In this Articles tackles more about the ethics of a person based on their dualism as told.

Dualism of a human being is consisting of two main part the body or the physical thing of the

person and the soul which is the spirit per se, in some teachings specifically in Filipinos we

are considered with three parts or dimension the mind, body and soul or in Filipino loob, labas

at lalim. With this review it will fall on the dualism of the person and how it will affect the

ethics of the person.

Based on what I’ve read from these following articles online. On my perspective we

people are naturally born ethical we have both of our body and soul that influences our ethics,

beliefs, values etc. as a human beings. The body which is the physical aspect of the person

with his/her characteristics and appearance. And the soul in which the persons spiritual

orientation of the person. These were the common influences that affect or decisions and

actions by its rightfulness and wrongness.

The Kagandahang Loob is mostly impact the relationship of people between their inner

or outer aspect that can affect, likewise with Virgilio Enriquez statement that we have a

pakikipagkapwa ng kagandahang loob relationship with others meaning that we naturally passing

goodness to others. In us Filipinos we have a trait of justice and belongingness to others, since

we are Filipinos have these strong bond with our family, friends and loved ones. We are also

helpful whether will be able to get something in return or not. As our Labas being represented

by our physical bodies while our Loob interpreted as our souls, our souls are the ones that

mostly affects our ethics. In the view with St. Thomas Aquinas he also believed with the

person’s dualism between his/her soul or the distinction between material and spiritual. In

(Mercado 1994:19-40) he believes that “Loob as intellectual, volitional, emotional, and ethical

can have bodily expressions because the body reflects kalooban. Our usage with our Loob is

the main influencer of our thoughts, pasasapuso, conscience and many more. We as Filipinos

we have body, soul and spirit that affect our intellectuality, volitional aspect of us, emotions,
and strength vice versa. Though our Loob became the source of our intellect and feelings, this

includes or entireness or inner self of us but they will always be connected to us physically.

In this case we can fairly said that Human Beings are rational, we are the only creature

that can think critically with judgement, with our cognitive skills with usage of questioning,

analyzations, criticizing, synthesizing, evaluations and judgements. Human beings are also

independent, as a person we are needed to be independent based on our reasons, motives and

our reactions with the internal forces. We are also self-conscious or self-aware not just our

environment but also for themselves by which of their activities, bodies and mental health, a

person’s self-awareness is not just about themselves but also for oneself a person is aware of

him/herself as him/herself and this shows their self-consciousness. And lastly Human Beings

are Free, but not freely free we still have our ethical codes, values and standards on our daily

lives for us to be guided with the usage of our freedom. We humans are free to love. With this

implications only humans can be ethical based on being rational, autonomous, self-conscious

and free as we are.

As Filipinos we are trained to have a so called “kabutihang loob” or the goodness of us

inside as a human being, this can reflect the ethical background of us Filipinos and we are

known to be caring, hospitable and loving nationality around the globe. This was mostly

influenced by our culture that we are family oriented ethnicity and this gives us the

impression that we treat everyone like family and this shows our kabutihang loob to everyone.

As a young Filipino and for the younger generation that this culture will get passed through

generation to generation, our ethical stand as a Filipino is always be a legacy of us. As our

ethical values and Kabutihang Loob persist this will arise from us as a human beings. With our

own simple ways and became natural with our kabutihang loob, we can be anything and change

the unethical things that is happening today and for our future. As a Filipino youth we can

make our own choices based on our ethical standards with the right judgement and critical

thinking for every decisions that we make whether it is big or not.

After all we are free human beings, we are free to choose our path but with the right

guidance with our ethics not just only as a physical individual but also as a soul that has its

own spirit and the mind whom it chooses what is right or wrong based on our ethics.
