Guide Questions:
1. The social concerns which are illustrated in the poem are social anxiety,
depression, grief, regret, poverty, and homelessness.
2. The narrator feels that Richard Cory is a man of happiness and contentment
as it is seen through his physical appearance that he has everything in life. He
was a gentleman from sole to crown, clean favored and imperially slim and he
was rich yes richer than a king, and admirably schooled in every grace
3. Richard Cory’s external appearance and mannerisms make him very much
different from the people down town. The townspeople belong to the working
class.

4. No. They didn't know him well enough. All of their interactions with Richard
Cory were superficial and clouded by their awareness of his wealth.
5. It is iron ic that the townspeople envied Richard Cory because no one had
ever imagined that Richard Cory was suffering from something unfavorable
that led him to kill himself.
6. Richard Cory might have been living alone all throughout his life. He is
mentally and psychologically disturbed.
7. If I were Richard Cory, I have to be brave enough to face any trials in life. I
have to remember that there is always a rainbow after a rain.

Reflection:

I remember having a breakdown and crying over unfinished school works. I

can still reminisce how pressured I am and how frustrated to pass my tasks on
time. That moment when my mother told me to “fix yourself”. On that very second
realization hit me, we don’t need to please other people with our high grades,
because grades aren’t a reflection of intelligence or ability. They are a reflection
of hard work. Society is so cruel to the point that we’re forcing ourselves to be fit
on their standards. Always remember, don’t be hard to yourself. Always do what
makes you happy and stand what you believe in even means standing alone. At
the end of the day, always choose yourself.
Reaction to Assertion:

 Parents should strictly monitor their teenage sons and daughters’

whereabouts when they go out.

1. I totally agree! Research shows that teens whose parents use effective

monitoring practices are less likely to make poor decisions, such as having
sex at an early age, smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, being physically
aggressive, or skipping school. Clear communication about your
expectations is especially important.
2. I beg to differ. As your child gets older, they need more privacy and
personal space. Trust goes both ways. Children needs to trust that you
respect their right to have privacy and a say in decisions about their life.
3. I believe that parents should monitor their teenage sons and daughters’
and trust them at the same time.
4. Haven’t you had enough about that boring issue? Can we please talk
about Russia instead?

 Misinformation and disinformation are rampant in social media.

1. Absolutely. In today’s media systems people may be more likely to

encounter false and misleading information on a daily basis. The difference
between trustworthy and untrustworthy news on public forums has become
a frequently discussed and occasionally volatile topic over the last few
years.
2. I don't think so.  Social media has become a place where people can learn
about all sorts of things. The advantage of social media is that users can
quickly obtain different kinds of information through their contacts.
3. Don’t ask me, I’m not the expert on that matter.
4. Can we talk about politics instead? You’re talking about it over and over
again.
