I am writing in application for the Master of Science in International Finance at Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR).
The Berlin School of Economics and Law is a respectable educational institution that achieves a combination of high-level
intensive research with clear practical applications, the most exacting of quality standards, and a strong network of international
academic exchange. This is a great chance for me to make substantial progress in my personal career since I believe that the
master’s degree from one of the most recognised and prestigious business schools will provide comprehensive knowledge and
skills in research, policy making and addressing the complex issues facing the international.
My interest in finance started when I was seventeen helping my family run our stationery business by ordering goods, managing
invoices, and tracking daily revenue. Then, curiosity about family economics, how to control inventory effectively and how to
maximise profits while incurring minimal costs has encouraged me to choose finance as my major. During my undergraduate
at Western Sydney University in Australia, studying various aspects of finance such as business cycles, how a country’s
economy works, how businesses operate on a day-to-day basis, and reading firms’ financial statements has further concreted
my passion in this field. I realised that finance is not only about numbers and mathematics but also an interwoven tapestry of
the behavioural life cycle, social wealth distribution and economic management.
My time in Australia has not only provided me with a sound educational background, but also with valuable experiences as an
international student. During this time, I have been steadily strengthening my communication and problem-solving skills while
developing my adaptability, independence, and self-awareness. These skills have also been brought to use when I worked as a
business relationship officer at the PG Bank in Vietnam. My key responsibilities were to provide secured lines of credit for
companies from assessing their financial statements and collaterals; to assist other firms in issuing bank guarantees, and to
manage international transactions. I have experienced more about the business and credit environment in the local states and
expanded my knowledge regarding the relationship between trade finance, international payments, and financial development.
However, after over one year working at the local bank, the need to deepen my knowledge, enhance my professional
competence in finance, and expand my worldview has motivated me to make the decision that acquiring a master’s degree
would be a logical step towards improving my career prospects. In the next five years, I would like to become an asset manager
and acquire professional certifications like the CFA or the CAIA. When looking through the curriculums offered by HWR,
courses such as Econometrics, Financial Economics, Management of International Assets Portfolios, and International
Corporate Finance are crucial for my career growth. This is indubitably allowing me to obtain the necessary knowledge and
skills in investment valuation and analysis to proceed with my explorations.
Germany has caught my interest because this colourful and cosmopolitan country has the fourth largest economy in the world
and is a leading social market economy due to a highly qualified labour forces, a well-developed infrastructure, a low level of
corruption and a high level of innovation. Along with the long and great history, the diverse culture stresses national identity,
privacy, punctuality, hard-working and profound patriotism. The quality of German education meets the strictest standards and
is globally recognised. For those reasons, I chose Germany as my next destination to get higher education and explore all
aspects of life. I also believe that learning German as a third language will give me an insight into the lives of German-speaking
countries and greatly improve my chances for effective communication and professional careers.
It is of no doubt that pursuing a master’s degree in a foreign country would come with great challenges. However, I believe
my education and work experience have prepared me well for this endeavour. As experience and education are part of a
continuous process, and as new knowledge is developed, oftentimes overturning old knowledge, your master program will
give appropriate encouragement for me to step closer in an advanced environment and contribute to the societies.
Yours faithfully,
