Determine the current magnitude of child labor which is worst example of (Industrial Ethical Issues) in the
Mica-Belt.
The objective of the research was threefold.
First, to determine the current magnitude and seriousness of child labor in India.
Second, to provide insight into the main companies involved in the mica supply chain (especially Dutch
companies) and the due diligence they have conducted on child labor.
Third, to look into pending initiatives to eliminate child labor and come up with recommendation

mica supply chain. For this report, the eight companies are: Akzo Nobel, Prysmian/Draka, Unilever, Royal
Philips, DSM, A.S. Watson Benelux, Ahold and HEMA. Table 1 shows that four companies had significantly
conducted due diligence (AkzoNobel, Unilever, DSM and Ahold), while for the other four companies
(Prysmian/Draka, Royal Philips, A.S. Watson Benelux and HEMA) there was no indication of any due diligence
conducted.
Look into the indicators due to which this violations of child labor & other human ethical right are carried
out. How it can be safeguard?
Makeup and other cosmetic products have become an inevitable part of our lives. Today, favorite cosmetic
products, such as highlighters, are used daily and are widely used because of their beauty and shine.
About 150 million children work worldwide. Child labor helps many poor families survive. About half of these
children do dangerous, dirty jobs that are damaging to their health. Terre des Hommes takes a stand against

or BBA as a start, then pressure beauty brands to be transparent about where they get their mica. Having a
supply chain linked to child labor is bad for business.
The mineral that adds a shimmer to beauty products such as blusher, eye shadow, lipstick and foundation, as
well as to the paints used by the car and construction industries. Some of the world’s biggest cosmetics
companies including L’Oréal and Estée Lauder, as well as suppliers such as Merck, source mica from India,
one of the top producing mica countries in the world.

The International Labor Organization defines child labor as work that:
 is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful to children; and interferes with
their schooling by:
 depriving them of the opportunity to attend school;
 obliging them to leave school prematurely; or
 requiring them to attempt to combine school attendance with excessively long and heavy work.

NGOs educate trade organization to reach out to business owners and educate them about the evils of child
labor. If necessary, NGOs like Save the Children perform regular raids at workplaces like farms and factories
where child labor is practiced, and free these children from the practices of bonded labor.
