At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

● Identify the singular and plural form of nouns;


● Value the importance of knowing how to form the plural nouns, and
● Write the plural forms of nouns.

Most nouns form their plural by adding –s or –


es. Other nouns form their plural irregularly.
Here are the rules in forming the plural of
nouns.

1. Most nouns form their plural by adding


–s. Ex. Nation – nations, dog- dogs, cat-
cats.

Simply add –es. Ex: gas – gasses, Glass

consonant, change y to I and add –es.
Ex: pony – ponies

6. For some nouns ending in o, add only –

7. For nouns ending in f or fe, change f or


fe too ve and add –es. Ex. Shelf – The picture shows the forms of the nouns.

8. There are a few common and highly


irregular plural. Ex: ox – oxen man –

– deer.

10. Some foreign nouns form their plural as in


the original language.

Ex: analysis – analyses

able to change the underlined singular nouns to
plural nouns, and edit any other part of the sentence
to make it correct.

Direction: In a ½ crosswise copy these nouns


and give the plural forms:

We should learn to form the plural of nouns so


that we can easily identify the number of nouns
you are trying to refer, whether it is only one or
two or more. 

The most common rule for forming plurals is to


add an 's' or 'es' to the end of the word.

We are going to add letter s, teacher. 

We just simply add –s, teacher.
