maintained by trained specialists. The owner and/or user must
ensure that the operating personnel have been suitable instructed.

The equipment has been subjected to a hazard analysis,

corresponding precautionary measures regarding the safety of
persons and domestic animals have been made. Nevertheless, it
is still possible that danger could arise as a result of incorrect
use, bad maintenance, material changes, etc. These dangers are
associated with:

Electricity
Mechanical dangers
Exposure to high intensity UV light

3.1 Electricity
The lightning flash and arrowhead symbol is to alert the user to
the presence of un-insulated "DANGEROUS VOLTAGE” within
the enclosure.

The equipment may only be opened if the mains supply is

isolated. The mains supply must not be restored as long as the
equipment is open. This applies to both the electrical control panel
and the reactor vessel.

ATTENTION:

Working on live equipment is forbidden.

3.2 Mechanical dangers

The reactor wiper system contains rotating parts and therefore the
wiper drive unit cover plates should only be removed by trained
personnel after electrically isolating the system.

The equipment contains glass which must be handled with care.

3.3 Exposure to high intensity UV light
The reactor contains UV emitting lamps and if exposed while
energised can cause serious eye and skin damage. Ensure that
the mains supply is isolated before opening any of the covers of
the reactor.

4.0 Installation guidance

4.1 Installing the UV System

The UV system control panel is designed to be bulkhead mounted

utilising the rear enclosure mounting brackets which incorporate
fixing holes.

The reactor vessel is designed to be mounted utilising the bracket

fitted to the end flanges of the vessel.

IMPORTANT:

The reactor control panel utilises air cooling. The following

guidelines must be adhered to when locating the unit.

• The reactor and control panel must not be located in a position

where the ambient air temperature exceeds 40ºC.
• The reactor and control panel must not be located adjacent to
other equipment that directly emit heat
• The reactor and control panel must not be located adjacent any
chemical equipment that is likely to emit fumes.
• The reactor should be located within the piping system in such
a manner as to ensure that sufficient clearance is available in a
horizontal direction to allow for lamp replacement and wiper
maintenance where fitted. See the relevant data information
included in this manual.
• The reactor must be positioned with the inlet & outlet flanged
pipe connections pointing in an upwards direction.
INFORMATION:

Do not install the reactor vertically or rotate it around its horizontal

axis. The direction of water flow through the vessel is not
important.
• It is recommended that the main piping incorporates a valved
bypass around the reactor as well as isolating valves for the
inlet and outlet connections thereby allowing the water flow to
be bypassed around the reactor during maintenance.

INFORMATION:
Failure to comply with any of the above criteria could effect the
operation and warranty of the unit and have an adverse effect on
the long term reliability and lifespan of the system.

O&M Manual - Page 10

Triogen

4.2 Mechanical Connection

The reactor vessel is supplied with BS4504 NP10 or ANSI 150RF

flanges for connection to the water piping system. The flange type
required should be specified at the time of order. Refer to section
2.2 for the relevant flange size.

Where the reactor is to be connected to uPVC pipework or similar,

it is recommended that 90 deg stainless steel elbows should be
fitted to the reactor inlet & outlet connections to stop UV light
penetration which could deteriate plasticised materials.

Isolating valves should be fitted in the piping to the inlet and outlet
of the reactor to allow isolation for general maintenance. These
should be fitted after the 90º elbows to avoid UV attack on the
valve seals.
INFORMATION:
Never attach valves directly to the inlet and outlet reactor
connections.

4.3 Electrical Connection

Main Supply

The mains power connection is made to the bottom of the main

interlock isolator fitted in the control panel.

IMPORTANT:

Make sure that the system has completed any auto wipe of the
quartz thimble and is in the parked mode before isolating the
power.

Reactor showing Wiper Motor Assy

• Remove the top plate.

• Visually inspect the wiper shaft at the point it passes
through the rear plate for any signs of water.
• If water is present it indicates that the shaft seal is
passing water and that it should be replaced.

To replace the shaft seal.

