DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATH 3

I. OBJECTIVES
- At the end of the lesson the learners should able to:
1. Understand what is probability.
2. Applying probability in real-life situations using the phases “sure to
happen”, “likely to happen”, “equally likely to happen”, “unlikely to
happen”, and “impossible to happen”.
3. Appreciate the importance of probability in our daily lives.

A. Content Standard
- The learners demonstrates understanding of bar graphs and outcomes of an
events using the terms sure, likely, equally likely, unlikely, and impossible to
happen.

B. Performance Standard
- The learners is able to create and interpret simple representations of data
(table and single bar graphs) and describes outcomes of familiar events using
the terms sure, likely, equally likely, unlikely, and impossible to happen.

C. Learning Competencies
- The learner tells whether an event is sure, likely, equally likely, unlikely, and
impossible to happen.

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
Everyone to please stand. (The pupils will stand)
May I request Kriza to please lead us a (Kriza will lead the prayer)
prayer.
Good morning class! Good morning, Ma’am it is nice to see
you!

Before we start, please arrange your (Pupils will follow)

chairs properly and pick up all pieces of
papers under your chairs.
Who are absent today?
Once I call your name just say “I am here”
I am here Ma’am.
Princess Uy?

(Pupils will follow)

Kindly pass your assignment in front of
you 1,2,3.
Yes Ma’am.
Are all assignments here?
B. Reviewing Past Lesson
Before we proceed to our new topic let’s
have a short recap.
Who among you remembered our last
lesson?
Bar Graphs Ma’am.
Anna
(Pupils will follow)
Very good! Let’s give Anna a
WONDERFUL clap.

What else?
The two types of bar graphs Ma’am.
Yes Mark?
(Pupils will follow)
Great job! Let’s give Mark an AMAZING
clap.

Now what are the two types of bar

graphs? Vertical and Horizontal Ma’am.
Yes Patricia? (Pupils will follow)
Awesome! Let’s give Patricia a VERY
GOOD clap.

C. Establishing a Purpose for the

Lesson
Before we proceed to our new topic, let’s
have a short activity.

PICK ME, CHOOSE ME!

Direction: I will group you in to 3
Groups. Each group will be given a
respective box. And each box has a
number of shapes inside. All you have to
do was to count a number of shapes that
has a large chance to be pick.

Are you ready? Yes Ma’am.

Group 1

(Pupils will follow)

Group 2

Group 3

Great job everyone!

From the activity you have done, what do
you think is our topic for today?

Chances Ma’am.
Yes James?
Awesome James!
(Pupils will raise their hands)
Other ideal. About probability Ma’am.
Yes Alex?
Exactly. Very good Alex!
D. Presenting examples or
instances of the new lesson
Today, we will discuss the probability.
At the end of our discussion, you should
be able to:
1. Understand what is probability;
2. Applying probability in real-life
situations using the phases “sure to
happen”, “likely to happen”, “equally
likely to happen”, “unlikely to happen”,
and “impossible to happen”; and
3. Appreciate the importance of
probability in our daily lives.
Yes, Ma’am.
Are you excited to learn?
Hooray! Choices Ma’am.

When you hear the word “probability”

what comes in to your mind?
Good job!
Chances Ma’am.

What else?
(Pupils will follow)
Absolutely, great job!
Let’s give both of them a 5 million clap.

For us to define probability, I have here

some pictures and materials. All you to do
was to tell me what do you think will
happen on the respective events.
Example: 1.
A pregnant mother.

What do you see on this picture? A baby boy.

Great! A baby girl.
What do you think mother’s baby will be?
The mother’s baby could be a baby boy or
baby girl. Here are no possibilities. It is
equally likely to happen that:
Mother is giving birth to a baby boy.
Mother is giving birth to a baby girl.

By some chances an event may be

described as likely or unlikely to
happen. Two events may be equally

likely to happen.

What can you see in front of me?

Awesome!
Example: 2.

I have here a jar with popsicle stick. If you

will pick a popsicle stick without looking:
It is likely that you will get a red popsicle
stick.
It is unlikely that you will get a black
popsicle stick.
Getting a green and yellow popsicle sticks
are equally likely to happen.

Some events are sure to happen, while It has different colors Ma’am.
other events are impossible to happen.
A numbers Ma’am.
What do you see on this wheel?
Great!
What else?
Awesome!

Example: 3.
2 3
1 2
2 3
2

Look at this wheel, if the wheel is spun:

It is sure to happen that the pointer will
land at number 2.
It is impossible to happen that the pointer
will land at number 1.
It tells how likely an event or events is
Based on those given examples, what is going to happen Ma’am.
probability? (Pupils will follow)

Yes Alex?
Exactly!
Let’s give Alex a 5 million clap.
Yes Ma’am.
When we say probability, it gives the
likelihood that a defined event will occur.

Did you understand class?

E. Developing Mastery (Leads to
Formative Assessment)
Go back to your respective groups. Each
group will be given a respective material.
All you have to do was to tell what will
happen on that event. And tell if it is
likely to happen, unlikely to happen,
equally likely to happen, sure to happen,
or impossible to happen. Choose one
representative from the group and discuss
your answer here in front.

If a coin is tossed, it is equally likely to

Group 1 (Tossing a Coin)
land a head or tail.
Material/s: coin

It is sure to happen that we picked color

Group 2 (Pick me Up)
red.
Material/s: cup and nips
It is impossible to happen that we picked
color blue.

It is sure to happen that we choose a

Group 3 (Choose Me)
triangle.
Material/s: box and shapes
It is equally to happen that we choose
circle and square.

Wonderful job everyone!

F. Finding Practical Application of
concepts and skills in daily living
Now, I want all of you to look at the sky.
What do you think the weather today? It is sunny day Ma’am.

Very good!
Do you think there is a chance that it will
It is impossible to happen Ma’am.
rain?
Great job everyone!
G. Making Generalization and
Abstraction about the Lesson
Now, let’s recall what we have discussed
today.
In your own understanding what is
probability?
It is a chance that an event or events will
Yes, Marian?
happen Ma’am.

Very good!

The event will really happen.

When we say an event is sure to happen
what does it mean?
Yes, Arvie?

Awesome!

When we say an event is likely to happen

what does it mean? There is a big chance that the event will
Yes, Daryl? happen Ma’am.
Great!

When we say an event is equally to

happen what does it mean?
Yes, Feva? The two events have equal chances of
happening.
Wonderful!

When we say an event is impossible to

happen what does it mean?
There is no chance that the event will
Yes, Kim?
happen.

Very good!
Great job everyone!
Give yourselves a 5 million clap. (Pupils will follow)
H. Evaluation
Direction: Describe the probability of
each event. Write S on the line if it is
sure to happen, L if it is likely to
happen, EL if it is equally likely to
happen, U if it is unlikely to happen,
and I if it is impossible to happen.
Answer it in ¼ sheet of paper.

1. picking a mangosteen.
2. Picking a red apple.
3. Picking a green apple or
an orange.
4. Picking a fruit.
5. Picking a guava.

I. Assignment
For your assignment, answer the
following question and tell the probability
of an event and describe if it is sure,
likely, unlikely, and impossible to happen.
Write it in your assignment notebook.
1.
What is the probability that a
man will give birth?

2.

What is the probability that

Class
dark clouds will bring heavy
do rain?
you
have any question? Clarification?
None Ma’am.

Okay before you leave, please pick up the

(Pupils will follow)
pieces of paper under your table.

Goodbye class.
Goodbye Ma’am.
