Metacognitive Reading Report # 1

1. Things that I significantly learned from the readings…


Physical self really defines us as an individual, our skin color, height, weight, body shape
and many more physical attributes that makes us unique as a person. One of the concepts I
acquired understanding the reading is Environmental Conditioning. Our surroundings shape us to
be more ourselves where we can understand our personality even more because we interact to
our surroundings. We learned how to communicate with other people and through this we can
improve our social skills and know the practices of different individuals. Through this concept I
also realized that humans make adjustment to themselves so that their physical attributes are
acceptable to the standards of the group. As an experience, I also made sure that I’m attractive
when going outside because I didn’t want to be judged by the people around me. However, having
this mentality makes me sick that’s why I started loving who I really am and embracing my flaws
and worth. I also acquired on how to achieve of a physical well-being. Growing up, my parents
taught me the right way to take care with my body and health. Since then, I always made sure
that my health is on the state of being healthy and strong. However, I have an experience where
I ignored all the lessons my parents taught me and I started not taking care of myself because of
the feeling of heartbreak. I didn’t eat anything and starting to lose weight that made my parents
and friends worried about my health. I started realizing things that made me move on and started
living a healthy life again. We shouldn’t let the person to control our life and live our life to the
fullest. Lastly, take care of ourselves because self-love is a must because if you learn to love
yourself, you’ll gain self-esteem and self-confidence. These two characteristics will shape your life
because it will make you prouder of who you become as an individual.

2. Things that are still unclear to me…


There comes a time where you stare at the mirror and tell yourself if you are worthy as a
person. The things that are still unclear to me is the concept of achieving physical well-being
because is it really necessary to follow all those steps to achieve a healthy you? In my own opinion,
we have different things to have fun its either you go out, drink, play and many more, as long as
your happy and confident on what you are as person. I think there’s nothing wrong in drinking or
anything but do it moderately. Don’t push yourself to something that may cause you trouble with
yourself. Continue living your life and sometimes it’s not bad to get out of your own comfort zone
however, know your limits because in setting limits in everything you do then, you won’t regret
any decisions in life. If ever life puts you down, learn to stand up and still continue aiming for your
goals. It’s our decision on what personality we show to people as long as we don’t hurt the feelings
of others. We should learn to accept their flaws and imperfections because nobody’s perfect and
we know that’s life. As I said, self-love is a must and before loving a person in your life, you should
love first yourself. Life is beautiful and enjoy every moment of it.

3. Three (3) questions that I want to ask about the readings


• How can insecurities affect someone’s life especially its mental, social and physical self?
• What is the basis of beauty to different groups?
• How can your surroundings affect your mentality about your physical self?
