CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Rationale
Covid-19 vaccines become necessary of the life of lot of people in this generation.
With the rapid spread of the infectious disease virus which is the Covid-19 in the Philippines,
the Department of Health is implementing the “BAYANIHAN BAKUNAHAN” to secure the
health of the Filipino people who is at age five and above by giving them a free shot of
vaccine for the virus. Enable them to have a shield and could prevent from being infected.
Somehow, there are still Filipino people who is at age five and above are not get their
vaccines yet and does not want to be vaccinated, despite of the alarming virus that already
killed millions of people around the world. Vaccines are very important to the people because
it can help to reduce the infected people and lessen the hospitalize. People should get their
vaccine because it is only the cure for Covid-19 virus for them to be safe and to have a
healthy body.
The Department of Health provide a free vaccine to all Filipinos enable to reach the
heard immunity of the country. Which all Filipinos are encouraged to get their first dose of
vaccines. As a result, lot of Filipinos participant attend to the National Vaccination Day who
is willing to get their vaccines that made the vaccine status in the Philippines high at 62.9% in
over 100% population in the Philippines (From Our World in Data).
Recently, the Covid-19 vaccine become hot topic in the Philippines because of the
other people’s views about the vaccine. As a vaccinated person, it is interesting to find out
about the perspective issue of the unvaccinated people for Covid-19 vaccine. Determining
what unvaccinated people say about the rumors of some people who passed away because of
the vaccines that make them decide to be not vaccinated.
Unvaccinated people will become easily infected with the virus. Some Filipinos are not
willing to get their vaccines. Encouraging the unvaccinated people in a proper way, it would
be the best to convince them to get their vaccine, for example giving a fact information about
the trusted vaccine that it is not bad in our body. Unvaccinated people could realize and made
their decision that getting the vaccines is a must for them to be safe. With all the
considerations herein cited, the researchers will asses what are the main reason of the
unvaccinated people of what reasons made them to decide to remain as an unvaccinated.
Objective of the study
CHAPTER II
In the USA and Germany, high-level officials have used the term pandemic of the
unvaccinated, suggesting that people who have been vaccinated are not relevant in the
epidemiology of COVID-19. Officials’ use of this phrase might have encouraged one
scientist to claim that “the unvaccinated threaten the vaccinated for COVID-19”.1 But this
view is far too simple.
There is increasing evidence that vaccinated individuals continue to have a relevant role in
transmission. In Massachusetts, USA, a total of 469 new COVID-19 cases were detected
during various events in July 2021, and 346 (74%) of these cases were in people who were
fully or partly vaccinated, 274 (79%) of whom were symptomatic. Cycle threshold values
were similarly low between people who were fully vaccinated (median 22·8) and people who
were unvaccinated, not fully vaccinated, or whose vaccination status was unknown (median
21·5), indicating a high viral load even among people who were fully vaccinated.2 In the
USA, a total of 10 262 COVID-19 cases were reported in vaccinated people by April 30,
2021, of whom 2725 (26·6%) were asymptomatic, 995 (9·7%) were hospitalized, and 160
(1·6%) died.3 In Germany, 55·4% of symptomatic COVID-19 cases in patients aged 60 years
or older were in fully vaccinated individuals,4 and this proportion is increasing each week. In
Münster, Germany, new cases of COVID-19 occurred in at least 85 (22%) of 380 people who
were fully vaccinated or who had recovered from COVID-19 and who attended a nightclub.5
People who are vaccinated have a lower risk of severe disease but are still a relevant part of
the pandemic. It is therefore wrong and dangerous to speak of a pandemic of the
unvaccinated. Historically, both the USA and Germany have engendered negative
experiences by stigmatizing parts of the population for their skin color or religion. I call on
high-level officials and scientists to stop the inappropriate stigmatization of unvaccinated
people, who include our patients, colleagues, and other fellow citizens, and to put extra effort
into bringing society together.
VACCINE HESITANCY
ABSTRACT
Vaccine hesitancy, which embodies the unwillingness to receive vaccines when vaccination
services are available and accessible, is one of the greatest threats to global health. Although
vaccine hesitancy has existed among a small percentage of people for centuries, its harmful
effects are likely to be more pronounced during the COVID-19 pandemic than ever before.
COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy will pose substantial risks for both people who delay or refuse
to be vaccinated and the wider community. It will make communities unable to reach
thresholds of coverage necessary for herd immunity against COVID-19, thus unnecessarily
perpetuating the pandemic and resulting in untold suffering and deaths. Vaccine hesitancy is
pervasive, misinformed, contagious, and is not limited to COVID-19 vaccination. Our work
shows that vaccine hesitancy is a complex and dynamic social process that reflects multiple
webs of influence, meaning, and logic. People’s vaccination views and practices usually
comprise an ongoing engagement that is contingent on unfolding personal and social
circumstances, which can potentially change over time. Therefore, as COVID-19 vaccination
rolls out globally, scientists and decision-makers need to investigate the scale and
determinants of vaccine hesitancy in each setting; so that tailored and targeted strategies can
be developed to address it.
MILLIONS UNVACCINATED
The White House COVID-19 Response Team noted that more than 165 million Americans
are fully vaccinated.
However, there are still about 90 million who are eligible to be vaccinated but haven’t been.
Experts say the uptick in COVID-19 cases is happening largely because of the number of
people who remain unvaccinated.
“They play a huge role. If everyone is vaccinated, eventually infections drop to zero and so
do variants, “Parikh said. “But if the virus has an easy host, such as an unvaccinated
individual, then it is easy for it to mutate into a more contagious and virulent form.”
DEFINITION OF TERMS
RESEARCH DESIGN
A case study design will be used in this study. It tries to understand the reasons of the
unvaccinated individuals. Furthermore, case study will be used in this study as it intends to
determine the valid reasons of any individual.
RESEARCH MATERIALS
The researchers formulated guide questions as the research instrument of the study. An
interview will be done for the researcher to have enough data and knowledge on how
unvaccinated individual face the aftereffect of their decision.
RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT
In this study the researchers will conduct this study in the respectful barangay of Magatas and
its Sitio (Tini-naan) in the municipality of Sogod, Southern Leyte. As we heed in the
Barangay Health Workers (BHW) of the Barangay Magatas and its Sitio, that most of the
residents there are unvaccinated rather than vaccinated residents.
Main Questions:
1. Is there’s a chance that you (unvaccinated) will also get your shots of the vaccine?
3. Suppose that you must go somewhere for a vacation and to be fully vaccinated is one of
the requirements of you to be able to travel, would be that convince you to get your vaccine
doze?
