CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Almost all people around the world have known the social media. Although social media or the SNS
are one of the most used communication methods in today’s world, we can also use this to site a specific
information that we need which is pretty useful. The findings highlights the Facebook which is used for
communication, sharing personal status, news & announcements, and entertainments. In addition, if we
consider this as the case for the teenagers nowadays which will focus specifically on students, their profile
photo is alone and students we’re aware that swearing is considered a form of misconduct, which is a good
sign. The study also indicate that students we’re aware of protecting their social identity as their Facebook
shares are not public at all. Furthermore, they respect privacy as they do not use their friend’s Facebook
account. This study highlights that the students reflect their mood on social media which creates a chance for
consultancy. Good Facebook comments increases students confidence. Students know how to control their
privacy.
By using the social media, we can communicate and share our lives to all the people around the
globe. The most common social site that we can use to communicate is definitely the Facebook. Facebook
will work at any use of technological devices. It has an application which you can easily download, there’s
also a website of it and you can just add a dot com (.com) to open the web. Also, you can open the app and
do many tasks anywhere you want. You can also open it when you’re not using a Wi-Fi or internet
connection cause you can open when you’re just using a mobile/cellular data on your phone. We all admit it
that Facebook is often at the center of our days. We check it on our phones at home. We’re all guilty here
2
that we’re always excited to check our account after a few hours we opened it to check who commented,
reacted, and share our photos. We’re too excited to reply at them and have a good conversation together.
In addition for the Facebook, where user can finally share photographs, personal news, celebrity
issues, post links or other interesting content of the web, live chats, video chats and even mostly on days, it
can also use as the one tool for communication. Teachers can post a reminders for their students, give
assignments, and students can also post their work of their tasks in here easily by uploading a certain
documents (docs., pdf., ppt., etc.). This will be an easy way to do so. But also, in Facebook which can easily
shared only among the selected group, friends or family or even a single person, research has shown that
people, mostly students who use this frequently have increased levels of negative emotions such as posting a
double meaning jokes, funny memes just to find pleasure and entertainment. Pey did a certain reckless thing,
a teenager might say, “Everyone else was doing it and I don’t want to be left out”. The research has shown
that the average Facebook account has over 300 friends attached to the account. In a few people in a social
circle can influence the behavior of a person, imagine what it feels like to have over 300 people pressuring
you to keep up with the crowds. This is an example of the bandwagon effect, which can people do or believe
something simply based on the number of other people who appear to do or something. But something even
darker can cone from the bandwagon effect. Online public shaming, online bullying which is happening right
now, they make fun of someone mostly known people like celebrity, political person, vloggers, and many
more, make memes, and comes by worst threats has been made by someone. This has shown to be highly
correlated not only with increased feelings of isolation but even higher rates of psychological mood disorders
like anxiety and depression for some students who experienced it.
But there’s a positive relationship between confidence, social media participation and social media related
behaviors will also assed with regard in using Facebook. Observing the behaviors of high school student. The
research also indicates that students we’re aware of protecting their social identity as their Facebook shares
3
are not public. Students reflect their mood on social media in which it creates a chance for consultancy.
Social networking sites makes it appear that large numbers of people believe in certain ideas because we
assume that if a person shares a thought correspond on social media, they implicitly giving their support to
that idea. Which so much elaborate going on in the vast social media crowd. It is not surprising that feelings
of isolation came out of prolonged usage of this form of interaction. Although social media is sought to be a
huge distraction for high school students, it also helps their learning. Social media opens a whole new
technological world for students, however students choose to adapt to the new world is the ultimate decider
The research will mainly focus on the effects of using Facebook to the behavior shown of the junior
high school students. And also, the research will focuses from the following questions.
1. What are the major effects of uncontrollable usage of Facebook towards the behavior of junior
2. What are the negative effects of this on their psychological mood and status?
3. How this case affect their personality and on how they used to communicate with the others?
C. Theoretical Support
This chapter discusses the choices regarding the theoretical framework used to address the
research questions. First several frameworks are reviewed in terms of their respond and adequacy for
the research questions. Namely the support coming from Y.C.J Wu, Emad Abu-Shanab, and Acevedo
M., who supoorts the concept and some theories of the study.

According to emad Abu-Shanab (April 2015) Social networks are becoming an integral part of
people's lives. Students are spending much time on social media and are considered the largest category that
uses such application. This study tries to explore the influence of social media use, and especially Facebook,
on high school students' performance. The study used the GPA of students in four courses and their responses
regarding the use of social media. Statistical analysis is used to infer this relationship and its implications.
Results indicated a support of this study aim and the relationship between the different dimensions of
Facebook influence on students with respect to the time spent on the Internet and Facebook specifically.
In a study of M. Acevedo (2017), Prior research has shown that the use of social media may detract
from face-to-face relationships, reduce investment in meaningful activities, increase sedentary behavior by
encouraging more screen time, lead to internet addiction, and erode self-esteem through unfavorable social
comparison. Self-comparison can be a strong influence on human behavior, and because people tend to
display the most positive aspects of their lives on social media, it is possible for an individual to believe that
their own life compares negatively to what they see presented by others. But some skeptics have wondered if
perhaps people with lower well-being are more likely to use social media, rather than social media causing
5
lower well-being. Moreover, other studies have found that social media use has a positive impact on
well-being through increased social support and reinforcement of real world relationships.
The research of “Effect of Using Facebook Towards the Behaviorsof Students” is to know what are the
behaviors of a students when they using Facebook. There’s a positive and negative relationship
between confidence on social media participation and social media related behaviors assed with
regard on using Facebook. By observing the behaviors of a high school student. The research also
indicates that students we’re aware of protecting their social identity as their Facebook are not public.

