CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Modern technology not long ago, daily life was dominated by burdensome, time-

consuming chores that left little time for anything else. People usually worked from home

or within walking distance of their dwellings, and only traveled a short distance away.

People were restricted to their physical capabilities. As new technology emerged, all of

this changed radically. Convenience, efficiency, and accessibility are three ways that

modern technology has improved our lives.

Almost every area of modern life has been enhanced by technological

advancements. Everyday living has been improved, from the alarm clock in the morning

to the entertainment center at night. The automatic coffee maker makes coffee at a

predetermined time. People travel to work in cars or on public transportation, where

computers run at the touch of a button. Washing machines and dryers, dishwashers, air

conditioners, and motorized lawn mowers provide convenience at home. Some argue

that the conveniences are not worth the extra money and effort required to maintain

these devices operational, but the majority of people choose to utilize them. With several

advantages, modern technology has improved life.

Technology has enhanced our lives not only in terms of ease, but also in terms of

efficiency. The time saved by machines handling the majority of the job allows humans

to focus on their personal goals or simply relax. Years ago, when doing laundry could

take a whole day, there was no time to read, go to school, or even go for a leisurely

walk.

On the other hand, some would say that people waste their extra spare time by

lazing around and watching TV. While some people have health issues as a result of

technology, lives are vastly enhanced. Thanks to the efficiency of modern technology,

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 3

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

people now have more time and energy than ever to simply enjoy their life and achieve

their ambitions.

Modern technology has increased accessibility to a wide range of options. Before

could people cross a continent or an ocean in an afternoon. Software that types from

voice commands has made using computers more accessible for school or work. People

with special needs now have many new options thanks to modern technology, such as

special chairs or text readers. In fact, many who use hearing aids as a result of normal

aging now have access to continuing communication and entertainment that they did not

previously have. There are numerous ways that technology has benefited lives through

expanded accessibility.

Modern technology has improved people's lives through convenience, efficiency,

and accessibility, from waking up to music to having coffee ready to getting to work and

doing a day's work. The efficiency provided by technology allows people to spend more

time enjoying life and pursuing personal development, and the accessibility has

broadened travel, school, and work options.

SITUATION ANALYSIS

A substantial contribution of technological innovation is made to the

advancement and enhancement of numerous industry sectors. Each sector must use

systematic processing to ensure rapid and efficient transactions. The use of computer

systems, to improve operations and transactions will assist a variety of industries.

The "Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System" capstone project is

designed for Baptist church organizations in Pangasinan to use in organizing the entry of

data’s whenever church staffs key in their weekly reports. Manual administration of

church activities and records is the conventional method, which can be difficult for

members of organizations due to physical constraints and time constraints.

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 4

Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

The need of management system for the Baptist Church is in demand because the

church needs to store numerous records such as staff’s weekly reports that records

Christian services. Not only to record/store but also associate every Baptist church

through sharing their basic data like attendance, achievements, events and can

communicate each other churches through chat of this system.

STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES

The project’s general objective is to create a system that will automate all the activities
involved in administering the entry of data in the Church, associate other Baptist church
through the system.

The following goals are especially targeted by the project:

1.To create system that allows Baptist Church in Pangasinan to easily manage
and monitor outside and inside records of Church and vital information submitted
by church staffs in conducting Christian services, Church attendance, and
events. Such as:

a. Total Sunday Attendances

b. Upcoming Event
c. Total Members
d. Offering Report
e. Bible Study

2.To evaluate the usability of the developed system in terms of:

a. Efficiency
b. Affect
c. Helpfulness s
d. Control and Learnability

3. The system will be easy to use and efficient.

Significance of the Project

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 5

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

The proponents believe that the result of the project will benefit the following

users.

To the Church Organization. They will benefit from the project's success because it will

give them with a platform to successfully manage church events.

To the Church Members. Thanks to the system, they will be able to easily participate in

various church events and updates.

To the Researchers. Their programming experience will be enhanced by the project's

success. The project will assist them in honing their programming skills and knowledge.

Future Researchers. The study will act as a benchmark for them when they undertake

their own research.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The system has two user levels:

The administrator will be able to:

Create an account - only admin can create account for church workers,

View all account data report - all user input record can be monitor only by admin and

its user own account.

Can modify all recorded data - admin has power to delete and edit all input data by

the user.

