    Art involves the concepts of imagination, creativity and beauty. Each culture
    has its standards of what beauty is. Watch the video ―African Body
    Modification‖

    Then, answer the following questions:


    a. What art assumptions are expressed in the different body
    modifications in Africa?
    - The dominant assumptions expressed in the different body modifications in Africa are: 2.
    Art is not nature and 3. Art is cultural.

    b. What makes these body modifications beautiful?


    - Although it may seem scary in the eyes of other people, these body modifications done
    by African tribes embodies how rich their culture is, making it meaningful and beautiful.
    The pain and processes of these body modifications adds beauty to its result since many
    tribe members still do it despite the pain they might feel as respect in their culture. It's
    about the process and experience that makes the result beautiful.
    Assignment
    Reading Task: In preparation for Task 1 in Unit 2, read this article of Isagani Cruz about the art
    installation of Mideo Cruz entitled,―Poleteismo
    (https://www.philstar.com/other-sections/education-and-
    home/2011/09/15/726967/poleteismo-art-not-art)‖. As you read it, reflect on the
    following questions:

    1. According to the article, what is the difference between art and Art?
    - The article asserts that art satisfies and qualifies in a generic sense, more shallow and
    depicts merely expressions unlike Art, which conveys creative expressions and qualifies
    the evaluative sense of the word, its objective qualifications since it is not purely
    subjective. The art can be achieved by anyone however, Art has deeper engagement with
    the artist, thus is the product of long careful, profound hard work of the artist.

    2. What is good art and bad art?


    - A good art has an ability to ennoble, inspires us to be a better person since it bestows
    nobility and dignity to us. However, if the opposite happens and the person turns into the
    worse version of themselves because of an art, then it can be considered as bad art.

    3. Think of an example of art and Art.


    - One example of art is graffiti that is executed in an illegal place, without authorization,
    like the graffiti painted on the wall of a governmental building. On the other hand, one
    Art example under poetry is the iconic poem by John Donne titled "No Man is an Island".
