INTRODUCTION OF
PAVEMENTS
 India has one of the largest road networks in
the world, aggregating to about 71 lakh
kilometer at present.
 Expressways/National Highways - 37%
 State Highways - 24%
 Major District roads - 36%
 Other District roads - 2%
 Village roads - 1%
•Water absorbing Road/concrete is also called as "Topmix permeable"
which acts as a giant sponge, allowing the rainwater to drain through it.

It is a special type of concrete with a high porosity used for concrete

flatwork applications that allows water to pass directly.

It reduces the runoff and allowing groundwater recharge.

The high porosity is attained by a highly interconnected void content.

Recognized as the best management practice by US Environment

Protection agency (EPA).
TYPES OF
PAVEMENTS

 Rigid pavement
 Flexible pavement
PERMEABLE  Allows rainwater to pass through it.
PAVEMENT  Made up of pervious concrete.
 It is also called as "Thirsty concrete'.
 Environmental friendly.
TYPES OF PERMEABLE PAVEMENT

1. Permeable concrete pavement

2. Permeable asphalt concrete
3. Porous Paver block
Permeable concrete pavement

 Permeable pavement has pores or openings that allow water to

pass through the surface and stone base material and infiltrate
into the underlying soils.
Materials required for
permeable pavement

 Cement
 Fine Aggregate
 water
1. ratio of cement, aggregate, water = 1 : 1 :
36% by weight
2. size of slab = Width – 1feet, Length – 2 feet,
Thickness – 6inch
3. Volume for 1 block = 0.9996 c.f.t = 1 c.f.t
Mix preparation
4. Wet volume =1.54 c.f.t
5. weight of Cement Content = 21.8064 kg
6. weight of fine Aggregate = 21.8064 kg
7. Water required = 7 litter
Step – 1 :- Take the Cement,
Fine Aggregate, water.
Steps Of
Preparing Step – 2 :- Mix all the material in
proper manner.
Pavement
Step – 3 :- At the time of preparing
mixture ,water added to make Shour
it is workable.

Step – 4 :- preparing the mould by

wood.

Step – 5 :- than casting the mixture of

(cement, aggregate, water).
Step – 6 :- Tamping the mixture.

Step – 7 :- At last make finishing it.

Step – 8 :- than leaving to gain

strength for 24 hours.

Step – 9 :- curing it for 7day's, 21day's,

28day's.

Step – 10 :- testing the slab in different

time duration ( 7, 21, 28 day's).

Difference Between pervious And Impervious Concert

Pervious Concert Impervious Concert

Difference Between Pervious And Impervious Concert
 Reduces runoff from site.
 Helps in unchanging ground water.
 Eliminates need for retention ponds &
Advantages other costly storm water management
practices.
 Provides for more efficient use of land
development.
 Water resources are conserved
 Adjacent trees and vegetation are
allowed more rainwater.
 The permeability of pervious concrete
provides increased safety for drivers.
Pervious concrete pavement construction is an exceptionally good
method to improve sustainability of construction. It effectively
recharges the ground water and also helps in control of urban heat
island effect. Even though compression strength is low, it can be used
for light traffic roads, pavements, parking lots, and paving the front of
houses.

The pervious concrete helps the water to infiltrate

Conclusion

Cities with pervious pavements would be safer for traffic, be cleaner

and less pollution.
