Name: Rheo Z. Sabanal Date: 11/28/2022

Test I. Essay. Answer accordingly.

Set A. Limit your answers in 5-8 sentences only.
1. What can be the impact of information age to society?
With new technologies, information can be accessed any time anywhere without requiring to
be physically in a classroom with a teacher and a physical book. Internet and search engine
help learners to search for content and new information over the internet. Online classrooms
are the norm these days by use of video conferencing platforms that are available. On the
other hand, since information is simple to get online learners can copy and paste that
knowledge without even acknowledging the source of data. Self-pacing learning that is
characterized by current age requires a highly motivated individual to learn since there is no
teacher to push the student.
2. In what way does information age and social media influence human lives?
There are several factors that influence the fast development and adoption of innovations.
As world population grows, so does the number of Internet users across the globe.
Furthermore, devices are getting more powerful, as smartphones today are more powerful
than some laptops 5 years ago. Lastly, software applications have been increasing in
complexity in terms of capabilities, but also decreasing in complexity of use. All these lead to
some interesting results — for one, we spend more and more time online.
3. Trace the development of the information age from the introduction of Guttenberg’s
press up to the era of social media.
The first era was the oral tradition. People used the kind, sound, and light, or simple
symbols and graphics to convey information. The second era is the age of literacy. This
period can be further divided into three parts which consist of, pictograms, phonetic
alphabet, and typography, which the last one is the printing press. The third communication
era is the electronic communications that were enabled by the electric flow of information. It
was a period from the first use of the telegraph in 1844 to the present. The printing press
was definitely revolutionary. Although many argued that printing press and the boom of
newspaper development is the product of the society needs during the multiple revolutions,
it was unarguable that printing press played a key role in enabling revolutions to happen.
4. What could be the adverse effects of resource depletion on society? What could be the
measures to mitigate them?
- Climate change
- Oil and mineral depletion
- Instability in the ecosystem
- Scarcity of drinking water
Our natural resources are the soul of our earth, and we all depended on them directly or
indirectly. Therefore, it’s our responsibility to take control measures and find the right
solution for the depletion of all natural resources. As the most intelligent creature of the
universe, let’s take a vow to spread awareness for protecting our natural resources. In that
way, it will remain for longer.

5. What is biodiversity? What is its importance as a source of different resources?

Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life you'll find in one area—the variety of animals,
plants, fungi, and even microorganisms like bacteria that make up our natural world.
Every material in our culture ultimately comes from natural resources. For example,
Coal, Oil, Soil, Water, Land, Minerals, Forests and Timber, and Air we breathe. The role
natural resources has on earth is imperative indeed. That is why it’s so important for us
to all have some accountability and why we need to protect and respect our
environment.

Set B. Limit your answers in 10-15 sentences only.

6. Explain the given phrases:
a. Facebook should be held accountable for the spread of “fake news”.
Part of the problem is that a handful of large technology companies have become small
oligopolies in connectivity and information; they are reaping incredible profits but forsaking the
responsibilities that come with the power they have gained. Facebook, for example, has
become a media company with more power and influence than The Washington Post and the
New York Times. More than 65 percent of its users get their news through its platform. Yet it
claims not to be a publisher and to not have responsibility for what appears on its platform or
done with its marketing data. Though it is unlikely that Facebook will resolve this issue, the fact
of matter remains that the platform being used to provide information is the one who delivers
fake news. Though the fault goes to the one posting the fake news, it is also the responsibility of
the social media not to be discreet about it and apologize for they are being misrepresented by
people. But in hindsight, Facebook have acknowledged the problem and pledged to do
something about it. In a blog post, Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg detailed plans to
build a safe, informed, civically engaged and inclusive community that fulfils the benevolent
promise of social media. But he says that Facebook can't possibly review the billions of billions
of posts that are made on its platform every day and solving the problem will require artificial
intelligence - which is "technically difficult" and will take years of research and development.

b. Using social media platforms is a pre-requisite to a person’s meaningful engagement

in the world

Social media platforms are ideal for people to engage with each other, and businesses are able
to engage with their target audiences and participate in their online community. The Global Web
Index has even found that 30% of a business’ online time is now allocated to social media
interactions. It’s important to keep in mind that each social media platform sees different types
of engagement. For instance, LinkedIn is great for professional connections and talking about
industry matters. Whereas Facebook is ideal for targeting a mass number of consumers and
can spark more informal discussions.
Engagement is more than just comments and likes though. There are plenty of ways that
communicating and engaging with your audience on social media can benefit your business—
no matter its size. First and foremost is creating brand awareness. Whether it’s your business or
your audience, the more your content is interacted with, the more it spreads around the platform
and helps consumers learn and recognize you. Insightful interactions can even help position
your brand as an industry leader and separate you from the competition. Along with awareness,
consistent interaction with your audience is great for your public image. This can be answering a
question in a comment, sharing a customer’s experience, responding to a negative or positive
review, or showing that you are listening to what is being said to and about your company. In
fact, 21% of consumers are more likely to support and buy from businesses that can be reached
through social media, creating a true relationship between customer and company.
