LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 1

Subject and Grade: Mathematics 1 Quarter: 4 Week : 3 week

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the period, the learners are expected to:

Cognitive: Recognize ½ of a whole.

Psychomotor: Write fractions as ½ of a whole.

Affective: Explain the importance of sharing one’s blessing

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: Recognize ½ of the whole

Reference: MATH FOR LIFE 1 pp.206 – pp.211

Materials: PowerPoint, pictures, real objects, video

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities

1. Review

Counting Equal Groups

2. Motivation

- Show this picture to draw their attention to the value of sharing.

- watch the video.

1. Who among you who shares his/her“ baon “ to others?

2. Who among you gives paper to your classmates?

3. What do you feel when sharing what you have to others?


B. Development Activities

1. Presentation

The teacher will give a picture of one whole pizza in a pair of pupils.

- How will you divide equally the pizza into two?

- How many equal parts are there?

Explain that each part is 1 of 2 equal parts or one half of the pizza. Then
write ½. Write it on the board and let the children read it.

Point to each of the fractions as you explain. The symbol “ – “ tells us that
the whole shape was divided into equal parts. The “ 2 “ below the line tells
us that there are 2 equal part. The “ 1 “ above the line tells us that we are
talking about 1 of the 2 equal parts.

Give each learner a cut out shapes. Let them divide the shapes into
2 equal parts by folding. Write ½ on each part

C. Application

Cut out the shapes and sort if the shapes divide into ½ or not.

If a whole divided into 2 equal parts, one part is called ( ½ )
