ABSTRACT

LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ON POSITIVE STRESS COPING MECHANISM.

ANDRES JLKR, CACAYORIN JAG, IBON LGP, JUAN EMD, RACCA MN, Bachelor
of Science in Nursing, Mariano Marcos State University (City of Batac, Philippines).
June 2021.

"Stress" has been dubbed the "Health Epidemic of the 21st Century" by the

World Health Organization (2016). This pandemic turned out to be a stressor to people

due to many reasons according to Philippine Statistics Authority. Hence, this study

determined the knowledge of the residents of Barangay 9 San Lorenzo Sarrat,

Barangay 23 San Matias Laoag City and Barangay Baligat City of Batac which has the

highest COVID19 cases in Ilocos Norte from May 21 to May 26, 2021.

The researchers utilized the descriptive research design to determine the profile

of the respondents, their level of knowledge on positive coping mechanisms, and the

common practices of the respondents on stress coping among the 197 community

people within the age limit of 21 – 59 years old of any gender, as determined by

Slovin’s formula.

The research questionnaire served as the instrument for collecting data through

the Google form platform. The data that was gathered was tabulated and analyzed.

The categories have been ranked and counted through descriptive statistics like

frequency count and rank distribution. To which they perceived “Watching movies and

entertaining comedies” as the top stress coping mechanism, and to which they

correspondingly practice.

Recommendation from the researchers encourage nursing learners to raise

awareness regarding the positive coping mechanisms; for the university administrator

to support learners in the conduct; for the health practitioners to advocate for the

v
possible ways to reduce stress; for the LGUs to enforce programs on regarding stress

coping; lastly, for future researchers to utilize the study as a springboard for future

researches.

Key Points: stress, positive coping mechanisms, pandemic, knowledge, springboard,

awareness
