"I started a clothing line while on bedrest."
—Meg Remien, 31, San Francisco, CA
"In 2014 I broke my spine in a skiing accident. Actually, I broke about 10 bones—six of them
were in my back. I could not function on my own for several months and relied on my family
and husband to do everything for me. Being in that condition was humbling, but it was also
very boring. Binge-watching all kinds of shows and movies eventually became monotonous.
That's when I started to design. After my accident, I was in bed for most hours of the day. My
pajamas and sleepwear became uncomfortable. I noticed I didn't like the waistband on one or
the fabric of another and I began researching where I could find exactly what I was looking
for. Then I realized it didn't exist. I also started researching eco-friendly fashion. That's how
my clothing company, Raven & Crow, came to be. I never thought this would turn into a
business, but every time I explained my concept to someone new they said, 'That sounds
amazing. Let me know when you have some and I'll buy it.' So, with a simple design and
bamboo fabric that I adored, I had my first pair cut and sewn. The rest is history."

7. What problem did the writer experience when starting to design?

A. She was in bed.
B. She felt depressed.
C. She broke her spine.

fashion?
A. She would not have bought her own pajamas.
B. She would not have stayed in bed for a long time.
C. She would not have made sleepwear while bed-rest.
D. She would not have founded her clothing company.
E. She would not have been supported by her family.

9. Meg could do nothing for several months. …, she needed her family and husband’s help.

Taj Mahal, an epitome of love, is actually a mausoleum. It is located in Agra, the state of Uttar
Pradesh, approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) from Delhi. It's part of India's popular Golden
Triangle Tourist Circuit.
Taj Mahal represents the finest architectural and artistic achievement. The mausoleum was
constructed of pure white marble. The white marble is inlaid with semiprecious stones (including
jade, crystal, lapis lazuli, amethyst and turquoise) that form the intricate designs. Its central dome
reaches a height of 240 feet (73 meters). The dome is surrounded by four smaller domes. Four
slender towers, or minarets, stand at the corners. Inside the mausoleum, an octagonal marble chamber
adorned with carvings and semiprecious stones house the false tomb of Mumtaz Mahal. Her actual
remains lie below, at garden level.
Taj Mahal shows shades of magnificent beauty at different time during the day. At dawn when
the first rays of the sun hits the dome of this epic monument, it radiates like a heavenly pinkish
palace. At daytime, when the sky is bright and clear, the Taj looks milky white. At a moonlit night
when the full moon rays fall on the glistening white marble, the cool moon rays reflect back from the
white marble and give the Taj Mahal a tinge of blue color. It’s simply breathtaking!
The Taj Mahal can be visited on a day trip from Delhi. Agra is well connected by rail. The
main railway station is Agra Cantt. High speed Shatabdi Express services operate from Delhi,
Varanasi, and cities in Rajasthan. Alternatively you can fly from major Indian cities, or take a tour
from Delhi.

Going out in the burning sun without sensible protection is extremely dangerous. There are many
reasons why you should stay safe from the burning sun. Some of them are you can get sunburnt,
you can get skin cancers, and you can damage your eyesight.
The first reason is that you can get extremely sunburn. Sunburn is the skin’s reaction to the
ultraviolet radiation from the sun. You can see sunlight and feel heat (infrared radiation), but you
can’t see or feel ultraviolet radiation. It can damage your skin even on cool, cloudy days.
The second reason is that you can get horrible skin cancers because of damaging light rays. In
Australia, many people die from skin cancer because they do not stay safe in the burning sun.
Although this can be cured, the prevention of getting burnt is a better solution than curing this skin
cancer.
Another reason is that too much time out in bright sunlight can damage your eyesight. The
intense ultraviolet rays of the sun damage sensitive cells in the eyes, eventually affecting vision.
Experts say it is difficult to isolate the exact amount of damage that ultraviolet radiation imposes
on the eye over a long period. However, a number of studies have shown that the effects build up
and may increase the chance of developing eye problems later in life. These may include cataracts,
a clouding of the lens of the eye.
Based on all the reasons above, we know that going out in the burning sun without sensible
protection can be very dangerous. So, we need to wear a proper shirt, and hat and sun glasses to
protect our skin, head and eyes.

Bees are flying insects that fly all over the world. There are twelve thousand different
species of bees, but only about two thousands of these occur in North America.
Bees can be divided into two groups according to their living styles. Solitary bees live
alone. On the other hand, social bees, like ants, live in groups. Only about six hundred species
are of this social category.
Social bees are interesting because in their “society” there are different classes of bees. Each
class performs a different task. Queen bees lay eggs. Workers, underdeveloped females, work in
then hive but never reproduce. Males do not work; their only task is to mate with the queen.
Solitary bees occur as males and females. Every female makes a nest in the ground where
she will lay her eggs. The nest consists of many cells. After an egg is laid and put in a cell, the
female also adds some pollen and honey for food. Then she seals the cell. The females then go
elsewhere to build a new nest or die. When the eggs hatch, the larvae will feed on the pollen and
honey which the female left for them.
25. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To describe particular bees.
B. To convince that bees are insects.
C. To tell the readers how bees survive.
D. To inform general description of bees.
E. To compare between two kinds of bees.

26. How do we compare between paragraphs 2 and 4?

D. Paragraph 2 is about classification of bees; paragraph 4 is gender of bees.
E. Paragraph 2 is about types of bees; paragraph 4 is about gender of solitary bees.

I am not a stranger to the dark
Hide away, they say
'Cause we don't want your broken parts
I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars
Run away, they say
No one'll love you as you are
But I won't let them break me down to dust
I know that there's a place for us
For we are glorious
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Another round of bullets hits my skin
Well, fire away 'cause today, I won't let the shame sink in
We are bursting through the barricades

With over 11 million immigrants in the United States illegally, the issue of illegal immigration
continues to divide Americans.
Some people say that illegal immigration benefits the US economy through additional tax
revenue, expansion of the low-cost labor pool, and increased money in circulation. They contend
that immigrants bring good values, have motivations consistent with the American dream, perform
jobs that Americans won’t take, and that opposition to immigration stems from racism.
Opponents of illegal immigration say that people who break the law by crossing the US border
without proper documentation or by overstaying their visas should be deported and not rewarded
with a path to citizenship and access to social services. They argue that people in the country
illegally are criminals and social and economic burdens to law-abiding, tax-paying Americans.
As a country relying on law supremacy, any people are allowed to immigrate to this country.
However, these people must perform in accordance with the laws that we have agreed upon.
38. What is the author’s intent to write the text?
A. To expose the danger of illegal immigration.
B. To report the benefits of illegal immigration.
C. To tell the US’s policy on illegal immigration.

39. How can we compare the second and the third paragraphs?
A. Both paragraphs notify how illegal immigration occurs.
B. Both paragraphs tell the opponents of illegal immigration.
C. Both paragraphs tell the favorable perspective on illegal immigration.
D. Unlike the second paragraph, the third paragraph shows the negative view on illegal
immigration.
E. Different from the third paragraph, the second paragraph informs the unfavorable
insight on illegal immigration.

40. We can conclude that the writer objects to illegal immigration because …
A. It leads to unfairness.
B. It provokes jealousy.
C. US population is too high.
D. Any acts must be done legally.
E. It contradicts to US constitution.
