Some of the key takeaways are that Nefesh B'Nefesh aims to make the Aliyah process easier and help facilitate integration into Israeli society. They also seek to educate Jews in the Diaspora about Israel's importance. In the past 15 years, they have helped over 50,000 Olim make Aliyah.

Some of the services provided by Nefesh B'Nefesh include providing guidance and resources for the Aliyah process, organizing Aliyah flights, providing financial assistance, advocating to the Israeli government on behalf of Olim, and offering employment services.

Some of the benefits Olim can receive after making Aliyah include annual stipends for families and singles for the first few years, health insurance through Kupat Holim, national insurance through Bituach Leumi, and other rights like the Law of Return.

Welcome

In 2002 we asked ourselves (and others), why are so few North

Americans making Aliyah? What is holding people back? How can Aliyah
be done differently? Can the process be improved? And if it can, will
Aliyah increase? Will answering these questions encourage more people
to make the move? What would a wave of increased Aliyah look like?

15 YEARS AND 50,000 OLIM LATER, THE ANSWER IS CLEAR.

What is Aliyah?
The Hebrew word “aliyah” means ascent or rise, but for generations it has been used to
mean “to move to Israel”. Beginning in the 1880’s, groups started to organize with the goal of
building communities and the land. In 1948, the State of Israel opened her doors to the Jews
of the world and passed the Law of Return, Aliyah took on a formal/legal meaning, thereby,
“to make Aliyah” means to move to Israel and become an Israeli citizen.

Licensing for Medical ProfessionALS
Nefesh B’Nefesh has faced, head-on, the challenges health care professionals meet
when trying to transfer their license and career to Israel. NBN works tirelessly to enable
medical care professionals to receive their Israeli licenses quickly and efficiently.

A direct result of these efforts is the unique partnerships forged with the Israeli Medical
Association and the Israeli Ministry of Health and their Medical Professions Licensing
Department. They are available to discuss the medical licensing process and help build
a plan for Olim who want to move to Israel, to ensure a rapid transition to the Israeli
medical workforce.

In addition to its efforts to simplify the licensing procedure, Nefesh B’Nefesh is

continually lobbying for changes to be made to the legislation itself, regarding both
the recognition of licenses as well as the training requirements once an Oleh has
received recognition of his/her medical license. These efforts have resulted in several
unprecedented changes and adjustment geared towards simplifying the medical
licensing process.

To date, over 600 medical professionals have made Aliyah through Nefesh B’Nefesh,
representing a wide range of medical specialties. Most of these professionals are
employed in hospitals, HMOs and the private sector.
