Our daily lives have been revolutionized by the usage of technology in an increasingly digital
environment. Alongside, is the presence of our digital carbon footprint which is the CO2 emissions
resulting from the production, use, and data transfer of digital devices and infrastructure.
According to an article, “Why your internet habits are not as clean as you think,” our digital carbon
footprint affects our environment as the internet emits 1.6 billion annual tons of greenhouse gas
emissions. This just shows how every single click is energy-hungry and has an impact that we do not
see, but that, indeed, we should not ignore anymore. Thus, we should not neglect to adopt sustainable
digital practices as this Information Age is inevitable, rapidly changing, and will continue to live within
us.
Technological advancements can affect the environment in terms of pollution and emission due to the
electricity they consume. It also affects our natural resources, if everything we need is inside of one
technology, what will be the use of our natural resources? Like the paper we need is slowly turning
into digital. How much more for the future information age? Technology is teaching a person to just
do everything conveniently yourself with the help of technology.
Good question. I believe it has its pros and cons. social media are simply a tool to communicate and
share ideas or opinions. The question is more acceptable phrased as whether or not humanity has
used it to greater benefit or cause harm.
The Internet is an instrument created to make communication possible at an increasing large rate.
Social media has just highlighted the opinions of others that were already there. People have already
had a majority of the opinions they post online and take a little corrosion to convince them to tell
something they already had within the back of their mind.
You can see the different opinions based on where an individual lives because it's moulded by the
environment that surrounds them. The best positive benefit I see is visibility. We may not like what
we see under the microscope but using observations made using that tool we've made great
scientific strides.
Social media makes it easier to see the problems within our society, and in doing so it becomes that
much easier to better it. Aside from that, increased connectivity/planning/information sharing with
those I care about, it's a convenient supplement to real-life socialization.
Last February 2019, a measles outbreak was declared in several areas in the Philippines. Some
linked this outbreak with the decreasing number of children vaccinated, as a consequence of
public mistrust on the ethical practice and safety concerning vaccines brought by the Dengvaxia
controversy in 2017.
With the above case in mind, write your opinion on what is the role and responsibility of science
and technology (or sciences and technology) to society.
In this day and age, science and technology have made life easier for humans, making us feel more at
ease and allowing us to live a more modernized style of life. But as we experience living in this
pandemic, science has lost the trust of the public through researchers’ painful missteps and slowed
the development of the vaccines, these results for the public to believe in hearsays and generate their
logic.
According to a Pew Research Center poll conducted in September 2020, Americans were evenly
divided on whether they would obtain a COVID-19 vaccination if one were available now. The science
of vaccine development will fail if people are not willing to believe it sufficiently to become vaccinated.
Therefore, scientists and society must work together to ensure that this time of uncertainty and
upheaval leads to a new era of solutions that enrich the lives and well-being of us all.
Scientist is important in a society because they are the ones who research as they use the scientific
method to make a community work. Meanwhile, a technologist is helpful to society like from our
experience of the outbreak where we are limited to do something, their works helped us to continue
life, continue living.
