Abstract:
Our ever increasing use of technological devices has substantially increased our
electronic waste or e-waste. That has created a global problem affecting the environment. At the
same time, that problem can present a business opportunity. Our research looks into the average
consumer behavior in Saudi when it comes to e-waste and whether there could be a market for
managing e-waste.
Introduction:
E-waste and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) represent a major global
environmental issue because of its hazardous impact on humans (Abdilbasir etal 2018).
Humans produce more e-waste everyday and that is happening at an increasing rate globally; the
amount of e-waste produced around the world in 2016 is estimated to have reached 44.7 million
metric tons, where the amount of it in 2021 reached 52.2 million metric tons or probably even
.more. That is an average of 1.5 mmt per year
To put things into perspective, a million tons is equal to 1000 kg and a mmt is a million of that.
Consequently, e-waste became the biggest issue of concern to the international communities.
))Kuehr, 2015
Supporting this phenomena, is the existence of a functional lifetime of each (EEE) meaning
every electronic product has to reach obsolescence after a certain period of time. (Borthakurand
and Govind 2018)
Business Opportunity:
The thing about E-Waste is it contains valuable materials and can hold high value once
recycled. Sustaining the component of e-waste is a threat to the environment, but on the other
hand, it also contains amounts of rare elements and precious metals in addition to base metal
which all hold various economic values. (Khayyam Nekouei et.al.2014).
So, a useful method for this problem is recycling these things but recycling of the wastes
causes pollution which is caused by this flow of this toxic stream of waste. Furthermore, total e –
waste could be controlled by factors such as the high obsolescence rate of different electronic
products, the volume of e – waste collected or recycled (Andrade et al 2019) .
Furthermore, total e – waste could be controlled by factors such as the high obsolescence rate of

Also, the community producers and government are the main actors having responsibility of e-
waste management (Pandebesis et al 2019 ).
it's true, It is critical to recognize the various stakeholders in both the E-waste and recycling
industries. For its successful management, it requires a generating and management chain
mentation. (Borthakur 2015) A coordinated effort with active participation of various
stakeholders at all levels could aid in the establishment of environmentally acceptable
management procedures.
E-waste recycling is a source of valuable and precious resources such as palladium, copper, iron,
gold, platinum, and silver, the majority of which are recyclable and recoverable Lundyren 2012).
Also, recycling can protect lives from the harm metals like lead and mercury and harmful gases.
E- waste are different and complicated, it contains more than 1000 substances. In fact, large
amounts of e-waste are shipped to poor and middle-income countries, causing irregularities in
item functionality (Modak 2011) ..
We can say many customers refuse to contribute in recycling activities and that makes great
barriers to wards recycling process. From the solutions for this problem is green which is method
for manufacturing that reduces waste and promotes recycling of materials to reduce their impact
on the environment. E-waste disposal is a complicated process. as a result of its formation.
Discarding is a common method.Landfilling and incineration, for example, have a negative
impact.the environmental impact. The researches are implementing world wide to deal with this
.problem among all levels
:Objective
The goal of this research was to determine the scope of the issues related with improper e-waste
recycling techniques.
Methods:
This was a narrative review that focused on where e-waste is generated, recycled, the range of
negative environmental exposures, adverse health repercussions, and regulatory frameworks
designed to safeguard vulnerable people from improper e-waste recycling techniques.
E-waste Questionnaire:
A questionnaire has been made about E-waste. It consisted of 27 questions about the topic and 66
people participated in the questionnaire, 74.2% of the participants were males and 25.8%
females. Moreover, most participants were between 21 and 25 years of age (35 participants)
while the lowest percentage goes to the 31-35 years old category equal to two participants only.
Also, 71.2% of people participating in the survey were in the University or Government sector
while 28.8% were in the private sector. Finally, most of the survey participants were Bachelor
Degree holders. In following we will discuss some of the most important question in the
questionnaire and share the results:
The number of their mobile devices is that 50% have two mobile devices, while 37.9% have only one device, while 12.1% own only one device.
When we asked our readers of our survey how often they replaced their portable electronic devices, we found that 34% do not replace their
devices during the year, while 31% replace their devices three times a year, and 27% replace their devices once, during the year, only 8%
dispose of them every two years, 10% dispose of their devices every year.
43% of them get rid of their devices due to the end of their useful life, while 28% get rid of them due to breakage, and 12% because their
30.8% own a portable electronic trash can near their home, 16.9% own one near another place, while 7.7% have one near their workplace.
“Recycling e-waste makes me feel satisfied”
47% answered that they are completely satisfied with recycling electronic waste, 18.2% are satisfied, 27.3% are not satisfied with anything in
39.4% of people disagreed that local media encourages to participate in recycling E-waste while 15.2% of people were

E-waste summary
E-waste is one of the quickest developing waste streams on the planet as far as
volume and its natural effect in the world. The presence of valuable metals in the
e-squander stream gives a significant financial advantage to reusing ventures
however because of the presence of unsafe synthetic substances, a legitimate
reusing strategy is needed preceding the removal of the e-squander. This paper
presents an outline of the insights on worldwide e-squander age and the deals of
new electrical gear and hardware overall. The aggregate sum of e-squander
delivered has arrived at roughly 41 million tons in 2014 and expanding at a pace of
3–5% consistently. A connection between's e-squander created, GDP and populace
of the nation has likewise been investigated that proposed that the GDP of any
nation has an immediate relationship with the measure of e-squander delivered by
that country. The number of inhabitants in the nation doesn't have a huge effect.
The paper likewise depicts the significance and advantages of reusing are stressed
while introducing the strategies at present utilized by the reusing offices. The least
demanding approach to tackle the e-waste emergency is to deliver less e-waste. I
know, more difficult than one might expect. Organizations are continually carrying
out new items—like Apple, for example, with its iPhone. More current items look
and capacity better than their archetypes, however curiosity includes some
significant pitfalls. Rather than purchasing that ostentatious new device, stick to
what in particular you have. Likewise, by dealing with your hardware you can
guarantee that they last more.
At the point when you don't need to supplant them as frequently, you wind up
saving money Instead of throwing out that old TV or gaming console, consider
regifting, selling, or giving it away. You could likewise clutch it. Who knows, it
may wind up being worth something sometime in the future. Take a gander at the
Original Apple 1. It's sold at closeout for upwards of $905,000.People regularly
toss out and supplant broken hardware as opposed to getting them fixed. Valid,
fixes can be costly, yet for the individuals who aren't anxious about a DIY project,
it's a modest fix. Online assets like iFixit, a site that flaunts free fix guides for
everything, give dependable data that will assist you with getting your tech back
good to go. Continuously make sure to be protected, though. As a final hotel, you
can generally reuse your e-waste r—simply ensure you're doing it accurately!
Numerous people group have e-waste reusing occasions and drop-off terminals
that handle these materials. On the off chance that your city is right now an
individual from our organization, download the Recycle Coach application to
discover how. Associations like TerraCycle acknowledge e-waste in the U.S.
what's more, Canada. So do a few fabricates and retailers, similar to Apple and
Best Buy.
