SS 316 | COMPARATIVE GOVERNMENT AND POLICIES
Chapter 1 – Activity 3
Make it at least 100 words. You can also cite specific examples to prove your claims or
arguments.
“Why do we need to study Philippine Politics and how can you involve yourself in the political
affairs and how can you help in preserving the democratic principle of our government?”
As a Filipino Citizen, we must be aware of our own political system, raise our voices and
pay attention to the political decisions made by our government, which is why we must study the
Philippine politics. We will gain a thorough understanding of what politics is all about, the
function of our own government, the type of government we have, sociopolitical issues and even
the lives of great politicians by studying politics. In this approach, we can develop a tangible
thought around its core principle, allowing us to take a stand against injustices that negatively
impact the people, expose the reality that this particular politician should not be elected or
should be elected. Studying Philippine politics will enable us to gain a better understanding of
how Philippine government functions from local government up to national government. It can
help us become more open-minded so that we can notice when a government figure makes a
mistake or does anything illegal when it is reported to the news. The knowledge we gain from
this will not make us “uto-uto”, or fools in English, of how a country’s ostensibly public servant
leaders perform their duties to ensure proper service to the masses.
As a Filipino citizen who is already qualified to exercise the suffrage rights, exercising
my right to vote is one way I can participate in political affairs. Because we live in a democratic
country where we (the citizens) have the power and right to choose who will be the next leader
of our country. Being a wiser voter is a big opportunity for us to stand speak, or makes a
significant contribution to our nation’s political affairs, particularly in selecting the morally upright
and honest candidate. Another way is to engage in healthy discourse and to exercise our
freedom of expression. Feel free to express what we believe is right and good for our country,
as well as what we believe is wrong with the previous administration, if there should be a
change and correction.
Exercising one’s right to vote is a vital measure to ensure that our government’s
democratic principles are preserved. We can also help to keep our government’s democratic
values alive by intervening, rather than merely remaining silent, on matters that affect our rights
and freedoms. Individual liberties and rights should not be jeopardized in any way. We should
speak up, intervene and fight if we feel anything is wrong and our rights are being abused.
Lastly, to protect our government’s democratic values, we must refrain from running a negative
campaign, such as spreading false information to rival parties, and vote honestly in elections.
