Technology as a Collaboration Tool

One way to engage students is to give them a challenge and a chance to work together.

 Give students an issue to discuss which they can continue talking about even if they
are outside of the class. Students can come up with an agreement by texting, emailing,
chatting, or using the line document. Once they have agreed, they can move to the
next step of presenting their agreements to the whole class.

 Normally, teachers discourage students from conversing with classmates during

individual work, but there are times when it can be beneficial as students talk about
the task assigned to them or work themselves through a difficult task.

There are a lot of tools and applications available to help you collaborate with others more
effectively.
Skype, wikis, blogs, Google forms, web conferencing, and Realtimeboard are a few
examples. To become acquainted with the features of each application, you must first explore
it.
1. Skype – is a software application allowing you to do a
videoconferencing for free. All you need is to create an
account and can be used for a video meeting.

2. Wiki – is a software that allows you to create a page or a

selection of pages designed to allow you to post or write,
edit, or upload a link quickly.
The main purpose of wikis is to create a space where people can collaborate in writing a same
text on a single topic and relate this text to other texts. An other main purpose of many wikis
is sharing knowledge for a common good,
A wiki allows a group of people to enter and communally edit bits of text. These bits of
text can be viewed and edited by anyone who visits the wiki. That's it. What it means is that,
when you come to a wiki, you are able to read what the wiki's community has written.

what is the main benefit of a wiki?

A main advantage of a wiki is that it provides the ability to collaborate
asynchronously, or without any time constraints. Team members working on a
report can log in and work whenever they are able.
Wikipedia is not a reliable source for citations elsewhere on Wikipedia. As a user-
generated source, it can be edited by anyone at any time, and any information it contains at
a particular time could be vandalism, a work in progress, or simply incorrect
