General
2D-drawings are designed automatically, based on the 3D-model, corresponding to the
selected drawing type. The correlation between 3D-model and derivated drawing will remain.
The derivated drawings are managed. They can be updated after a model modification and
they can be deleted from the management menu. On modifying the name of the model- or
drawing DWG, the relation can be restored (register) or disconnected (cancel).
Document Manager
This function determines whether the derivated details (derivated drawings from the model)
still correspond to the model (state current), or whether the model has been modified, and
this modification has not yet affected the derivated detail (update necessary).
Funktion: _AstDocCheck
Button:
Course of dialogue:
• Call the function
• The following window pops up
Update:
Select detail in the input-window and press Update. The detail will be updated.
Delete:
Select detail in the input-window and press Delete. The detail will be deleted
irrevocably from the appropriate drawing.
State:
A detail can be checked manually whether being still up to date. It is necessary if
Advance is not able to make an automatic statement.
Finish:
Close the input-window and finish the function.
Help:
The online help for this function pops up.
The model object is deleted. Therefore the detail is blank and also
can be deleted.
The state of the drawing cannot be determined. This is the case for
the node details even directly after the derivation.
If you click with the right mouse button in the left window of the drawing manager, a context
menu will open. With this menu, the drawings can be sorted according to different properties
(title, scale, drawing style, process properties). In addition, drawings and details can be
displayed and deleted.

General
2D-drawings will be designed automatically following the 3D-model, corresponding to the
selected drawing type. The correlation between the 3D-model and the derivated drawings will
remain.
The drawing style of the various drawing types can be adjusted individually. The styles are
defined with their settings (parts to be displayed, view, dimension, label, presentation, etc.) in
Access-tables. The drawing types available in this toolbar are only a selection of possible
drawing styles. An overview of all available drawing styles is given in the chapter 4
Predefined Drawing Styles
The derivated drawings (details) can, if not done automatically, be dimensioned and labeled
subsequently with Advance-specific dimension functions (see chapter 6 Drawing Finishing).
The drawing derivation is licensed in two different Advance-modules. For the views the
module Basis is required, and for the single part and main part derivations the module
Drawing Derivation is required.
The following buttons present a selection of the various possibilities for the drawing
derivation. They differ in views, intersections and defaults.
Scale:
Scale of the derivated detail.
Title:
Label of the complete detail. Possible entries can be seen on page 9-4
z-Viewport:
For the drawing styles you can set whether the viewing depth should be limited to
the front or to the rear (Z-orientation of the UCS). The values for the limitation can
be entered in the dialogue-box.
Example: front: 500, rear: -500 will cut a slice of 1000 mm from the model.
xy-Viewport:
For the drawing styles you can set whether the complete model, selected elements
or only a clipping should be derivated. For a clipping the height (Y-orientation of the
UCS) and width (X-orientation of the UCS) can be defined. It will be done
automatically (values via default) by selection (definition by digitizing in the model)
or by fixed values entered in the dialogue-box (X-,Y-delta).
Label / Content:
Various settings for the content of the labels. They can be set differently for the
various structural part types. Only structural parts that will be presented can be
labeled.
In the following a listing of the entries already available and their meaning.
General:
These entries are available for all elements.
The entry #Height(5) means a text height of 5 mm on the drawing. #Newline creates a new
line.
The entry #Height(5) means a text height of 5 mm on the drawing. #Newline creates a new
line.
Holes:
Label / Type:
Style of the label that can be set. They can be set differently for the various
structural part types. The styles are defined in Access-tables. In the styles are
defined, e.g. the guide line, text direction, placing etc.
Possible settings:
A detailed description of the labels can be seen on page 14-1.
Drawing elements:
Check mark to switch off the different objects in the derivated drawings. These
check marks only effect drawing styles that contain the respective drawing
elements.
Height notations are presented in the drawing styles "Views", "Intersections" and
"Nodes". For isometric presentations no height notations can be inserted.
In the shop drawings height notations and line of welding symbols can be inserted
via the finishing (see chapter 6 Drawing Finishing).
Representation:
Check mark to switch off hidden lines and a shortened presentation. These check
marks only effect drawing styles that contain the respective presentation.
Clipping is used in the styles "Intersection" and in the drawing styles for main and
single parts.
In the management tool another path can be preset (drawing – general, path of the
detail drawings and prefix).
Prototype file:
Name of the prototype-drawing that is to be used for creating the derivated
drawings. Here, the AutoCAD-styles for dimension, line types etc. are defined.
• A message will pop up concerning the used prototype-drawing and the DWG
where the detail has been generated:
Use prototype-drawing
C:\Programme\GRAITEC\Advance\SUPPORT\DSCDETPROTO.DWG
-> C:\Programme\GRAITEC\Advance\Work\details\DET4.dwg
For the drawing derivation a prototype-drawing will be used. Here, dimension and text styles,
layer, etc. are defined. The prototype-drawing to be used can be adjusted individually. When
doing, it should be called and processed only with the mere AutoCAD (without Advance), if
possible.
Function: _AstM4CommProjectData

