I. Modified True or False. (2 pts each)

Write TRUE if the statement is correct and supply the correct answer if the statement is FALSE in the space
provided.

__11,13,15____________1. Given a set of numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 the next 3 terms would be 11, 13, 16.
__27,35,44__________2. Given a set of numbers 2, 5, 9, 14, 20 the next 3 terms would be 28, 36, 45.
_A=Pe^rt_____________3. The formula for finding the initial number of population in (P) is P= A ert
___35,881______4. With the exponential growth model A= 30,000e0.02t in the year of 1995, the population would become
A=47,581 in the year of 2017.
___TRUE___________5. The sentence “Are there numbers with the property that the sum of their squares equals the
square of the sum” is the same as “Are there numbers a and b with the property that a2 + b2 = (a + b)

II. A. Identification (3 pts each)

Identify what type of Mathematical statement.

1. How can you identify if the statement is Universal statement or Conditional statement? Give some example.
- If the statement is universal certain property is true for all elements of a set. EXAMPLE: All negative numbers
are lesser than zero. If the statement is conditional,if one thing is true then some other thing is also has to be true.

2. The statement “There is a positive integer that is less than or equal to every positive integer” is an example of
what mathematical statement? And why?
- Existential Universal Statement, existential because the first parts asserts the existence of something and
universal because the second part has certain property that is true for all objects of a given type.

3. The statement “There is a prime number that is even” is an example of what mathematical statement? And why?
- Existential statement because there is atleast one thing for which the property is true. There is a prime number that
is even. There is a smallest natural number. A universal conditional statement is a statement that is both universal
and conditional.

4. The statement “For all animals a, if a is a dog, then a is a mammal” is an example of what mathematical
statement? And why?
- Universal Conditional Statement because it contains of words "for all" and contains version of words" if-then".
The statement is both universal and conditional.

5. The statement “Every real number has an additive inverse” is an example of what mathematical statement? And
why?
- A universal existential statement is a statement that is universal because its first part says that a certain property
is true for all objects of a given type, and it is existential because its second part asserts the existence of
something.

B. FUNCTION AND RELATION

1. When can you say that the given set is a FUNCTION and has a RELATION
-In general, we can determine whether a relation is a function by looking at its inputs and outputs. If an
input has more than one output, the relation is not a function. If every input has exactly one output, then
the relation is a function.A relation is any set of ordered-pair numbers.A function is a relation in which no
two ordered pairs have the same first element.A function associates each element in its domain with one
and only one element in its range.

III. MEASURES OF DISPERSION

1. What is range?
-The range is the difference between the largest and smallest numbers. The midrange is the average of the
largest and smallest number.

2. Differentiate the Population standard deviation and Sample standard deviation

- Standard deviation measures the spread of a data distribution. It measures the typical distance between each data
point and the mean.If the data is being considered a population on its own, we divide by the number of data
points, NNN.If the data is a sample from a larger population, we divide by one fewer than the number of data
points in the sample, n-1n−1n, minus, 1.

3. State the 5 procedure for computing a Standard Deviation.

°Find the mean

°For each data point, find the square of it's distance to the mean

°Sum the values from step 2

°Divide by the number of data points

°Take the square root
