I. Introduction

“Impacts of Oral Communication subject in the Language competency level of

selected Grade 12 students from Lemery Colleges”. We choose this topic because we
wanted to know if Oral Communication really helped students in boosting their
language competence. Oral Communication is one of the core subject of Grade 11
students. It allows students to express their emotions, ideas and feelings that builds
their self-esteem. Language Competence is the system of linguistic knowledge
possessed by native speakers of a Language. The significance of the research is to
find the current state of the students in terms of speaking with the help of Oral
Communication subject. Researchers chose 10 selected Grade 12 students from
Lemery Colleges as a respondents. Researchers selected those respondents based on
their experience and ability to answer certain questions that is related to the topic.

Our second statement of the problem is about the communication subjects in the
language competency level of students in Lemery Colleges. To answer this, we make a
questions, how does the subject affect the respondent and how they can apply those
effect on improving their language competency. The respondents answered that the
effect of the subject in their language competency is it improves the way they speaks
and it boost their confidence. They can also apply those effects by using it right and
orderly and practicing it everyday. Students need to communicate confident and
appropriate the classroom. They need to learn how to interact productively in class
discussion. There is low participation due to lack of motivation for not having the correct
didactic material to improve their Oral Communication, they are afraid to make mistake,
and did not interact spontaneously and the presence of the teacher. They need to
practice the mother tongue in the target language (Tuan and Maii, 2015).

Our third SOP is looking for the benefits of Oral Communication subjects to the
respondents. We found out that the subject help them to become a good communicator
and it boost their language competency by expressing their thought and ideas that lead
in improving their ability to speak. According to Anton Lucanus 2017, An individual
learns the basics of Oral Communication right at home. The school environment takes
this learning a notch higher by teaching the student how to interact with peers and
teachers alike. The quality of communication in student life will define professional
communication later in life.

For the fourth statement of the problem is about the challenges that the students
faced in the subject Oral Communication. Based on the respondents Oral
Communication help them to have a confidence on speaking fluently and they all
agreed that the said subject can also help them to boost their competency level. The

major academic Oral Communication difficulties encountered by the students are

speaking accurately, communicating ideas fluently, speaking with clear pronunciation
and communicating ideas ideas confidently( Table 2). Other aspects were not
considered difficult as perceived by the students.

In our given statement of the problem, choosen respondents gave us correct and
well explained answers we gathered information from the answers of our respondents
that can really help our research. Our expected answers as a researchers was given by
the respondents. We are glad that we chose reliable and knowledgeable respondent to
our topic, because they did not disappointed us in giving an enough and useful
answers. “Impacts of Oral Communication subject in the Language Competency level of
Grade 12 students in Lemery Colleges S.Y 2020-2021” Both of our variables based on
the findings of our research have relationship to each other. As stated by the
respondents gaining self-confidence, practicing and speaking lodly are some other ways
to boost the language competency level in the subject Oral Communication.

Therefore we conclude, Oral Communication subject help the students in