Course of Dialogue:
• Press the button

General
Preferences
The name of the block for the title block is: HYPERSTEELPAGEHEADER.
General
Advance-details are saved in DWGs. When giving a new name for the destination file, you
can also name a prototype-file you want to use, e.g. including dimensional style and the
drawing frame.
To do this, you can select from a list of prototype-files in the file-name dialogue for creating
the detail. You can set a standard prototype-file by default. It will appear automatically as the
file to be used.
You can define your own dimensional styles in existing or in new prototype-files.
The prototype-files offered in the list must be in the same directory that can be determined as
follows:
Starting point is the default value DETAIL-PROTOTYPEFILE. The path given here and/or file-
name determines the listed directory and the pre-selected prototype-file.
If only one path is given, the program will use DSCDETPROTO.DWG as default-file.
However, we recommend entering explicitly a file-name. In this case, there are two
possibilities:
This type is recommended only for the users with single working station who use for all
their projects the same type heading or frame. Otherwise the default value
C40_PrototypeDwg must be changed for each project.
If you want to use your own page frame with page header, you must proceed as follows:
To find out the place which can be used for the details the maximum extents of the block
HYPERSTEELPAGEHEADER is subtracted from the maximum extents of the block
HYPERSTEELPAGEFRAME.
Example:
The place above the title block should not be used for details, because additional
informations should be placed there. To achieve this, a point must be set in the right above
corner, which must be put in the block HYPERSTEELPAGEHEADER.

On the following pages you will find a listing of the drawing styles already defined in
Advance. For each style a double page is intended and composed in a specific structure.

This style serves only for the display of the category and has no further function. In this
category you can place your own styles in order to distinguish them from the other styles.
The name of the category can be renamed in the table DetBaseCategories. After restarting
Advance the new name will be available.
A toolbar compiled beforehand is available for your own drawing styles. Via the menu View /
Toolbars you can activate it via the menu group HyperDetailing (alternatively: right-hand
mouse-button in the menu, HyperDetailing, Own Drawing Styles).
To integrate your own drawing styles or drawing styles not available in the menu, click with
the right mouse-button on this toolbar and select “Adjust …”. Now you can process the
properties of each button by clicking the required button with the right or left mouse-button
(that depends on der AutoCAD version). The following window will open:
Hilfe:
Text that will be shown at the lower screen frame, if the mouse touches the button.
Macro:
Function calling the drawing style.
Now, only the category and the drawing style must be added.

These styles are specifically for the automatic drawing design (see chapter Fehler!
Verweisquelle konnte nicht gefunden werden. Fehler! Verweisquelle konnte nicht

pieces in the model or, concerning the single parts, at the main part is displayed, and
intersections are not queried but generated automatically.

