Topic-1 what are the major challenges in managing information systems?

Answer:

Information System Challenges

Global E-
Management Technologies business &
Collaboration

Organization

The major challenges in managing information system are mainly maintaining Organization,
Management, and Networked Enterprise, Information Technologies, e-Business Applications,
Development Processes, Management Challenges. As we know information system is all about
collecting, processing, distributing information to support decision making and control in an
organization. Also for supporting decision making, coordination, and control, information systems
may help managers and workers analyze problems, visualize critical subjects, and create new
products. Sustaining above the things are the challenges of information system. Here are some
details of challenges:

Managing Global E-business & Collaboration: Operating or leading the

transformation of existing business processes or the creation of new business activity and working
with others to get shared and clarify goals to accomplish the mission are the challenge here.

Managing Global Systems: Being agree with public user demand, introduce different
business processes, adjusting applications improvement, encourage public users, modifying
software releases are the challenges of managing system.

Ethical and Social Issues in Information System: Interruption of communication,

character defamation, addiction of game, liability issues, privacy, health & fitness and also
identifying several issues regarding the use of IT in business affects employment, individuality are
the problems.
Managing Projects: Planning the work, assessing risk, estimating resources, organizing the
work, acquiring human and material resources, assigning tasks, directing activities, controlling
project execution ,report progression and analyzing results are included in challenges.

Building Information Systems: There are many challenges in building information system.
And some of them like system analysis, systems Design, programming, testing, conversion,
production and maintenance, evaluation, training and transition.

Planning Design

Maintenance Implemetation

Improving Decision Making: Four stages in decision making challenge and those are
problem discovery, solution discovery, choosing solutions and testing solution. Intelligence, design,
choice, and implementation are the skill that is needed to improve decision making.

Managing Knowledge: The challenges here are like knowledge discovery, data mining,
neural networks, genetic algorithms, knowledge works, knowledge networks, storing knowledge
databases, expert systems, disseminating search engine, collaboration and applying on decision
support systems, enterprise applications
Promoting e-Business Systems: Here the problem is all about enterprise application
integration, transaction processing systems, enterprise collaboration systems and also the business
function of accounting, finance, human resource management, being consistent, data security,
facing competition, marketing, production and operating management.

Achieving Operational Excellence and Customer Relationship: Providing better

service, selling new products, reducing churn rate, developing CRM systems are the challenge in
this case.

Securing Information systems: The things of challenge in securing information systems is

to manage malicious software (viruses, worms, Trojan, horses, and spyware), hackers and computer
crime, spoofing and sniffing, denial service attacks, identity theft, click fraud, jamming, spamming
and internal threats.

Enterprise Resource Planning: Implementing the technological backbone of e-business,

an enterprise-wide transaction framework with links into sales order processing, inventory
management and control, lack of change management, conflicts with business strategy, production
and distribution planning and finance are the challenges here.

Supply Chain Management: Giving the right quality with the right quantity, creating a fast,
efficient and low cost network of business relationship and getting products from concept to
market and also unforeseen delays, fast changing markets. Doing all of these are some of like major
challenges in supply chain management.
E-commerce Systems: There are many challenges in e-commerce systems and some of them
are about access control and security, profiling and personalizing, search management, content and
catalog management, workflow management, web payment processes, electronic funds transfer,
securing electronic payments, order fulfillment, return/refund policy, updating regular trends.

Telecommunications, the Internet and Wireless Technology: Designing

network strategy, selecting wireless technology, Monitoring underground workflow, revising job
functions and production processes, deploying IP network, training employees, monitoring the
services, extending wireless LAN, developing Wi-Fi wireless network are those the challenges in
telecommunications, the internet and wireless technology.

Data Resource Management: Managing and collecting data is the big challenge and also,
data mining, data redundancy, lack of data integration, dependency of data, lack of data
standardization, poor security, lack of flexibility, database interrogation, database maintenance and
application development are included.

IT Infrastructure and Emerging Technologies: Major challenges include dealing with

data possession, computing platform and infrastructure change, management and governance,
making wise infrastructure investments, improper network and connectivity, lack of Ways to
improve data analytics and proper data storage architectures.

Computer System Management: Computer system is all about input, processing, output,
storage, and control and doing those things properly and ensuring these are the main challenges
here.

Above all are the details of challenges in information systems.

Topic-2: Explain the connection between the Firm, its IT Infrastructure and Business
Capabilities.

Answer: A firm is an organization where capital and labor primary production

factors, overall, enterprise services, supplier services and customer services are
provided by the group of people. It is a constant, official social structure that takes
assets from the environment and processes them to produce outputs. The firm
makes those inputs into the products or services that means bringing to an output.
And these services are directly related with IT services and Infrastructure. Both are
like each and opposite site of a coin. Both are interconnected for developing
business. Because the purpose of Infrastructure are also same as like the purpose of
the firm. IT Infrastructure supplies the foundation to serve customers, work with
vendors, and manage business processes. It defines the firm’s development and
shows the capabilities of the business.

The term infrastructure provides the formation to operate a physical facilities or

business operation. The services of a firm are direct function of its IT infrastructure.
Literally it supports the business and information system strategy of a firm. It’s a true
backbone of business. As we know whether we plan to be an entrepreneur, running a
business, a manager in a corporation or a business professional, information
technologies is going to be one of the major responsibilities. It is a fundamental
resource that must have to be properly managed to ensure the success or contribute
to the failure of a company’s strategic business initiatives. The IT Infrastructure
highlights the business value of a firm. It services by the hardware and software such
as computing platforms, telecommunications, application software, data
management, IT management, IT standards, IT educations, and IT research etc.
Information technologies are a fast changing but an imperative element in much
business strategy.

Thus the business capabilities are directly connected to its IT Infrastructure of the
firm or an organization.

Topic-3: Discuss Cloud Computing in terms of fueling open innovation.

Answer:
According to the author cloud computing is a style of computing in which software
and, in some cases, virtualized hardware resources are provided as a service over the
internet. This is now one of the most up to date advances in computing and software.
It’s a delivery of computing services including servers, storage database, networking,
software, and analytics, through the cloud to supply faster innovation or flexible
resources.

Innovation happens when a products or services or procedures is filtered to develop

the outcomes. And these results are evaluated in time, cost and performance. Also it
is result of research, development and investments with the focus of making value.
Cloud computing technologies are innovative by itself. As it moves from the
conventional Capital outflow mode with onsite server infrastructure to an
Operational Expenditure mode using a third-party cloud service provider with service
level agreements. Using the cloud in daily business helps businesses to simplify their
operations and function efficiently across companies. Further there are limitless
possibilities of cloud computing virtually, and industries that exploit its efficiency
understand to interact with the technology drives innovation all on its own.
According to syntax in the last 6 years cloud computing industries has expanded over
300% and there’s no sign to slow down. It is also authorizing IT to break free of this
negative sequence by permitting it to reinvent how services are distributed to the
industry or company. At the end the outcomes for the business at large is the ability
to operate in vitally different ways that can only be described as new flexible and
approachable to business desires. There are many examples of cloud computing that
fuels innovation such as linking data storage with engagement services, resource
allocation, interoperability, security, speed innovation, automating services in a
hybrid cloud environment, creating new markets, making business faster and etc.

Cloud computing users can usually come to an end the contract at any time and the
services are often managed by service level agreements with financial consequences
in the event the agreed upon service levels are not delivered. It is really expected
that someday or soon everybody is going to compute “in the cloud”.
