2A/1, Darus Salam Road, Mirpur-1, Dhaka-1216, Bangladesh Faculty of Engineering Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Course Conducted by: Shuvodip Das Designation: Lecturer, Department: ETE Contact: 01190084838, 01823933171 Email: [email protected], [email protected] COURSE OUTLINE Course Code: Digital Communications and Telephony Course Title: ETE 321 Credits: 2+1=3 Summer Semester, 2011 Course Objectives: After completing this course, students will be i) Familiar with digital communication system. ii) Able to comprehend information signal representation, processing, digitizing. iii) Able to get in-depth knowledge on Digital to Digital Conversion, different modulation schemes and their applications and features. iv) Able to understand different multiplexing schemes and their applications. v) Able to get adequate knowledge on Digital Switching and telephone network. vi) Familiar with digital communication considerations. Mainly this course is designed to give the knowledge on background technologies used in modern communication industries. Before going to the advanced courses such as Cellular Radio and Mobile Telecommunication (ETE 451), this course can act as prerequisite course. So, students are advised to take to course seriously. Books Recommended:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. B.P. Lathi, Analog & Digital Communication System Simon Heykin Digital Communication System Y. Lce, Mobile Cellular Communication System Theodore S. Class Attendance and Expectation from the Students: i) ii) iii) iv) Every student is to be Present in all the classes. If any student is found to be absent in a class, he/she should justify his/her absence. All the students are to be serious, attentive and upto date with their study of the references, class teachers concentrating on these chapters set forth in the outline and to copy with the topics in the classes. Every hour of classroom teaching has to be backed up by adequate private study so that the students can acquire reasonable proficiency in the specific areas of the course. It is strongly recommended that students (as well as the teacher) must keep the ring tones of their mobile off during class hours.
