In compliance with DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2013 this Advisory is issued for the information of DepEd officials, personnel/staff, as well as the concerned public. (Visit www.deped.gov.ph.) 12TH PHILIPPINE LINGUISTICS CONGRESS The University of the Philippines (UP) Department of Linguistics will hold its 12th Philippine Linguistics Congress (PLC) from November 26 to 28, 2014 at the UP-Diliman, Quezon City. The Congress aims to focus on the most current advances in the study of Philippine languages, and on the application of linguistics theory to other disciplines in the Philippines, and to look into the contemporary comparative studies between the Philippine and foreign languages. The topics include but are not limited to the following: Theoretical Linguistics Phonetics and Phonology Morphology Syntax Dyschronic Linguistics Dialectology Typology Semantics/Pragmatics Lexicography Linguistics and Other Disciplines Anthropology (Ethnolinguistics, Folklore, Ethnomusicology) Education (Language Teaching, Language Learning, Methodology, Sign Language, Bilingualism, Multilingualism) Engineering and Mathematics (Machine Translation, Speech Synthesis, Corpus Analysis, Computational Linguistics) Language and Society /Identity Law and Governance (Forensic Linguistics, Language Policy) Literature, Arts and Communication (Discourse Analysis, Translation) Medical Science (Speech Pathology, Neurolinguistics) Psychology (Cognitive, Psycholinguistics) Philosophy of Language

The English and Filipino teachers and administrators from both public and private elementary schools are among the target participants. Abstracts may be in English or Filipino. The filled-out Participants Information Sheet (downloadable at the PLC website indicated below) must be submitted together with the abstract on or before June 2, 2014. The notification of acceptance is in August 2014. Participation of both public and private schools shall be subject to the no-disruption-ofclasses policy as stipulated in DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005 entitled Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith.