• Dismantle the reactor as described in section 7.3.

• Remove the four bolts holding the wiper motor enclosure
to the rear plate and lift free.

O&M Manual - Page 48

• Remove the drive hub from the end of the wiper shaft.
• Remove the circlip from the end of the wiper shaft (fitted
in front of the bearing) and remove the shaft from the
reactor open end.
• Remove the rear plate and fit new seal to plate and shaft
( the seal comes in two parts). Re-assemble in the
reverse sequence paying attention to the instructions in
section 7.3.
IMPORTANT:

Care should be taken when fitting the new seal as the carbon
surfaces are very brital and damage to these parts will affect the
integrity of the seal.
• Initiate a manual wipe and observe the correct function
of the wiper motor.

7.5 Replacing the Control Panel filter mat.

Depending on the environment where the control panel is

installed, the filter mat fitted to the inlet fan grills must be cleaned
or changed on a regular basis (at least at the same time as a
lamp change).

It is recommend that after commissioning that the filter mat is

checked on a monthly basis. There after, depending on the results
of these checks this could be reduced to between 3 to 6 months.

8.0 Fault finding

Fault finding work may only be carried out by maintenance

personnel who have been trained and authorised for this work by
the owner and/or user. The owner and/or user must ensure that
the maintenance personnel authorised to carry out this work are
familiar with the safety measures and regulations, and that they
also comply with them, in addition to having read and understood
the operating instructions.

WARNING:

During the following procedures it will be required to carry out

tests on live circuits. These checks should only be carried out by
suitably qualified engineers who fully understand the electrical
circuits and the voltages present.

8.1 Loss of all indications

This fault is evident when the green power ON indicator and the
display fail to illuminate or indicate. This can be caused by the
following:

Failure of the power supply.

Failure of one or more MCB’s.

For these check.

• The supply circuit breaker / fuses.

• Check the voltage at the inlet terminals of the control
panel isolator.
• Check that the control MCB(s) are in the ON position.
• Check the step down transformer that provides the 12V
ac to the control card.

If all of the above are found to be OK and the fault still excists
then the problem must be with the UVARAY control card and this
must be returned for repair or replaced.

O&M Manual - Page 50

Triogen

8.2 Fault indication – Lamp 1,2,3 or 4 RCD Trip

This fault is indicated by the text “Lamp “x” RCD Trip” flashing on
the fourth line of the main screen.

It indicates that.

• RCD/MCB 1,2,3, or 4 has tripped.

• The earth fault release has operated (6kW lamps only)

For these check.

• Using the electrical drawings visually inspect all the

components and cabling from MCB 1,2,3 or 4 to the UV
lamps for any signs of arcing or damage.
IMPORTANT:

Use a suitable resistance meter to measure continuity and

insulation resistance as required.

If the above check does not highlight a problem re-set the

MCB or earth fault release and re-start the system. If the
fault occurs again isolate the individual componets of the
circuit (starting at the UV lamp) until the faulty part is
identified.
INFORMATION:

The earth fault release is re-set be switching the power OFF and
back ON.

8.3 Fault indication – Lamp 1,2,3 or 4 High Current

This fault is indicated by the text “Lamp “x” High Current” flashing
on the fourth line of the main screen.

It indicates that.

• The UVARAY control card has registered higher than

normal current in the supply line to the ballasts.

For this check.

• The supply voltage is within tollerance and matches the

voltage on the panel rating plate.
• The UV lamps.

O&M Manual - Page 51

Triogen

• The ballast(s).
• The current transformer (CT).
INFORMATION:

When the system is ready to be operated again, re-set the fault

indication by pressing the right hand navigation key. Once the
fault indication has been cleared the system can be re-started.
IMPORTANT:

When the UV Lamp is re-started monitor the current as described

in section 6.11 to check that the current is within tolerance.

INFORMATION:

When the system is started there is a 3 minute delay before the

software checks the current to allow for the high currents that
occur normally during the start up phase.