Received inquiries - All inquiries are directed from admin set dashboard/

Announcement

Feature - Admin can feature different photos input by the user in their report to display

in homepage.

Limitations

The Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System would only focus on the main

information of the members' profiles, accomplishments, and activities that can be useful

and important to the church's main objectives, which are: the staff/worker weekly report

that records Christian services such as how many bible studies per barangay, souls won

count, bible tracks distributed, kids' extension bible class, and all their names.

Definition of Terms

Admin –  A system administrator, or sysadmin, or admin is a person who is responsible

for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, especially

multi-user computers, such as servers.

Management System – A management system is the way in which an organization

manages the interrelated parts of its business in order to achieve its objectives. These

objectives can relate to a number of different topics, including product or service quality,

operational efficiency, environmental performance, health and safety in the workplace

and many more.

Technological Advancement –  is the generation or discovery of knowledge that

advances the understanding of science or technology.

User – a person who uses or operates something, especially a computer or other

machine.

Baptist- member of a group of Protestant Christians who share the basic beliefs of most

Protestants but who insist that only believers should be baptized and that it should be

done by immersion rather than by the sprinkling or pouring of water. (This view,

however, is shared by others who are not Baptists.) Although Baptists do not constitute

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 7

a single church or denominational structure, most adhere to a congregational form of

church government. Some Baptists lay stress upon having no human founder, no human

authority, and no human creed.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter includes a review of related literature and studies for the proposed

system, dubbed "Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System," which aided and

served as guidance in the effective creation of the suggested system.

Baptism and Church Growth

To be sure, there is no church growth without baptism. However, baptism alone does not

yet produce church growth. Nor should the statistics of church attendance resulting in

part from larger number of baptismal parties be interpreted as a self-evident sign of

organic church growth. Rather, the Church of Norway, like any other Christian church,

needs to decide if it wishes to be satisfied with the baptismally oiled statistics of church

growth or if it feels called to facilitate sustainable church growth in terms of appropriate

attention to the celebration of both baptism and Eucharist as sacramental highlights

within the personal and communal discipleship and witness to the transformative

presence of God in church and world.(Jeanrond, 2021)

Church growth, therefore, cannot be measured merely in terms of counting the number

of individuals that may be gathered on Sundays. Rather, as we have seen, church

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 8

Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

growth refers to how many people have accepted to become persons within this

dynamic fourfold relational network of divine and human love. Of course, we can count

the number of baptisms and the number of people present at our Sunday morning

services. However, no such statistics will ever be able to grasp the real growth in and

among Christians who take their baptism seriously, embark ever afresh on their common

journey with God, empowered by the sacrament of the Eucharist, and inspired by the

hope to participate forever in God’s emerging reign. (Jeanrond, 2021)

“Trusting Automation: Designing for Responsivity and Resilience”(Chiou and Lee

2021)- This paper reviews recent articles related to human trust in automation to guide

research and design for increasingly capable automation in complex work environments.

Much study has gone towards calibrating human trust in order to encourage appropriate

automation dependence. This approach overlooks the relationship between increasingly

capable automation and system-level outcomes like collaboration and resilience. We use

a relational framing of trust based on the decision circumstance, semiotics, interaction

sequence, and strategy to address these limitations. This relational approach

emphasizes that the purpose is to assist a trusting process by automating

responsiveness, not to increase or even calibrate trust. This frame illustrates why future

research on automation trust should address not only individual traits and how

automation affects individuals, but also how people can impact automation and how

interdependent interactions affect trusting automation. Automation responsiveness and

the ability to resolve conflicting goals may be more essential than reliability and reliance

for improving system design in these new technical and organizational contexts that

move human operators to co-operators of automation.

“Perceptions and Challenges of Church Records Management among Seventh-

day Adventist Pastors in Africa”(A.Nwaomah and S.Nwaomah,2021)- —The

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 9

Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

membership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Africa is estimated to constitute the

highest as compared to other regions of the world. This may have been enhanced by

factors such as the high receptibility of its message on the continent. The amount of

membership that the church holds in Africa has corresponding implication on the volume

of records that its clergy and other record managers’ process. However, there are

concerns about the dependability of some of these records and how they impact the

global church statistics and decisions. The reliability of church records could be

influenced by the perceptions and certain challenges of the records creators and

managers. Therefore, this paper, using an empirical research method, investigated the

perceptions and challenges of church records management among pastors of the church

on the continent. The return rate of the survey was 56.22 percent. The study found that

the respondents have good perception of records and the role they play in organizational

efficiency. Some challenges such as lack of disaster-preparedness, inadequate funding,

lack of personnel training, unavailability and or/or inadequate.

