ACTIVITY 6: Comprehension Check 

Answer the following questions: 


1. How did our forebears transmit their literature? 
2.
 With the development of language, the very earliest transmission of literature was through
rock inscriptions and paintings using primitive dyes and pigments. Literature was also passed on
through oral teaching from generation to generation. Later on, durable medium for inscription
such as leaves, paper, etc. was discovered by our ancestors which made storage and
transmission of literature easier.

3. Is primitive literature still enjoyed by modern people like you? Why? 

The primitive literature still enjoyed by the modern people like us because in literature the
stories are there that can give us a moral of that story. Ever since I was small, stories have
been apart of my life. Reading books like ‘The Tales of Peter Rabbit’ and ‘The Very Hungry
Caterpillar’ before bed became a part of my natural order where I could escape into
another world. To say the least, not much has changed and on most nights, I love to read -
to find that escape away from reality.

4. How did changes in history affect and influence the themes and forms of our literature?

The changes in our history truly affects and influence the themes and forms of our literature. In
some reasons the improvement and inventing of new words did affect. these new words are
often or rather be, always heard in our surroundings.

ACTIVITY 7: Write! Write! 


Cebu is known for a host of tourists’ attractions. Choose one of these “natural”
attractions and write a  TANAGA, or a Filipino traditional poem equivalent to Japanese poem
’haiku’ but has 4 lines with 7 syllables,  and with AABB rhyme scheme. 

ACTIVITY 8: Text Reading 


Read the story One Day on the Road by Temistokles M. Adlawan then answer the questions
that follow. 

Questions: 
1. We follow the story through the point of view of Miguel, the elder tricycle driver. What do
you think is the  significance and effect of telling the story in the present tense? 
Because the present tense is often associated with short stories, thus the writer wanted
the story’s action and events more immediate. It allows the readers to convey a character’s
change as it happens
2. What is the consistent tone of the story, and how does it reflect Miguel’s attitude towards his
experience? 

The consistent tone used in the story was aggressive, Miguel was consitently felt like Sherwin’s
competing with him. He even decided to give up on picking passengers and making money just
to compete with Sherwin.

3. What are the basic street life scenes Miguel reveals as he goes about his day? Summarize
the scenes in three  to five sentences. 

The road was dusty that he even wore a Ray-Ban to protect his eyes. There were also a lot
of known faces on the streets. There are passengers who waits for a tricycle to give them
alift.

4. Miguel constantly talks to himself during the encounter about senselessness of racing
against Sherwin. What  are the factors that compel Miguel to try to race? 

5. In the last sentence, Miguel says that he lost the Ray-Ban which had barred his eyes from
seeing.” What does  this idea represent? Explain.