General
For the general acceleration of the detailing, automatic detailing processes have been
introduced that, starting form a 3D-model, creates dimensioned and labeled 2D-drawings. An
automatic detailing process in Advance is called “process” and includes a number of sub-
processes:
• Selection of parts
• Sorting
• Used drawing styles
• Rules for the arrangement of details on the sheet
• Rules for the design of new sheets
The drawings are listed in the drawing management (see chapter 1 Document Management)
and can be displayed from there or respectively further processed. The styles entered in the
property-box will be considered in the processes. If no styles has been entered, an
appropriate style will be used automatically. This style is distinguished by the model role of
the element (e.g. column, girder) or the single / main part (e.g. single part plate, main part
beam). In the DRAWING STYLE MANAGEMENT only the styles, which are used in the processes,
can be modified. To create new processes or to modify the existing processes, you must
change directly in the database via Access or the management-tool.

To present all main parts as single parts in the single part processes, the default Positioning /
Main part number must be set on 0.
All details are maximum scaled up to 1:25 in case the detail does not fit to the drawing. The
basis scale is the one defined in the drawing style. This is 1:10 in the single and main part
styles. In the processes with A3- and A4-papersize the scaling starts with 1:1.

An input window with several register-cards pops up. They are roughly identical with those
for the insertion of a line of welding in the model (see chapter “Welding Patterns” section
“Weld Point”).
If the dashed line is not required, you must simply rename the two files dsc_d_wline.dwg and
dsc_d_wline_u.dwg in the directory IBSA\Advance\Support\Symbols (but do not delete
them!). The modification does only affect newly inserted lines of welding. Existing lines of
welding symbols remain unchanged.

If a height notation is defined with WCS (Z) in the model, it will be taken, otherwise the
absolute WCS height will be given.
By the Advance-Properties of the height notation the unit, format and the precision of the
number can be set. Thereby it is possible to set it to meters although the unit in the model is
set to millimeter.

When circular contour processings at beams and plates are concerned, no center point can
be found. If the circle central point is requested, you must enter 3P, and the diameter of the
circle will be digitized via 3 points.
To move a dimension chain generated automatically or subsequently, you must select this
dimension chain. Doing this, the grips at the base point of the texts, of the dimension
auxiliary lines and the dimensioned points will be activated.
At the base point of the text, each text can be moved individually.
Base point
At the base point of the dimension auxiliary lines, the position of the dimension chain can be
modified without moving the dimensioned points (which would happen with the AutoCAD-
command “Move”).
Base point
At the base point of the dimensional points, the point that is to be dimensioned can be moved
quite easily. The dimension will adjust automatically to the new length.

General
The drawing style management enables the adjustment of the styles for the drawing
derivation to your own requirement and external standards. In this way, the presentation of
the geometry, type and content of the label and the dimension can be modified.
The drawing style management is a comfortable surface to do this. At present, not all points
can be processed with this surface, but it is intended for later releases.
For this reason, the surface of the drawing style management as well as the underlying
tables will be described in the following.
All names, e.g. drawing styles, presentation-, label-, and dimension rules, are named with
abbreviations that are explained in the appendix on page 17-3 and in the text.
The views and cuts in a Advance-detail are called detail views. They present a model
clipping with the settling of:
• scale
• coordinate system
• presentation type of the model objects
• label of the model objects
• dimension
Note: All tables mentioned in this manual refer to the database AstorDetails.mdb, if not said
otherwise.

