INSTRUCTION:
1. Carry out the experiment in the lab to collect and record the data then interpret the data
and make a conclusion.
2. Write a task report

PEKA Physics Form 4 CHAPTER 4: Heat
1. In both experiments, explain why woolen cloth was used to wrap the
apparatus.
2. In the case of aluminium block, explain why the gaps between immersion
heater and thermometer are filled with oil.
3. In both case, why did the temperature continue to rise after the power
supply has been switched off?.
4. Explain why the values of specific heat capacity of water and aluminium
from the experiment are higher than the actual values.

Discussion :
CIV P 3 1. To reduce the loss of heat to the surroundings.
2. Oil is a better heat conductor than air, thus the heat transfer between the
heater and the aluminium block and between aluminium block and the
thermometer is more efficient.
3. Thermal equuilibrium has not been reached yet, hence, there is still a net flow
of heat from the heater in both cases.
4. Because of the heat loss to the surroundings during the experiment.
CIV P 4 Precaution:
To reduce heat loss, the experiments were carried out in still air, away from the fan or
the fan is not moving.
