D. LESSON PROPER
Teaching / Modelling – I DO IT
E. (Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills)
 Product of the Sum and Difference of Two Terms
The product of the sum and difference of two terms is given where the first and
second terms of the two binomials are the same, hence the only different is the operation
sign, given the general formula:
(a + b) (a - b) = a2 - b2
The general formula (a + b) (a – b) = a2 - b2 is derived using the FOIL method.
(a + b) (a – b) = a2 + ab – ab - b2
Since the two middle terms are opposites, their sum is 0. Thus, the pattern of the
product of the sum and difference of two terms is a2 - b2
Examples:
1. Find the product of ( x + 5 ) ( x - 5 )
Solution:
Let a = x and b = 5
Using the special product of the form a2 - b2, we have:
(x + 5) (x – 5) = (x) 2 –(5) 2
= x2 – 25

2. Find the product of (3x + 4) (3x – 4)

Solution:
Let a = 3x and b = 4
Using the special product of the form a2 – b2, we have:
(3x+4) (3x-4) = (3x) 2 – (4) 2
= 9x2 - 16
F. Guided Practice – WE DO IT
(Developing Mastery) ( TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE!)

-The teacher will provide activity sheet for the learner to practice the newly learned skill.
-Learners will be reminded to observe DOH protocols in doing the activity.
-They will be given (8) minutes to finish the activity with the given RUBRIC.