8.4 Fault indication- Lamp 1,2,3 or 4 Low Current

This fault is indicated by the text “Lamp “x” Low Current” flashing
on the fourth line of the main screen.

It indicates that.

• The UVARAY control card has registered zero or

minimal current in the supply line to the ballasts.

For this check.

• The supply voltage is within tollerance and matches the
voltage on the panel rating plate.
• The UV lamps.
• The ballast(s).
• The ignition module (if the fault occurs after the start
switch is operated).
• The current transformer (CT).
IMPORTANT:

Check the Operating Values to confirm the current value being

measured.

O&M Manual - Page 52

Triogen

INFORMATION:

If the UV monitor is registering a normal reading it indicates that

the lamp must be operating and that the current reading is wrong.
In this case the current transformer should be checked first.

8.5 Fault indication- Panel Temp. High

This fault is indicated by the text “Panel Temp. High” flashing on

the fourth line of the main screen.

It indicates that.

• The UVARAY control card has registered a temperature

above the alarm point inside the control panel.

For this check.

• The temperature registered in the panel and the alarm
point.
• The vent grill filter mats.
• The operation of the cabinet ventilation fans.
• The plant room ambient temperature.
• For obstructions to the flow of air to and from the vent
grills.

INFORMATION:

When the system is ready to be operated again, re-set the fault

indication by pressing the right hand navigation key. Once the
fault indication has been cleared the system can be re-started.

8.6 Fault indication- Reactor Temp. High

This fault is indicated by the text “Reactor Temp. High” flashing on

the fourth line of the main screen.

It indicates that.

• The UVARAY control card has registered a temperature

above the alarm point at the reactor sensor point.

For this check.

• The temperature registered in the panel and the alarm
point.
• The water flow through the vessel.

O&M Manual - Page 53

Triogen

• The operation of the temperature sensor.

INFORMATION:

When disconnected, measure the resistance of the sensor. It

should be a low value. If it is high (>500Ω) change the sensor.

INFORMATION:

When the system is ready to be operated again, re-set the fault

indication by pressing the right hand navigation key. Once the
fault indication has been cleared the system can be re-started.
IMPORTANT:

The reactor temperature fault is to protect the system against

overheating in the event of low flow conditions. It is not a control
device and must not be used to replace the required interlock
between the system and the pool main circulating pumps.

8.7 Warning indication- Low UV Intensity (Optional)

This warning is indicated by the text “Low UV Intensity” flashing

on the fourth line of the main screen.

It indicates that.

• The UVARAY control card has registered a UV intensity

below 60% while the power of the UV Lamp is at full.

For this check.

• The reading of the UV and the sensor.
INFORMATION:

The UV sensor generates a 0 – 10V dc signal that is input to the

UVARAY control card. This signal can be measured to confirm the
sensors operation. Note, it is not uncommon for this voltage to be
less than 1V for full power operation.
• The sensor cable and connections.
• The sensor power supply unit.
• The sensor adaptor.
• The UV lamp quartz thimble (for contamination).
• The UV lamp quartz thimble has reached the end of its
rated life.

• If the UV lamp is at the end of its rated life.
• The sensor was properly calibrated at the last lamp
change.
• For a fault in the ballast(s) or control circuit causing the
system to operate at Low Power.

INFORMATION:

The UV thimble has a life of approx. 2 years. After this time the
solarisation that has occurred to the glass will reduce the UV light
passed into the water.

8.8 Warning indication- Lamp(s) Change Required

This warning is indicated by the text “Lamp Change Required”

flashing on the fourth line of the main screen.

It indicates that.

• The UVARAY control card has registered that the UV

Lamp is at the end of its rated life.

For this.
• Change the UV Lamp.
• Re-set the Lamp hours counter.
INFORMATION:

When this warning is given the Lamp hours shown in the Hours
Run screen should be at least 6000 hours.

INFORMATION:

Illumination of the Lamp Change Required warning means that

the level of UVc light emitted at a specific wavelength has
dropped below the level required to give the proper disinfection. It
does not mean that the lamp will fail to illuminate.