Drawing Styles:
Definition of the styles including the label and dimension.
Object Label:
Definition of the label content, label orientation and positioning strategy for the text.
Object Dimension:
Which points of an object are to be dimensioned in a dimension chain.
Under Name: you must enter the name of the new definition. “Copy of” and the name of the
basic style will always be given as standard. The basis style can be changed with the pull-
down fields Start with:. If possible, select a style close the one required.
For the composition of a new style already existing entries can be used.
General
In the drawing styles it will be differentiated first in various element types, e.g. column, girder
or view.
Note:
Here, the availabe definitions from the table
DetailStyle. If a style is not included in
DetailMasterTable , a category "-" will be
displayed.
Use:
Here, you can call your own designed styles, because usually they do not have their
own icons in the menu. Select drawing style and press Use. The drawing will then
be created and the drawing manager will be called (here, only the just created
drawing is displayed). Having quit the drawing manager the drawing style
management will appear again.
The styles can also be called manually via the keyboard. In the column Type the
drawing style is displayed. The two numbers, e.g.7 8, call this style with the
command _AstM4CommDetByStyle 7 8. The first number stands for the
BaseCategory (e.g. column, girder), the second number stands for the SubCategory
(table DetailMasterTable).
Before the usage of main part styles (girder, columns, main part, single part, special
structural parts) the model objects must be positioned, otherwise the drawing
derivation is not possible.
Apply:
If several settings have been modified, the modifications can be saved with Apply.
The drawing style management will not quit.
OK:
Saves the database and quits the input-window without further doing.
Cancel:
Quits the input-window without saving the modifications since the last import.
Help:
Calls the Advance-online-help.
Assigning the name take care that the entries are unambiguous.
Delete:
Select drawing style and press . After the safety request and confirmation the
marked style will be removed. If you press No in the safety request, the deleting will
be canceled.
Title
Position:
Defines the position of the title text. Possible is at present top center and bottom left.
Arrange Strategy:
A clearance between the views is given (always measured from the last object of the
detail view) to avoid that the individual views on the drawing are not too close to
each other. Available are now the defaults 10, 15, 20, 30 und 40 mm distance on the
drawing. They can be extended, as you like.
Change order:
Via the button and the order of the views can be influenced. But it does not
affect the drawing derivation and serves only the clear arrangement. The topmost
entry cannot be deleted, to be removed it must be moved downward.
Another influence on the orientation of the objects has the default „Standard position
of straight beams on the drawing“ in the category „Drawing – Presentation“ in the
management tool.

z- Viewport:
Defines the depth of the view to the front and the rear (Z-orientation of the UCS).
Example: front 500, rear 500 – cuts a slice of 1000 mm from the model.
xy- Viewport:
For a clipping, the height (Y-orientation of the UCS) and the width (X-orientation of
the UCS) of the viewport can be defined. It will be done automatically, entering fixed
values (x-, y-delta) or by digitized points in the model.
With the button New further definitions can be added, and with the button Edit
existing definitions can be modified.
Because beams, plates, special parts and bolts can be added the role „Not Visible“, this entry
must be set at top of this list.
If shop bolts exist in the model, the general entry “Bo – Al” must be added. Otherwise they
will not be presented.

Dimension definition:
You can select here only definitions that have been defined in advance in the
category object dimension.
View arrangement:
Position of the view concerning the front view. The front view must always be set on
automatically, because it is the reference of the other views.
General
An essential part of the automatic drawing design is the labeling of the model objects in detail
views. In table DetObjAnnotationStrategy strategies for the object label are defined. Among
others, definitions for text content, text orientation, the positioning on the drawing and the
guideline selection are here included.
MaxDistance:
This setting integrates labels of objects whose distance must not go beyond
MaxDistance Millimeter on the drawing.
Text direction:
The orientation of the text in the reference system. Allowed orientations are –90 to
90 degree. Text orientation 2 is intended for further developments.
Use for:
Defines for which objects in the model the definition applies. This setting has
influence on the selection of the label style in Label / Content after having called the
drawing styles. E.g. for bolts only label styles will be listed containing in this field the
entry Bolt or All objects.
Preview:
Here it is displayed how the text will look like on the drawing. If formatting has been
used, it will displayed only as text.
Zeichen ø µ ½ ± ¼
Abbr. 155 230 171 241 172
These abbreviations do only apply if the standard font is used. If via the formatting
#Font another font is used, the same abbreviations will result in other symbols,
because the table is defined with another type. This way, also other special symbols
can be used. Which symbols are possible can be quested via the Windows symbol
table (Start – Programs – Accessories – Symbol Table).
Text format:
#Height(<Height in mm>)
Textheight in mm on the drawing.
#Font(<name>)
Changes the font. You can use all *.shx in the font directory of AutoCAD and all
fonts in the font directory of Windows (C:\Winnt\Fonts). The text font for the details
can be adjusted globally by default (Text font for details), being set on txt.shx.
Alternatively, simplex.shx is recommended, because it is close to the standard font.
If you select this setting, the dimension style must also be adjusted in all prototype-
files, because it has no access to the defaults.
txt.shx simplex.shx
#Newline
Starts a new line. The data for the font must be entered again.
#End
Determines a text formatting set before.
Additional there exists the possibility to set a unit format in the labelling, e.g. inch. This format
is generated by 3 numbers, which are given in front of the variable, e.g. %[1,2,3]Length.

