Idea/Content
Ideas show completeness and clarity. The
content must be well developed; it is as well /20% written with supporting details. Organization The structure of the poem must be correct. The opening and closing must be consciously planned, and the stanzas should fall with /20% their central idea accordingly. Diction The word of choice must be catchy. The writer must have rhythm and flow of language, with strong literary devices that /20% express the intended message in an interesting, precise and natural way appropriate to its audience and purpose. Conventions Th writer must take the mechanics of writing, spelling proper capitalization, correct punctuation and stanza breaks into account. /20% Artistic Expression The poem must speak to emotions, and it must capture the feeling of the readers with its literary and/or figurative content. /20% SCORE /100% POEM WRITING CRITERIA FOR GRADE 8
