Configuration of safety instructions

Configuration of safety instructions

Safety instructions indicate a personal health hazard. We distinguish
three different levels: Danger, warning and caution. All three safety in-
structions are marked with the same warning symbol. The designation
of the safety instruction is shown beside the symbol. The safety instruc-
tions used are described below.

Configuration of a safety instruction

A safety instruction may have the following components:
– Warning symbol and designation of the safety instruction (signal
word): Danger, warning or caution.
– Source and cause of the danger
– Consequences for the user due to non-observance of the safety in-
struction
– Required measures to be taken by the user to avoid possible conse-
quences
– A measure may cause an intermediate result.
– At the end of all measures, a final result may be caused.

Personal health hazard

DANGER
A »danger« indicates an imminent risk to life and limb.
Non-observance of this safety instruction when the described risk oc-
curs causes death or serious injuries.
Example: Electric shock due to high electric voltage.

WARNING
A »warning« indicates a possible risk to life and limb.
Non-observance of this safety instruction when the described risk oc-
curs may cause death or serious injuries.
Example: Risk of severe crushing of the body caused by heavy loads.

CAUTION
A »caution« indicates a personal health hazard.
Non-observance of this safety instruction when the described risk oc-
curs may cause slight to moderate injuries.
Example: Risk of minor crushing of the limbs caused by small loads.

Configuration of safety instructions

Risk of material damage

If there is no personal health hazard, but the CMM or components may
get damaged, this is pointed out by the following notice.

This symbol refers to possible damage to the CMM.

Non-observance of this safety instruction when the event occurs may
cause damage to the CMM or one of its components.
Example: Collision of the ram with a workpiece.

Basics about automation

Basics about automation

The Automation option (together with the CMM-OS option) permits the
use of CALYPSO in automation projects.
CALYPSO and FACS In an automation project, CALYPSO is controlled by external signals sent
to CALYPSO by a higher-order Flexible Automation and Control System
(FACS = Flexible Automation and Control System), for example.
In this way, CALYPSO can be integrated in an automated measuring
chain with infeed, measurement and evaluation systems.
AAI interface Control of CALYPSO by the FACS and feedback from CALYPSO to the
FACS take place via the AAI interface, which must be configured and
started for this purpose.
After the AAI interface is started, CALYPSO will be in the mode you set
previously: automatic mode or manual mode.
– In the manual mode, you can operate CALYPSO in the usual man-
ner. However, CALYPSO can be switched to automatic mode via the
AAI interface.
– As soon as CALYPSO is in automatic mode, CALYPSO can be exter-
nally controlled; control by the user is restricted.
Switching back to manual mode can take place both by means of a
FACS command and manually by you.

In order to use CALYPSO in an automation project, you must perform
the following steps on the AAI interface:
– ➤ configuring [⇨ 1-3],
– ➤ activating [⇨ 1-5] and
– ➤ starting [⇨ 1-6].

Manual and automatic modes

After the AAI interface is started, CALYPSO will be in the mode you set
previously: ➤ automatic mode or manual mode [⇨ 1-6].
– In the manual mode, you can operate CALYPSO in the usual manner.
If necessary, CALYPSO is switched to automatic mode via the AAI in-
terface.
– As soon as CALYPSO is in the automatic mode, CALYPSO is exter-
nally controlled. If necessary, CALYPSO is switched back to the man-
ual mode by a FACS command or manually.

Stopping the AAI interface

When you no longer need the AAI interface, you can ➤ deactivate and
stop [⇨ 1-8] it.
You can read the instructions on these topics in the following sections.

Configuring the AAI interface

You must configure the AAI interface before you start it for the first time
in order to ensure that it will function properly.
1 Select Extras " Settings " CMM and click the AAI bookmark.

Using the AAI interface

Starting the AAI interface

You must start the AAI interface before CALYPSO can be externally con-
trolled.
Conditions
– Prerequisite: The AAI interface is activated in the system setup, i.e.
the Start AAI connection check box is ticked. You start the AAI
interface by establishing the connection to the CMM.
1 Select Extras " Settings " CMM and click the Control bookmark.
2 Click Connect.
The Stop Light window is opened and the connection is established.
The AAI interface is started with the settings you made – CALYPSO is
now in automatic mode or manual mode, depending on the set
Mode after start.
CALYPSO will be able to receive external signals as soon as the AAI inter-
face has been started.

Manual mode and automatic mode

Behavior upon startup
If CALYPSO is appropriately configured in the system setup, the AAI in-
terface will also be started when the connection to the CMM is estab-
lished.

NOTE
The AAI interface can be started only together with the CMM connec-
tion.

Depending on the setting, CALYPSO will either remain in manual mode

as usual or will immediately switch to automatic mode.

Automatic mode
Automatic mode is used for external control of CALYPSO (by a FACS) via
the AAI interface. User control is very limited in automatic mode.
You can operate only the following windows in automatic mode:
– the Stop Light window
– the System Set Up
– the Default Printout
– the Custom Printout

1-6 61212-2801502 CALYPSO 2018

Using the AAI interface

All other windows cannot be used and are minimized when Calypso
switches to automatic mode.
Changing to manual CALYPSO changes from automatic mode to manual mode:
mode – when the FACS sends a corresponding command via the AAI inter-
face.
– when a new connection is established to the CMM (if Manual
mode is selected as the Mode after start in the System Set Up).
– if there is a problem with the connection via the AAI interface.
An error message will be issued.
– when you click the Switch to manual button in the System Set
Up (AAI page).
CALYPSO prompts you to enter a master password.
The change to manual mode reactivates the CALYPSO user interface for
the logged on user. The program window is restored to its original size.

Manual mode
In manual mode, CALYPSO can be operated without restriction, but can-
not be externally controlled (with one exception).
The only external command that is accepted is the command to switch
over to automatic mode.
Changing to automatic CALYPSO changes from manual mode to automatic mode:
mode – when the FACS sends a corresponding command via the AAI inter-
face.
– when a new connection is established to the CMM (if Automatic
mode is set as the Mode after start in the System Set Up).
When Calypso changes to automatic mode, open dialog boxes (if neces-
sary) and measurement plans will be closed.

NOTE
When CALYPSO changes to automatic mode, it closes the measurement
plans without saving them. This means that all changes made since the
measurement plans were last saved will be lost.

NOTE
If a measurement plan is currently in the CNC run, CALYPSO cannot
switch over from manual to automatic.
