Lesson 1 Life 1400 Years Ago
Dear Muslim child close your eyes and imagine life 1400 years
ago in the desert of Arabia. Life at that time was very
different, without internet, phones, television, refrigerators, nor
cars, not even bicycles! The houses were made of materials found
in nature like mud, dry grass, water, and palm leaves.
If people needed to travel, they had to walk with their own feet or
ride an animal. They either grew their own food or bought food at
outdoor markets. There were no grocery stores stocked with
frozen foods, packaged breads nor chocolate treats.
Our Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam was born
during this time in the desert. In Makkah, a city in what we now call
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Lesson 4 Prophet Ibrahim alaihis salam
Dear Muslim child did you know Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu
'alayhi wa sallam was the great, great, great, great …grandchild
of Prophet Ibrahim alaihis salam?
Let us learn a little bit about the Prophet Muhammad’s sallallaahu
'alayhi wa sallam family connections.
Ibrahim alaihis salam was ordered by Allah to leave his wife Hajar
in the desert near two mountains, Safa and Marwa. He left her
alone with their baby son, Ishmael alaihis salam. It was a difficult
test for her. There were no stores or people around, but she
trusted Allah.
Without a food or a water source to nourish herself or her son
Ishmael alaihis salam. They quickly ran out of water and Ishmael
alaihis salam began to cry from thirst and hunger. Hajar ran to
Mount Safa climbing up in the hot sun looking for any sign of
travellers or a water source. She saw nothing so she ran to Mount
Marwa and climbed to the top looking desperately for any help.
She ran back and forth seven times each time desperately
hoping for help to feed her baby and herself.
Reflection prompt
Dear Muslim child how do you think Hajar felt running back and
forth looking for water?
11
Suddenly, from below Ismail’s feet a water spring began to gush.
Allah had gifted Hajar and Ishmael alaihis
salam water. This water well still runs today
with the blessed water of Zamzam. Zamzam
water is a blessing and mercy from Allah
not only for Hajar and Ismael but even for us.
Given the chance to drink Zamzam water dear
Muslim child, make dua’ and drink.
The new source of water brought people to
the area who settled, building houses forming a city. Hajar
and Ismael alaihis salam were no longer alone. Prophet Ibrahim
alaihis salam would come and
visit his family. When Ismael
grew up, Ibrahim alaihis salam
was ordered to build the Kaaba
with Ismael alaihis salam who
was also a Prophet. They build the Kaaba together and made
dua’ for people and their future children for generations to
worship Allah and visit His house the Kaaba.
Prophet Muhammad’s family remained in that same city until his
birth.
.
Reflection prompt

and opened the chest of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa
sallam.
The angel took out the heart of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi
wa sallam and washed it in Zamzam water, removing any
evil from the heart.
His heart was put back and Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa
sallam was left with a mark on his chest, where it had been
opened.
His playmates related the story to Halimah.

family. Just like you dear Muslim child may, go and visit your
family in other places.
On the way back to Makkah, his mother, Aminah became
sick and died. Hi s grandfather, Ab d u l -Muttalib cared for
Muhammad (SAWS) for two years, then he also died.

31
Muslims must love Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa
sallam. The best way to show our love for him is to follow
his way of life, which we call his sunnah. Allah sent
Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam to teach
us the best way to live. We learn from Prophet Muhammad
sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam how to worship Allah, obey our
parents, be honest and generous and many other good
manners including remembering Allah through out our day.
Remembering Allah is very important, it protects us
from evil, helps us be good and feel happy.

Lesson 14 Come to Salat. Come to Success.
One day the Angel Jibreel came to Muhammad sallallaahu
‘alayhi wa sallam in the form of a man. The angel showed
Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam how to perform wudu’.
Then the angel showed the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa
sallam all the positions of salat and what should be said in each
movement. Imagine, dear Muslim child, your prayer is the done
in the same way Jibreel showed Prophet Muhammad
sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam. Amazing! That is why it is very
important we learn the correct way to perform wudu’ and salat.
After all, dear Muslim child, angels can only obey Allah. The way
the Angel Jibreel taught Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi
wa sallam is the way Allah wants us to pray.

The Quraysh did not like it at all. They began to torture the
believers. The Quraysh insulted, beat, and dragged the believers
over hot sand or hot coals.
The believers remained firm in their belief. They did not give up
Islam to protect themselves from the harm of the Quraysh. They
knew Allah is Al-‘Azeez the Most Powerful. Whatever they
suffered in this life was temporary but life in Paradise or
Hellfire is forever.

Not long after the ban had been lifted the Prophet's Uncle Abu
Talib died. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam tried to
get Abu Talib before his death to say the Shahadah, but Abu
Talib refused to give up his religion.
Abu Talib died a disbeliever. He protected the Prophet
sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam so, he will be punished in the
shallow fire of Hell. The least punishment of all disbelievers.
Soon after the death of Abu Talib, Khadijah the beloved wife of
Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam also died.
She believed in the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam when
no one else did. She was the mother of six of his children.
