Individual?
Media and Information Literate Individual
● Media and Information Literate Individual is about the people’s capability to
think critically in using the information that he/she have read in different media
or using technologies.
● A Media and Information Literate Individual is aware of their choices
especially between knowing true and fake information like what see today
where fake informations are frequent.
● It is said about Media and Information Literacy in coe.int or The Council of
Europe that it “provides the backbone to understanding media and the role of
media in our society.”
Social Media
● We all know that Social Media nowadays is one of the most used tool to
communicate, boost one's confidence and especially with sharing our thoughts
and ideas. There are lots of advantages in using Social Media, but there are also
disadvantages. And one of this disadvantages is related to Media And
Information Literate Individual, sometimes we're being careless about what we
are saying and posting in social media that can usually lead us into trouble.
● Wherein we should always check our words correctly and think of its meaning
and what are the possibly emotions that others may feel about your post. And
we always have to be careful in using this tool because, what you are showing
to others reflect to your attitude.

● It is also connected in terms of providing informations, most especially with
social media platforms, because it can lead us to danger and fight if the
information that we gathered is not true and it is just base on someone’s
opinion.
Media Literate Individual
Media literacy allows you to identify the influence and meaning behind media messages,
whether you’re involved in media production or media consumption. Being literate in Media
allows you to comprehend and critique diverse content out there in the world. Digital literacy is
a subcategory of media literacy that specifically applies to digital media.

while viewing a piece of media, you can ask yourself…

2. Why was this created?
3. Is it credible?
4. Is it biased?

● Social media was deemed a waste of time and money. There was an
insufficient flow of information to the majority people.
● Politicians sought to use traditional means of mainstream media such as
television, newspapers and radios yet most of their constituents had moved
on to newer technologies.

1. A Limitless Supply Of Knowledge

Children having instant access to the web via school and home computers, as well as tablet devices and
smartphones, means they can find out anything they ever wanted to know via just a few clicks of a button. This
is particularly useful for when they are doing homework and need to research a particular topic

2. More Opportunities for Collaboration

Technology allows people to stay in touch wherever they are, at any time of the day. Most applications like
Canva, Google Slides, etc. allows students to interact with each other, both inside and outside of class.

3. Greater Ability To Track Progress

For example, many LMSs available can self-mark tests for you – and some will provide graphs and charts to
show how well a student is doing over the course of a year. Having automatically-marked tests means less work
for the teacher, and easily accessible reports means students’ needs can be catered for more accurately.

Greater Political Participation?
Political participation - focuses more on the people who are joining in discussing controversial
issues when it comes to politics and government services. Also, it is a Voluntary activities
initiated by the society , either directly or by encouraging the choices of politicians.

● Media and information is used as a way for communication channel for political parties to
share some information or influence beliefs, inform the public about the upcoming events
and elections through their trusted websites. Also, media can be one of your sources in
finding relevant and factual information.
● Politicians uses the media platforms to utilize their stands. Also, for their campaign, share
their messages, ideas and projects to the public.
How can we utilize Media and Information to
Improve Quality of Life?
● Media can educate people small civic things, like keep roads clean, avoid
increasing pollution, mutual good behavior, healthy halal eating, avoid
wasting food and water, modest dress, useful skills, do-it-by yourself
things, cost cutting ideas, home farm vegetables and fruits, information
about common diseases.
How can we utilize Media and Information in
terms of Better Economy?
● The media increases the efficiency of the economy by providing more and
better information to decision-makers and fostering stability.
● Growth in the media industry can reduce political risk and increase
stability in countries where political risk is high.
How can we utilize Media and Information to
Improve Learning?
● To increase interest on the knowledge of the material being taught,
existing media resources can be incorporated into lectures. This traditional
method is teacher-centered, and with the information shoved down the
learner's throat. The instructor can facilitate the transfer of expert
knowledge to new students by using media.