General
The object dimension defines the objects that are to be dimensioned in a dimension chain.
Each entry in this category stands for a diminesion chain on the drawing.
Label / Content
X-direction of the view
Y-direction of the view
X-axis of an object
Y-axis of an object
X-axis of a main element
Y-axis of a main element
X-axis of a bended beam
Y-axis of a bended beam
Example:
Note: The settings above are mentioned as abbreviation in the name of the dimension
definition. Examples:
Mp X - Extreme GTA stands for a dimension chain with the maximum dimensions of a main
part. It must be intersection-free with the total geometry (G), the dimension chain is
positioned above the detail (T) and all detected elements will be dimensioned in one single
dimension chain (A).
MP X – MP Bo LBS stands for a dimension chain with the bolts of the main part (Mp Bo). It
must not be intersection-free with the total geometry (L, that is dimension chain as close to
the dimensioned element as possible), the dimension chain is positioned beneath the detail
(B), and a dimension chain will be generated for each detected element (S).
Point type:
Defines the points of the selected model objects that will be dimensioned. E.g. all
holes can be selected. Furthermore, points can be used as reference. The following
example will illustrate the consequence:
If no holes, slotted holes or bolts are available in the main part, no dimension chain
will be generated. If the reference were not used here, a (unnecessary) dimension
chain with the maximum dimensions of the beams would have been generated.

General
In Advance functions can be assigned to the model objects. This is done either by applying
construction rules or interactively.
In the drawing derivation, these functions can be used to differentiate explicitly individual
groups of objects from other.
The function cover pate, end plate and butt plate will generate in a main part automatically a
front plate view from the inside. If no other elements, such as lug plates or ledgers, are
welded at this spot, no further cut will be offered from the program.
Available Functions
The user can extend the set of functions provided by Advance in table ModelRole in
AstorBase.mdb. The following functions are available:
GeometricRestrictions:
Restrictions of the position of the elements on the drawing (see also pages 9-16):
Number of items:
Number of the ObjQualifier-ModelRole-pairs that are considered
ObjQualifier1...x:
Reference to table DetObjQualifier.
ModelRole1...x:
Reference to table ModelRole.
General
To a certain degree the appearance of the drawings can be controlled with the defaults
without using tables or drawing styles. With the management tool this can be done quite
easily. In the following those defaults are listed the affect the drawing derivation.
Default Values
General Value
User key for your own data -
User text for you owne data -
Plate Value
Name of plate for the variable %Name BL %Thicknessx
%Lengthx%Width
Positioning Value
Main part number (0=MPSP, 1=MP) 1
In the following the principal table structure for the label styles can be seen. A blank picture
field indicates that this type does not exist, the user must generate it himself.
Text content
For labels with guiding line the text “Guid” is attached to the name of the object label, for the
orientation along the object “Object”.
Example:
The name of the plates can be adjusted by default (plate – name of plate). The variables
%Thickness for thickness, %Length for length and %Width for width are used.
