The key takeaways are that tropical rainforests have different layers and ecosystems that involve interactions between living and non-living things.

The 4 layers of a tropical rainforest are the emergent layer, canopy layer, understory layer, and forest floor layer.

The 5 interactions that occur in a tropical rainforest ecosystem are mutualism, commensalism, predation, competition, and cooperation.

Detailed Lesson Plan in Science (Grade 6)

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a) Explain the interactions among living things and non-living things in a tropical rainforest.
b) Illustrate how living things and non-living things interact in a tropical rainforest.
c) Show love and concern for the ecosystem.
II. Learning Content
Subject Matter:

 Interaction of living things and non-living things in a tropical rainforest

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

a. Prayer
Let us pray!
___________ will lead the prayer. A pupil will lead the prayer

b. Greetings
Good Morning/Afternoon Class! Good Morning/Afternoon Teacher!

c. Review
Do you still remember what is our last lesson? Yes teacher!

Okay, what is all about? It’s all about the Classification of

Animals

Okay very good!

(the student raising their hands)
What is he different of vertebrate and invertebrate?

Yes ____? (name of the student who want to recite) Vertebrate the animals who has a
backbone and while the invertebrate is the
animals who don’t have a backbone
Okay, verygood!
d. Motivation

I have a short video presentation here and let watch! Okay teacher
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vijLre760w

e. Presentation

So, what is your idea about the video?

I think it’s about Tropical rainforest

Okay nice idea!

d. Presenation
(the teacher will present the power point presentation, so
that they can start the discussion)

e. Discussion
So, let’s go back to the video presentation that you’ve
watched.

Yes! It is all about tropical rainforest.

So, when we say tropical rainforest it is a forest occurring

in tropical areas of heavy rainfall. It is abundant with
many species of wildlife and vegetation. (students will listen attentively)
And rainforest where the living things tend to react and
interact with one another as well as the non-living things
that surround them. These mechanisms translate into
ecosystem.

So, who can tell me what is ecosystem?

Raise your hand if you want to recite.

Okay nice idea!

(the students will raise their hands)
So, an ecosystem is composed of the interaction of the
biotic factors or the living things and the abiotic factors or
the non-living things.

Who can give me an example of biotic factors or the living

things which is live in the rainforest?
(if they didn’t know, the teacher will give the example and
discuss what is in the table all about) No teacher

Okay! Next is, there’s a table here which contains the

Components of Tropical rainforest.
(The teacher will show the table to the students)

Did you know that there’s a Layer of the rainforest?

Yes, there’s a 4 layer of rainforest
The first one is the:
Emergent – it composed of tall giant trees that are much (if the students have a question, they can
higher than the average canopy height. free to ask the teacher)
Next is
Canopy – it has tall slender trees from a dense platform of (students will listen attentively)
vegetation with 60 to 130 feet off the ground.
Understory – it has a dark and cool environment with very
high humidity and constant shade.
And the last one is:
Forest floor – it is in deep shade and plant life thin. Most
lives here include fungi, insects, worms, and moss.

Do you have any question about the 4 layers of rainforest?

Okay let’s move on to the Interactions in the rainforest

Ecosystem. It means, the rainforest is a very diverse
habitat that contains many different species of plants and
animals in close proximity to each other. In mutualism
examples, mammals, birds, reptiles and insects may
interact with plants and with each other to help with food,
reproduction or to protect against predators. None teacher.

So, there’s a 5 Interactions in the Rainforest Ecosystem,

the first one is:
1. Mutualism – a type of symbiotic interaction of two
organisms living together wherein both benefit from
association.
2. Commensalism – a kind of interaction of two species in
which one organism benefited nor harmed.
3. Predation – it is the consumption of one organism, plant
or animal by another.
4. Competition – It occurs when organisms compete for a
habitat or a resource such as food.
And the last one:
5. Cooperation – it is a type of interaction where
organisms cooperate with each other for their survival

e. Generalization
So, do you have any question about the topic?
(if they don’t have a question, the teacher will ask the
students)

Okay, if you don’t have a question, I am the one who can

ask you question.

Why did they say that the forest is the place where they
can reproduce and obtain their food?

Okay very good!

f. Application
Okay, for our activity let me show you a picture from my
power point presentation and you will raise your hand if
you want to recite.
None teacher!
Okay if I’ll show you the picture, tell me if it what
interaction is this, if it is a biotic or abiotic.

(The teacher will show the picture) Okay teacher.

IV. Evaluation.
The teacher will see the application part of the learning (The teacher let the students what is the
procedure. insights of the students about the
question)
V. Assignment
Okay for your assignment, find the page 177 on your
science book and photo copy the “what to do” only and
answer the following question and you will attach that on
your module. Okay teacher!

Copy teacher.