Management

Management is a business function that provides leadership support to organizations’

resources to realize strategic goals and objectives. While churches are not precisely

business organizations tied with specific management practice as requirements

including other complex legal requirements such as filing returns and payment of taxes,

they engage in activities that require adequate planning and execution if they are to be

successful and impact to the Church's growth and development. Hence, there is a need

for an effective governance system for churches that will ensure efficient and effective

utilization of resources and management practices in the growth and development of

Churches. This paper, therefore, aims at presenting an analysis of good governance,

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 10

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

effective managerial strategies and church structure for church growth and development.

This study will employ the use of content analysis of literature as the main components

in the study in the areas of effective managerial practices, corporate Governance and

organizational Structure and its impact on Church growth and development.( Gyampoh

and Asare, 2019)

Usability and user-experience (UX)

Usability and user-experience (UX) are one of the key concerns for information systems’

development; while the practice of evaluating usability and UX has emerged gradually.

Among different criteria of UX and usability evaluation, neurological and physiological

measures influence user perspectives. This article is a systematic literature review

providing a comprehensive review on evaluating usability and UX using neurological and

physiological measures of information systems. The existing research regarding these

measures for evaluating IT systems’ UX and usability have been explored methodically.

An exhaustive search of 957 articles resulted in meticulous screening of 180 articles and

finally 27 articles were reviewed. The findings reveal, neurological and/or physiological

measure-based UX evaluation has become a concerning issue for information systems

over the years and the outcomes are inclined towards evaluation oriented guidelines.

Advertising, gaming and e-commerce applications are widely evaluated application

areas, while web-based platforms are mostly evaluated for such. The review conveys a

number of recommendations for potential future research opportunities related to a

variety of application context, UX/usability evaluation measures, evaluation approaches

and the likes. The implications of this review is expected to open a gateway for many

productive research works in the field of HCI concerning neurological and physiological

measures.(Zaki and Islam, 2021)

SYNTHESIS
Online health diagnosis has already been developed from previous studies and it aims to

diagnose patient’s health problems based on the data provided by the patients and prescribes

proper medication. Some studies employed application programming interfaces with a

diagnostic engine, artificial neural networks, and artificial intelligence to diagnose a patient.

Hence, the data and information that are needed in the development of the proposed system

shows similarity from the studies stated above. These includes collection of various diseases

with their medical information and various symptoms that manifest to a certain illness/disease.

The studies also depicted various user requirements and system requirements that could be

implemented in the proposed system. The significant functional requirements are the following:

E-Consultation. In this feature, the system will offer online consultation between the user and

to the participating health professionals through chat and video call where the user can directly

acquire medical advice from different specializations of doctors. Users can provide the result of

the diagnosis to the session of consultation that will allow the medical practitioner to validate

the results and come up with a second opinion.

Report Generation. In this feature, the recipient of the system can generate various reports

according to their needs such as filtering of most selected symptoms based on gender and age

of the user and generating the most diagnosed health problem in a specified time that will help

the recipient in their decision making.

The non-functional requirements of the proposed system are the following:

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 12

Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

Usability. The proposed system will be at ease of use where the users can easily access

information and navigate menus based on the user interface design.

Reliability. The proposed system will be functional and provides accessible links. It will

display accurate information and error messages will prompt once the system detects failure or

errors.

Performance. The proposed system will be optimized for data processing to carry out

functions and processes without any delays.

To guide the researchers in the development of the system, RAD methodology will be used

for fast development and implementation of the proposed system. To measure the usability of

the system, the researchers will use SUMI Questionnaires to assess the quality of the software

product or prototype usage that helps determine flaws in terms of the product’s usability.

Conceptual Framework

The project framework is a researcher's tool to serve as a guide in the

development of the study. Without a framework, the structure and vision of a study are
unclear, and it cannot be built without a blueprint like a house (Grant 2014). The
proponents used the Input-Process-Output (IPO) model which provides a general
structure and guides for the direction of the project.

Figure 1.1 illustrates the existing process in monitoring child growth and
malnutrition, problems that were encountered in the current system, the functional
requirements of the stakeholders which all serve as inputs for the development of the
system.

