Reiki (霊気, /ˈreɪkiː/) is a Japanese form of alternative medicine called energy

healing emerged in Japan in the late 1800s.

" The word “Reiki” means “mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign.” It comes
from the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and ki” (life energy).

Some general knowledge:

. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an

unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If
one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel
stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Some controversy surrounds Reiki, because it is hard to prove its

effectiveness through scientific means. However, many people who receive
Reiki say it works, and its popularity is increasing.

BENEFIT:

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-
improvement that everyone can use.

According to practitioners, the healing effects are mediated by channeling the

universal energy known as qi. It is the life force energy that some believe
surrounds all of us.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and
around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and
spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation develop
emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

It is also said to induce deep relaxation, help people cope with difficulties,
relieve emotional stress, and improve overall wellbeing.

People who receive Reiki describe it as “intensely relaxing.”

According to the University of Minnesota, patients who have undergone a

Reiki session may say:
“I feel very refreshed and seem to be thinking more clearly.”

“I feel more relaxed than even after a massage.”

“My headache is gone.”

This may be because it helps them relax. Another reason, according to Cancer
Research U.K. could be that the therapist spends time with them and touches
them. This has a soothing effect on patients who may be overwhelmed by
invasive therapy, fear, and stress.

AFTEREFFECTS

Reiki is considered to be safe. But it may cause some side effects like the
following:

Discomfort during a session

During reiki, you lie down on a massage table in a dark or dim room. You have
to hold still as your practitioner stands over you. They might play soft music
in the background, but they won’t talk during the session.

For some people, this can feel uncomfortable or awkward. It could lead to
anxiety, panic attacks, or the inability to relax.

Drop in blood oxygen levels

A 2013 clinical trial Trusted Source examined how reiki affected pain in
children getting dental procedures.

Twenty children received real reiki therapy and 18 children received a fake
version performed by researchers who weren’t trained in reiki.

In the true reiki group, one child experienced low blood oxygen levels. But it’s
thought that this was a negative placebo effect. And similar side effects
haven’t been reported in other studies.
Increased tiredness

According to anecdotal reports, most people feel relaxed after a reiki session.

Others may feel unusually tired. Practitioners claim that this means your body
is healing.

Allegedly, tiredness might be accompanied by other side effects, like:

headache

stomachache

weakness

INCONCLUSION

Reiki is growing in popularity. It appears to induce feelings of wellbeing and

appears to entail little risk of harm.

As a result, Reiki is now available in some major hospitals. Some medical

providers, such as hospices, may offer it free of charge, delivered by
volunteers, as part of palliative care.

Reiki is not an alternative treatment for medical issues but an adjunctive

therapy that can help support healing and increase a feeling of well being.

It is always best to discuss any alternative therapies first with a medical

doctor
