Cutting Instructions
1. Sort the 5” pre-cut squares - select (9) square and cut each into (4) 2-1/2” squares
for a total of (36) 2-1/2” A squares
2. Using the additional yardage that matches the pre-cut line - cut (3) 5” squares -
add these to the pre-cut stack for a total of (36) 5” B squares
3. Medium green: cut (5) 5” strips x WOF - sub-cut into (72) 2-1/2” x 5” C rectangles
4. Dark green: cut (2) 2-1/2” strips x WOF - sub-cut one into (2) 20” lengths and the
second into (1) 41-1/2” length cut (2) 2-1/4” bias strips from remaining dark green

Construction
1. Working with the A squares and half of the C rectangles - Join A and C as shown in
the diagram below. Create 36 of Unit 1.
Unit 1
2. Next, working with the B squares and the remaining C rectangles - Join B and C as
shown in the diagram below. Create 36 of Unit 2.
Unit 2
4. Arrange 9 blocks to create a quadrant of the tree skirt. Join blocks into rows, then
join rows. Repeat this process to make 4 quadrants.

5. Join 2 quadrants with 20-1/4” sashing strips. Press seams toward the sashing.
Repeat this process with the last 2 quadrants. Then join the two rows using the
remaining 41-1/2” sashing strips.
6. Layer tree skirt top, batting and backing. Quilt as desired. Trim outer edge, leaving
backing and batting 1/8” beyond the patchwork quilt tops outer edge.
7. Mark a 9” circle over the center of the tree skirt. Cut one dark green sashing in half
up to the marked circle, shown below as a broken line. Next, cut along the circle to
remove the center portion allowing for a Christmas tree stand.

8. Join (2) dark green bias strips to create bias binding. Stitch binding to the right side
of the circular cut out. Turn binding toward the back of the street skirt and secure the
folded edge by hand stitching in place. Trim ends even with tree skirt. These will be
covered with the second binding strip.
9. Join the (7) striped binding strips for straight of grain French fold binding. Leaving a
1” tail, apply binding from the center circle, down one sashing area, around the
perimeter of the tree skirt and Þnishing up the sashing area, returning to the center
circle. Trim binding 1” beyond Þnal edge. Set aside remaining binding strip. Hand Þnish
binding, folding the 1 inch tail toward the backing, then wrapping the binding length
toward the back of the tree skirt (as you would on a traditional quilt binding) and stitch
to secure the outer edge. See video for details on creating the Þnished “start and stop”
areas.
10. The remaining binding strip will be used for ties. Open the fold and turn cut edges
1/4” toward the fold. Press all edges the length of the strip. Stitch close to the folded
edge to create a Þnished edge. Cut (6) 12” lengths to be used as ties.
11. Position the ties evenly along tree skirt opening. Fold under 1/2” on one end of
each tie. Stitch the folded end in place - making sure to align them in pairs across the
opening. Tie each pair in a bow - trim tie ends with a diagonal cut.
12. Your Christmas Charm tree skirt is ready for the season.
The original tree skirt was made using (1) 5” charm pack, which makes a scrappy style.
It can also be made using yardage and will have a more “planned” appearance. I have
included the yardage requirements if you opt for this version.
