What is a Tournament?
 Is a series of contests between a number of
competitors, who compete for an over-all prize.

 A league is a group of teams that play the
same sport or activity against each other.

The difference between a Tournament and
Leagues

Tournament is League is held over multiple weeks. Teams show


held in one (sometimes up every week, play a few matches in a short 2-3
two) day(s). hour timeframe, then go home.
What are the Factors to consider in
Designing a Tournament?
1. Objectives of the Tournament
✓Determine a winner quickly
✓Provide for maximum participation
✓Encourage social interaction
✓Determine a true champion
✓Emphasize the element of competition
✓Increase skills in a particular sport
✓Rank all entries according to ability
2. Characteristics of the Participants

requirements

ADVANTAGES of Single Elimination

✓ Tournament can be finished within a short period of time.

✓Less effort, time and money involved.

✓Very much applicable to combative sports.

✓Interesting to watch which team will survive.


DISADVANTAGES of Single Elimination

✓ The champion team MAY NOT be the best team.

✓Training effort and expenses is not commensurate with the


number of games played.

✓Not all teams play equal number of games.
