5/7/22 The Teaching of Music and Arts

Answer the ff: questions and statements 1.
State the legal bases of teaching Music and
Arts 10pts
Article II, Section 17 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution provides: "The State shall give priority to
education, science and technology, arts, culture, and sports to foster patriotism and nationalism,
accelerate social progress, and promote total human liberation and development." Article 14 Sections
14, 15, 17, and 18 of the Philippine Constitution also talks about the preservation of our culture. When
we say culture, it can be our music, arts, and cultural heritage through the means of policies.

2. Do music and Arts belong to the teaching

of four separate subjects? Do they share
the same intended outcomes? Whether
your answer is Yes or No, explain it. 10 pts

Yes, music and art belong to the teaching of four separate subjects, but it is considered as
one in MAPEH.

Yes, music and the arts share the same intended outcomes and approaches and are rooted
in the same philosophies. Based on a curriculum guide I have seen, the outcomes of music and
art are the same. The learner demonstrates understanding of salient features of music and art of
the Philippines and the world, through appreciation, analysis, and performance, for self-
development, the celebration of Filipino cultural identity and diversity, and the expansion of
one’s world view. In my own understanding, the learner must demonstrate their own expression
of their own understanding of art and music in relation to Filipino culture.

3.How about the approaches in teaching

Music ? are they applicable in teaching Arts
? 10 pts

Yes, approaches in music can be applicable to the arts since music and the arts are both student-
centered, meaning that the learners must have experiential learning. Therefore, approaches from
music can be considerably applied to the arts. Both are based on spiral learning where students’
skills and knowledge are enhanced through gradual teaching of concepts from a foundation or
basic knowledge to advanced, so approaches can be the same in arts and music.

4.Explain the goals /Intended Outcomes for

teaching Music and Arts.10pts

"The learner demonstrates understanding of salient features of music and art of the Philippines
and the world, through appreciation, analysis, and performance, for self-development, the
celebration of Filipino cultural identity and diversity, and the expansion of one’s world vision."
This intended outcome or goal of music and art is that the students must know its importance and
appreciate our own music and art that are really made in the Philippines. Learners should be
proud of our own cultural music and art that can be shown to other nations with dignity and
pride. The goals and outcomes should develop the creativity and performance of the learners in
music and art. It’s also said when you study music and art, your IQ level can be enhanced.

5. Research about the Multicultural
approach in teaching music and arts. 10pts
The multicultural approach in teaching music and art is the approach in teaching where other
nations' or global cultures' music and art are being discussed, so it can also be appreciated. It can
also empower the learner’s creation of music or art that can be appreciated globally. Once the
diversity of music and art culture are understood by every nation, the differences of every
individual in terms of cultural music and art can be understood with respect.

6. cite an examples of methods, principles

and approaches in teaching music .10 pts
Student centered must be used because music is a performance-based subject and it needs
learners to experience creating or playing music. They will learn with the proper demonstration
of the teacher while the learners do the learning.

Teaching music should be a spiral progression since music cannot be taught without the
learners mastering every lesson. The foundation of knowledge as it goes on is really important.
Past knowledge can be a reference to the creation of new knowledge, or we can say knowledge
learned from the previous lesson can be used in the future lessons.

Active teaching should also be used since teachers’ guidance and students’ participation are
needed since in music, this includes musical instruments, which could not be learned without
student and teacher interaction. The basics, or the foundation of music, also need interaction
from the notes to beats, etc. It really needs interaction between teacher and students.

A multicultural approach is also needed to have knowledge or insight from other cultures
about their music or arts. To accepts their difference from our difference makes all individual
respect their own cultural music or arts.

In music it should also be integrative learner brings together prior knowledge and experiences to
support new knowledge and experiences. By doing this, learners draw on their skills and apply
them to new experiences at a more complex level.
