GRADE-7
CARRYING OUT MEASUREMENT AND
CALCULATION
After this lesson, you are expected to:

• Identify object or component to be measured;

• Obtain accurate measurements for job; and
• Perform calculation needed to complete work tasks.
Arrange the scrambled letters to form a word.

• RIES STCANE • RESISTANCE

• RIE STOSR • RESISTOR
• WRIE WNUOD • WIRE WOUND
• EELCTRNOICS • ELECTRONICS
• COOMPNNTES • COMPONENTS
• COOLR COINDG • COLOR CODING
What is ELECTRONICS?
Electronics is a branch of technology that
deals with many applications. Audio electronics,
video electronics, digital, medical up to weapons
and banking are covered by the influence of
electronics.
Electronic Components:
Resistors are passive electrical component with the primary
function to limit the flow of electric current.

Capacitors are passive electrical components to store electric

energy

Inductors are a passive electronic component which is

capable of storing electrical energy in the
form of magnetic energy.
Semiconductors are used extensively in electronic circuits. As its name implies,
a semiconductor is a material that conducts current, but only partly.
The conductivity of a semiconductor is somewhere between that of an
insulator, which has almost no conductivity, and a conductor, which has
almost full conductivity.
Resistor is a discrete component that offers
opposition to the flow of current.
Resistor is a device with a known value of resistance.
Its main function is to reduce voltage and to limit
the flow of current in a circuit.
This resistance is the opposition against the flow of
electric current to certain conductor.
Resistor types:

Fixed Resistor
Variable Resistor
Fixed Resistors
• It is a single value of resistance, that remains the same
under thenormal condition.
The two common kinds of fixed resistors:
Film Resistor. The generic term “Film Resistor” consist of Metal Film, Carbon Film
and Metal Oxide Film resistor types, which are generally made by
depositing pure metals, such as nickel, or an oxide film, such as
tin-oxide, onto an insulating ceramic rod or substrate.

Wire-wound Resistor. A wirewound resistor is an electrical passive device that limits or

restricts current flow in a circuit. ...
The conductive wire can be made of varying alloys and thickness to
control the resistance value.
Wirewound resistors are typically used in high power and industrial
applications such as circuit breakers and fuses.
Variable Resistor
• Variable resistors are used when it is necessary to
change the amount of resistance in a circuit.
• It adjust signal levels, to divide voltages
There are two common variable resistors:

the Potentiometer (Rotary Type)

is generally has carbon resistive
element

the Rheostat (Slide Type)

is generally made of resistance wire
• One distinct feature of this resistance-giving component is
the way its value is determined.
• It uses a set of colors which follows a code for its
assumed resistance expressed in OHMS (Ω).
