FUNCTIONS OF VCU
VCU is the Brain of Any locomotive system which will control all the activities of a
Locomotive
• MVB Monitor
• Faults handling
• Node generation
• Limit Monitor
• Multi Loco operation
• Simulation
• Vigilance Control
•Brake system control
Etc
TECHNICAL DATA
Slot E contains an Analog routing Board. The Analog signals are connected to this PCB
through front connectors, this signals are routed to Analog I/O card type at slot F.
Slot F contains an Analog I/O Card. This card converts all analog signals to digital
signals and digital to analog. The digital data is stored in the RAM, so that any
application processor card can access.
Application processor board resides in slot G, Which functions in the main vehicle as a
FLG computer & function as low voltage control (STB).Other application processor
board at slot S function auxiliary equipment control computers (HBB).
G slot application processor card STB function gives services to 2 digital I/O boards and
occupies slot J & L.
A passive temperature sensor is provided in slot K. This PCB is only holding a passive
thermostat. The thermostat is filled with fluid and has a capillary in it connected to a
thermostat switch. The purpose is to activate the thermostat switch when the
temperature reaches 70 degree Celsius .The capillary is brought out through the front
into the PCB .The thermostat switch is mounted outside the rack.
Application processor HBB board at slot S gives services to 2 digital I/O cards of slots O
& Q.
MVB Admin Board at slot T is responsible for the MVB Bus traffic Administration and
storing diagnostic messages as well as work as diagnostic terminal interface to display
information in DDU through W slot MVB repeater card.
A multi redundant MVB Bus coupler card at slot V & it couples VCU II as well as to other
bus station like SR1/2, BUR1, 2 &3 through fiber optic medium.
MVB repeater card at slot W is used to connect WTB for multi loco or push pull
operation also to interface with MVB admin to display MVB and fault data to DDU.
