MEASURING SERIES-PARALLEL CIRCUIT OF


CAPACITOR

TAJUK / TITLE: MEASURING SERIES-PARALLEL CIRCUIT OF CAPACITOR

MASA YANG DIBENARKAN : 2 Hours

OBJEKTIF / OBJECTIVE:
1. Student will be able to measure capacitance in series, parallel and combination of series
and parallel circuit.

TUJUAN PENILAIAN / ASSESSMENT AIMS:


1. To verify that in series, parallel and combination of series and parallel circuit, the total
capacitance is equal experimentally and theoretically.

EQUIPMENT / PERALATAN:

1. AC power supply
2. Three 1μF capacitors
3. Multimeter
4. Connecting wires

PANDUAN KESELAMATAN:

1. Do not handle any equipment without reading the safety instructions. Read the
handout and procedures in the manual before starting the experiments.
2. Do your wiring, setup, and a careful circuit checkout before applying power. Do not
make circuit changes or perform any wiring when power is on.
3. Immediately report dangerous or exceptional conditions to the instructor: Equipment
that is not working as expected, wires or connectors are broken, the equipment that
smells or “smokes”. If you are not sure what the problem is or what's going on, switch
off the Emergency shutdown.
4. Never use damaged instruments, wires or connectors. Hand over these parts to the
instructor.

PROSEDURE / PROSEDUR:

Calculating and Measuring Total Capacitance

1. Select 3 capacitors with nominal value 1 μF each. Measure their actual values:
C1 = C 2 = C3 (nominal value) = ____________

Actual values:
C1 = ____________ ; C2 = ______________ ; C3 = ____________

2. Using the actual values and the measured values of the capacitors, calculate the
equivalent capacitance for the circuits given in Figure. 1. Show below all your
calculations and write your results in the corresponding spaces in Table 1.
3. Using the breadboard connect each of the three capacitor configurations given in
Figure 1 and measure their equivalent capacitance. Write your results in Table 1.
