7 Shutting Down
7.1 Normal Shut Down

7.1.1 Steam Turbine

Requirements:

The turbine is in normal mode of operation.

Turning gear device is in auto-mode.

(1) MC turbine control off

(2) MC setting of speed governor lower

(until reverse power appears)
MC time until 'prolonged reverse power'occurs check
MC generator circuit breaker OPEN check

Caution:

If the reverse power relay does not open the generator circuit breaker although the speed
controller output signal is lower than 5%, there are 2 possibilities.

a) According to display the power is lower than 0 MW, that means reverse power occurs. It
has to be checked, whether reverse power protection is in function (see instructions of
generator protection supplier).
While checking reverse power function take care that turbine is not ventilating. If necessary
reload turbine again up to 10 – 20%, until reverse power check can be carried out.

If during regular shut down the turbine cannot be brought to reverse

power, never open the generator breaker manually at positive power
until the main steam slide is closed! Otherwise an overspeed damage
would occur!

b) According to display the power is higher than 0 MW, that means reverse power doesn’t
occur, although it should according to contol valve signal. This indicates, that turbine control
valves are not fully closed or leaky. The emergency stop valve have to be closed!
If the reverse power relay again not actuated (short-time function), quickly close main stop
valves in live steam line and in bleed line to disconnect turbine from all steam feed
possibilities.

If the turbine is disconnected from all steam feed possibilities and

the generator breaker still not opens because of in the meantime
present reverse power signal, immediately open the generator breaker
manually to prevent damages due to ventilation!

(3) MC turbine ESV shut XV385931

(4) L main steam stop valve in live steam line shut

L main steam bypass valve shut

F Write down the coast-down time!

(5) L drain valve before ESV open

(6) L with speed < 90%: open drains:

drain turbine control valve casing open MAA10AA610
drain wheel chamber open MAA10AA630
drain turbine casing open MAA10AA645
drain bleed line open V-Z0241D

(7) MC with speed ≤ 4 min-1

turning gear unit on check 385 MT01.M01

The steam admission to turbine has been stopped.

Shut down evacuation and condensing system before shut down the
F sealing steam system!

7.1.2 Sealing Steam System

Requirements:

oil system in operation

turning gear unit in operation
steam turbine out of operation
evacuation system out of operation
condensing system out of operation

(1) MC sealing steam pressure control off

(2) MC sealing steam control valves close check PV 385254

PV 385255

(3) L stop valves in sealing steam lines close MAW10AA030

MAW20AA010
MAW30AA030
MAW40AA010

for a long shut down period:
(4) L drain/vent valves open MAW20AA620
MAW40AA620

The sealing steam system is out of order. The turning gear unit must be running until the turbine
is cooled down.

7.1.3 Oil System and Turning Gear Unit

Requirements:

condensing system and evacuation out of operation

sealing steam system out of operation
steam turbine out of operation

when turbine is cooled down:

(1) MC turning gear unit off 385 MT01.M01

(2) MC standstill of turbine rotor check SI 395910

(3) L close turbine drains:

drain turbine control valve casing shut MAA10AA610
drain wheel chamber shut MAA10AA630
drain turbine casing shut MAA10AA645
drain bleed line shut V-Z0241D

The drain valves of the turbine have to be kept close, to avoid that leak
F steam or vapour waste steam enters the turbine (danger of corrosion!).

The turbine rotor has stopped and the lube oil supply can be suspended. The drain valves of the
turbine remain closed until the restart of the turbine.

(4) LC oil purifier switch off 385-U001-P04

(5) MC oil tank heating off 385 U001.EH1

(6) MC main oil pump off 385-U001-P01

auxiliary oil pump off 385-U001-P02
emergency oil pump off 385-U001-P03

The lube oil system is shut down.

The cooling water flow to lube oil coolers and generator coolers can be suspended.
