RE: SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Dear sir/madam,

My name is Whitney Cherotich, and I am writing this application letter because I would

like to apply for a scholarship in your organization with the interest of pursuing my passion for

pharmacy. I learned this scholarship program through my guidance and counseling teacher.

Being awarded the chance to study in my field at the University is an incredible opportunity for

me, and I intend to seize it wholeheartedly without reservation. I have consistently proven

through my previous studies that when presented with a chance, I will strive as hard as I can to

represent myself best and reward those who have granted me a chance to prove such.

Below is my background information, family financial position, the reason for choosing

the United States International University of Africa (USIU), and where I see myself after

graduation.

Personal Background and Family Financial Position.

At the age of nine, my parents got separated. I did not think much about how it had

affected me psychologically; I paid more attention to how much my life was changing overall. It

became one of the most challenging transitions for my brother, my mom, and me to go through

such a situation. My father was the breadwinner, he, therefore, catered for financial bills, and he

was the one providing the basic and essential needs, so after he left, it became a massive change

for us. Imagine every night going to bed, sitting at the kitchen table, crying because of the

difficulties we were encountering. We sometimes went to bed hungry. At that time, my brother

was six years old. At that time, we were going to school with no school fees, which made us be

sent back home. I remember that this induced a lot of stress to my mother due to financial

problems that made her have severe back pain that she could not have the energy to come out of

bed.

I, being the firstborn, had duties, I had to teach myself how to cook at such a young age,

wash my clothes, and since we had one pair of uniforms each one of us, I had to wash them

every day immediately after school so that they would be dry by morning the following day.

Frequently, we had a neighbor who would at times bring food to us because they knew

that sometimes we slept hungrily. It was a cruel reality that slapped on our young faces in that

we could no longer afford to sustain the lifestyle we were brought up with.

My mother required financial support for us to continue studying because it ceased for a

moment. She received some financial support from her sister, whereby my brother and I went to

stay with our aunt for five years while my mother was taken for treatment on loan and then went

to look for a job outside the country. Because of their love and sacrifice over the years, I have

devoted my time and energy to academic accomplishment, even though money has always been

a challenge.

My aunt lives in a rural area called Siakago, so we studied there along with her children. I

studied hard so that I would be able to achieve my dream career, and I was able to score 381

marks at my Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. Due to my scoring marks, I was chosen

to go to a big school called Moi Girls School in Nairobi. As a well-rounded student committed to

excellence, I wish to have the best possible chance for a bright future. High school experiences

and challenging classes have encouraged me to think on a higher level and prepared me for a

rigorous university. Sometimes, I would be sent home a couple of times due to my school fee

balance due to financial problems. Constantly my mother had to struggle to pay for it, and

luckily I was able to complete high school having a B+ but with a fee balance of Ksh 83,162.

This grade was achievable due to my hard work, resiliency, and determination.

Why I Chose USIU

When searching for a university to pursue my intended major, I was looking for an

institution that would help me better prepare for a life of helping people as a pharmacist. I chose

USIU Africa because I am determined to achieve stunning performance while studying here, and

in doing so, I am going to portray a good image of the institution in that it will be seen as a

premier organization of academic excellence with a global perspective. I carried on extensive

research into the University, your track record of achievement, and the support you provide for

your students. Therefore, everything pointed to this being a positive, supportive, and encouraging

place to learn and study.

From my research, it also became apparent that the University genuinely cares about the

progress and development of its students, and I want to spend my time in a positive environment

where I will be given every opportunity to succeed.

Many universities offer this program but having studied your program content closely; I

realized that USIU is the best. The depth of knowledge I will gain regarding the subject matter,

the level of expertise and knowledge the lecturers have, and the comprehensive communication

and interpersonal skills I will gain make it my number one choice.

Lastly, I will achieve my long-term career goals if I am accepted at the USIU University

as highly productive and to a standard that is respected by the industry where I will be working.

This University is the only place I want to study, and I assure you that I will be a positive role

model and someone supportive of other

students.

Where I See Myself After Graduation.

Although the future is uncertain, I want to be in a position where my work gets

recognition and praise from people and organizations through my services and continuous

learning. I have the vision to be a mentor to young youths, whereby I will have a foundation that

will help those in the same situation as I was and assist them by educating them so that they may

also make their dream careers and be of help to the society. I see myself as a pharmacist who is

so much more than just filling prescriptions but who ensures the accuracy and compatibility of

various drugs, guaranteeing no conflicts or allergic reactions. I see myself serving the

community in several ways, from providing flu shots to running treatment programs. I see myself

on the front line of defense in patients' safety, ensuring any treatments indeed do facilitate

wellness and not unintentional harm.

This scholarship represents an opportunity to entirely focus my attention on the main

objective of achieving the best I can. I am confident my commitment to be a well-rounded

student will improve my future by enhancing my leadership abilities and teaching me time

management skills. Your investment into my education would be an investment into the end of

the world. I am grateful to be considered for this scholarship opportunity, and should I be

selected, I will use it to advance my medical education. Thank you in advance for your

consideration.

Sincerely,

Whitney Cherotich