CHAPTER THREE
METHODOLOGY
Research Method
The study of this to know the effects of Facebook towards the behavior of the selected junior high
school students of Francisco E. Barzaga Integrated high school. This study is only applicable to grades 7
to10. This research will use qualitative research. According to several prominent qualitative scholars
(Creswell 2002; Pope & Mays 1995; Denzin & Lincoln, 1994) Qualitative Research is intended to deeply
explore, understand and interpret social phenomena within its natural setting. In addition, the qualitative
research may consider as a non-numerical research which may use only such open-ended questions and
interviews.
In total, the current research about the effects of Facebook towards the behavior of the selected junior
high school is to interview and structured questionnaires. Interviews can be defined as a qualitative research
technique which involves “conducting intensive individual interviews with a small number of respondents to
explore their perspectives on a particular idea, program or situation.”Boyce, C. & Neale, P. (2006)
“Conducting in-depth Interviews: A Guide for Designing and Conducting In-Depth Interkviews”–
1917)Closed or Structured Questionnaires are a quantitative method of research method. It includes the low
level of involvement of the researcher and high number of respondents (the individuals who answer the
questions).
Participants
The researcher chose 20 participants for the interview. 3 questions as interview will be conducted per
participants and 3 interviews were collected from each selected junior high school students of Francisco E.
The participants may share their own ideas, perspective and personal experience in relation of using the
social media particularly the Facebook depending on the interview questionnaires given by the researcher.
Participant Characteristics
The interview procedures will be conducted from random male and female who are in the grade level
of 7 to 10 and with ages of 13 to 17 years old. The participants will be include who are those in “middle
class”, and in terms of gender identity the researcher chose not only the general male and female but with
participation of members of the LGBT (such gays, lesbians, bisexual) or even asexual.
Sample Selective
In order to cover more abstract aspects of the research, the author chose as a complementary method
structured interviews consisting of several questions, which were distributed among representatives of each
10
participant group. Purposive sampling in qualitative circles is also referred to as “non-probability” sampling.
It is called this due to the researcher applying their own criteria when defining their sample, so in layman
terms the researcher selects their own individuals as part of their study. For a more academic definition
Ritchie et al., (2003) defines this sampling approach as a strategy where “Members of a sample are chosen
Research Procedure
The researchers will be going room to room of the selective junior high students and ask for
permission to give only 3 item questions as a guide interview. The main question that will give are questions
of how much time do they spend on using Facebook or social media, How much do they spend on studying at
home, How much time do they spend time with there family, What are their favorite hangout on Facebook as
not only the rule of communicating with other, The time they spend on sleeping and the overall effect of
overusing the Facebook in their mental and behavioral experiences and on how this affect their life status.
This may take only in a 5-7 minutes long and the researchers will having a face-to-face interviews in

CHAPTER 5
Findings
As the findings has interpret that the 20 selected junior high school students that answers the 3 major
questions for the interview to know the experiences they had on using the social media particularly the
Facebook, the result that answers the question number one on how can they estimate the number of their
friendlist on Facebook. It shows that the selected participants has a higher amount of friends in 1000+ , many
of these students said that some of their friends in Facebook are not really familiar and they haven't meet
them personally.
For the question number two , the junior high school student that answers their favorite hangout on Facebook
has the majority of using not only in communicating in others but also use in some sort of entertainment.
Students has adopt the behaviour of being active in the sense of humor, and to share some entertaining things
like sharing memes, and funny videos. As the selected respondents who answers the final question on how
many hours does it take them on using their Mobile phone and also the hours they're online in Facebook
shows that they're more online at the final limit of 24 hours and the limit of using the Facebook at 10 hours.
Here it shows that students in junior high school has prone in using the Facebook as their past time and for
receiving the pleasure of entertainment.
Conclusion
As a result, Facebook which considered as the leading social media site for students, have also been
shown to have effect on various spheres of human behaviour. As the student resflect their mood on social
media in which it creates a chance for consultancy. The psychological mood of a person and how this can
31
help students on their studies. This study attempted to ascertain and record the experiences of twenty random
junior high school students on using the Facebook. The participants’ words in this study suggest that the
process can add emotional experience, behavior. The results of this study suggest that the topic of this
research is more in the junior high school students interests and facts for this times. The findings further
suggest that the dissolution experience was an important experience in the lives of the participants. Lastly,
the results indicate that the students are in the process of taking the world into digital generation in which can
take time to create something more in the future
Recommendation
The future researcher must choose the right citations that related to their topic. It is recomended that
must be more studies must be carried out. The researchers get information which is used as Review of
Related Literature which we focused to Wu, Y. J.,(WYJ) et a tell that the user of facebook tend to choose
profile pictures that want to make them look attractive, also Emad Abu-Shanab(EAS) tell that Social
Networks are becoming an integral part of people's lives, he also tell Students are spending much time on
social media, next is Lee, Ahn, and Kim (LAK) says that Extrovers use Facebook more often than Introverts.
And last is M, Acevedo (MA) says that social media may detract from face to face relationships. Future
research must explore more about the behavior of the students that uses facebook, lastly it might be good to
explore more about the real happenings on facebook.