Research and observation about the existing process of monitoring child growth
and malnutrition was conducted. To better understand the system requirements,
interviews were conducted. These inputs were essential factors in the generation of the
system’s specifications.

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 13

These inputs were transformed to its expected output, using the rapid application
development methodology that comprises requirement planning, analysis and design,
construction, and implementation phases. The result was the Child Growth and
Malnutrition Monitoring System. To have a better overview about the methodology used
in the developed system, please refer to Figure 3.1.

CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter gives an outline of study methods that the proponents followed in the

study. It also presents the research design, population and sample of the study,

research instruments, data gathering procedures, and analysis of the data.

Project Design

The researchers used descriptive and developmental research for the development

of the Online Health Diagnosis and E-Consultation System.

Descriptive research is defined as a research method that describes the

characteristics of the population or event being studied (Banks, 2020). This method

focuses more on the

“what” of the research subject than on the “why” of the research subject. In other words,

rather than focusing on the “why” of a particular event, descriptive research primarily

focuses on describing the nature of a population segment.

This study is descriptive research with the use of interviews and surveys. This study

conducts descriptive surveys to assess users’ profiles and determine their needs

necessary in our system.

Developmental research has been defined as the systematic study of designing,

developing, and evaluating instructional programs, processes, and products that must

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 15

Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

meet the criteria of internal consistency and effectiveness. Developmental research is

particularly important in the field of instructional technology (Seels & Richey, 1994).

Hence, Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology is used for the development

of the Online Health Diagnosis and E-Consultation System.

The primary advantage of RAD was the increased speed of software development

and increased quality. The speed increase could be achieved using a variety of methods

including rapid prototyping, the use of CASE tools, and other techniques. RAD took

advantage of powerful application development tools to develop high-quality applications

rapidly. Prototyping will also be used to help users visualize and request changes to the

system as it is being developed, allowing applications to evolve continuously.

Figure 2. Phases of Rapid Application Development (RAD)

The RAD model contained four (4) phases: (1) Requirements Planning, (2) User

Design, (3) Rapid Construction, and (4) Cutover.

Requirements Planning. During this stage, the researchers and users will

communicate to determine the goals and expectations of the project as well as current

and potential issues that were needed to be addressed during the build.

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 16

Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

User Design. During this phase, users will interact with the developers to ensure the

needs are met at every step in the design process. This method will allow the

developers to tweak the model until a satisfactory design is reached.

Rapid Construction. In this phase, the prototypes from the design phase will be

converted into a working model. Because the majority of the problems and changes or

improvements will be addressed during the thorough iterative design phase.

Cutover. This will be the implementation phase where the finished product will be

launched. The new system will be built, delivered, as all final changes will be made while

the coders and clients continue to look for bugs in the system.

SAMPLE

Project Design

This study should have facts with appropriate results and findings. Thus, we used descriptive

and developmental research in “Online Information Management System for Internship”.

Descriptive research is a type of research that provides an accurate portrayal of

characteristics of a particular individual, situations, or group. This type is a means of discovering

new meaning, describing what exists, describing the frequency with which something occurs,

and categorizing information. In other words, the descriptive research attempts to describe,

explain and interpret conditions of the present. The purpose of a descriptive research is to

examine a phenomenon that is occurring at a specific place(s) and time. A descriptive research

is concerned with conditions, practices, structures, differences or relationships that exist,

opinions held, processes that are going on or trends that are evident (Pedraza, 2014).

In relation, the functional and non-functional requirements of the proposed application

under the descriptive research included data gathering which required respondent’s

participation in order to collect data.

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 17

Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

Furthermore, the developmental research was used in designing the proposed application

“Online Information Management System for Internship”. The researchers plan to use Scrum

Methodology as an application development model. The developmental research focuses on

the study of designing, developing, evaluating programs, processes, and products to meet the

criteria of internal consistency and effectiveness (Richey and Klein, 2014).

The Scrum sprint-phases are: (a) Initiate, (b) Plan and estimate, (c) Implement, (d) Review

and retrospect, and (e) Release. Iterations of design and development stages of the Scrum

methodology will help improve the delivery of the initial prototype. The researchers will

conduct “sprints” in every two weeks. Sprint refers to the iteration for a developing prototype

until the whole application is developed and delivered to the product owner (end user).

