Activity 1

Directions. In your own words, answer the following questions based on

the lessons provided.

1. Differentiate Art History from Art Appreciation

 The study of works of art in their stylistic and historical contexts is what
differentiates art history from art appreciation. In order to fully understand the
purpose of the work of art, which is to understand the world and the societies
in which it was created rather than just to be objects. While the term "art
appreciation" pertains to the observation and understanding of the existing
kinds of artwork to which we are presented. It must possess knowledge and
understanding in order to comprehend the background of the piece's history
and the period in which it was created.

2. Choose one definition of Art from the lesson and give your personal
interpretation
 According to Merriam Webster defines art as “the conscious use of skills and
creative imagination specially in the production of aesthetic objects”. For my
personal interpretation from this Merriam Webster definition, you can produce
pieces of artwork of any creation if you apply your skill sets, talents, and
ingenuity with intentions.”
3. Explain the following:

A. Art is universal
 Art is a universal language that conveys the message and strong emotions.
Given the fact that this really predates our human existence, it is perennial
and extensive. It supersedes cultures, ethnicity, and society that can be
powerful and all-pervasive.

B. Art is not nature

 Human art is temporary in the constant transformation of change, it will never
be described as natural. By combining conscious skill and creativity to
portray thoughts, concepts, and emotions that are conveyed and represented
in a creative and artistic way, an artist can create works of art, however they
are not able to create nature.

C. Art involves experience

 An approach to discover conviction and statement through the arts that
integrate experience that requires contributing in our daily experiences, such
as using our bodies and resource materials.
Assignment: Go to You Tube-Five 16 Film Festival Art Appreciation After
watching the short video, make your personal impression on how this
presentation is related to our discussion

 Jake and Mary are the main characters of the short "Art Appreciation"
YouTube video from the Five 16 Film Festival. Jake is the opposite of Mary
since he lacks Mary's knowledge, interest, and depth of understanding in the
arts; Mary is mindful of the significance of each piece of artwork at the
museum, which really is essential for appreciating the art. Jake, on the other
hand, lacks a comprehensive understanding of art and thinks literally about
matters that are merely based on visuals. Art is indeed an emotion and an
experimental interpretation of reality; always keep in mind that art represents
the artist's thoughts symbolically. Moreover, art may be viewed from a variety
of perspectives, helping you to appreciate it for what it is. At first, you might
not get the symbolic importance of the artwork, but as long as you are
genuinely interested in understanding whatever its purpose was, you will
eventually understand it. Just how Jake interprets his perspective in art at the
end of the video, regardless of the fact that it is basically a stain that must be
cleaned up. Definitely a surprising ending of a story.
