Read the text carefully then do the activities.
On June 26, 1945 representatives of 50 states signed the United Nations Organization
Charter in San Francisco. The UNO is considered as the most important organization when
peace is menaced by wars and conflicts in the world.
The United Nations Organization can deal with the challenges of our time: the
obligations of the Security Council, peace missions and also finding solutions to global
problems such as poverty, the population explosion, the destruction of the environment
and the human rights situations. Despite all the problems it is facing, it can make a
decisive contribution to improve the lives of people all over the world.
The UNO is built upon some fundamental principles. First, all member states have
sovereign equality. Second, they must obey the charter. Third, countries must try to settle
their differences by peaceful means. Fourth, they must avoid using force or threatening to
use force. Fifth, the UNO may not interfere in the domestic affairs of countries and in
return, they should try to assist the United Nations.