Initiate. In this phase, the researchers will function as a Scrum team that consisted of a

Scrum master along with its members. The team will create a project vision, product backlog

and conduct release planning to guide them in completing the project.

Plan and Estimate. In this phase, the researchers will plan on how to develop an application

by the use of creating the Sprint Backlog to satisfy the needs of the user.

Implement. In this phase, the researchers will finally develop the “Online Information

Management System for Internship” using PHP as the server-side programming language.

Review and Retrospect. The researchers will test the functionality of the said application if it

is already efficient and also if it meets the expectation of the end-users through usability

testing.

Release. The developed application will be initially implemented to its users.

The Scrum phases will be iterated within the following sprints until the prototype is

transformed to its final version. Afterwards, the expected output or developed application is

subjected into the final implementation to the end user.

Population and Locale of Study

This study will be conducted to Pangasinan Doctors and Health Workers of Urdaneta

City. To conduct the study, interviews with doctors from different specialties in

Pangasinan will be carried out to determine symptoms relevant to a disease and identify

the procedures for diagnosing a patient’s health problem. Health workers of Urdaneta

City will also be interviewed to understand the methods they do in determining

outbreaks. Selected individuals living in Urdaneta City will also be interviewed to

determine their needs.

Through the information that will be gathered, the researchers will be able to

determine and identify the problems and needs of the end-user.

Data Instrumentation

The following are the data gathering tools that will be used by the researchers to

further describe the needed information about the respondents.

For Objective No.1, the researchers will use a structured interview as the first step in

collecting the data and information needed in the development of the system. The

interview will focus on understanding the procedures for diagnosing a patient's health

problem and determining the various symptoms they validated to come up with the

diagnosis.

For Objective No.2, the researchers will use an online survey questionnaire that will

focus on understanding the needs of the users in terms of health diagnosis and

econsultation. Questionnaires are helpful to the researchers to identify the user

requirements and system requirements of the Online Health Diagnosis and E-

Consultation System.

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 19

Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

For Objective No.3, the researchers will use prototyping tools to present

visualizations of the design of the system to understand the look and feel of the final

product and to gain insights how real users would actually use the product.

For Objective No. 4, the researcher will use an online survey questionnaire that will

be based on Software Usability Measurement Inventory (SUMI) focusing on: (a)

Efficiency, (b) Affect, (c) Helpfulness, (d) Control and (e) Learnability. This will help the

researchers to study how the end-users will use the system and their preferred features.

This will be used for measuring the usability of the Online Health Diagnosis and E-

Consultation System according to the user’s evaluation. By using this, the researchers

will be able to determine whether the system is helpful and efficient or not.

Data Analysis

This section involved the tools which will be used in data analysis to gather and

interpret the data that is needed in the production of the requirements in the

development of the system.

For Objective No. 1, the data gathered from the interviews will be reviewed and

analyzed. The result will guide the researchers on what are the needed data and

information in the system.

For Objective No. 2, the data from the survey questionnaires will be analyzed. The

analysis will determine the user requirements and system requirements needed in the

system.

For Objective No.3, the researchers will use Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) for

the database design of the system. Use Case Diagram to specify the system features

and capabilities that the user could perform. System Flowchart to visualize the flow of

the system and get a picture of the functionality needed for the system.

Pangasinan Baptist Church Management System 20

Pangasinan State University – Bayambang Campus
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

For Objective No. 4, the data that will be gathered from the SUMI questionnaire will

be tallied and summarized. The proponents will get the overall mean for the treatment of

data and the results will be interpreted by using the Likert Scale.

Table 1. Likert Scale for Usability Testing

Proposed Implementation Plan

The __________title________________ will be an internet-based system that makes use of a

user-friendly application programming interface to help the DSDWD to monitor the child growth

and malnutrition.

The system will make use of Hypertext Mark-up Language, Cascading Style Sheets, Javascript,

Ajax and PHP as well as MySQL for the database.

The system will make use of the application programming interface (API) made by ApiMedic.

ApiMedic allows developers to integrate symptom checker functionality into their applications

that allows users to discover their possible disease they may have. This also guides users to

more medical information and shows them the appropriate doctor for more details.

Implementation of the proposed system requires various resources such as hardware

(computer/laptops), software (text-editors, database management systems, graphic design

software), and people(programmers, designers). A web server is needed that will host the

system and deliver it to the recipient and the end-users. The system will be offered to the Local

Government Unit of Basist for testing and operation.
