General
In the case of liquid-cooled engines, the coolant must be prepared and regularly checked as
engine damage may occur otherwise due to
Corrosion
Cavitation
Freezing
Water quality
The coolant must be prepared with the proper water quality. Always should clear, clean water
conforming to the following analysis values be used:
1
* Share of carbonate hardness in the overall hardness min. 3°dGH.
For more information on the water quality please consult your local waterworks.
*2
Softened water is distilled water, pH-neutral condensate or water treated by ion exchangers.
*3
Water of a higher hardness is available in most cases in form of potable water (town water).
For safety reasons it is mandatory to carry out another water analysis after water treatment.
To avoid engine damage, the coolant should under no circumstances be prepared with
industrial waste wate, river water, sea water or brackish water.
For liquid-cooled DEUTZ compact engines the coolant is prepared by adding an antifreeze agent
with corrosion inhibitors on the basis of ethylene glycol.
Optimum results are achieved with the DEUTZ cooling system protective agent
This cooling system protective agent has been adjusted to the materials used in our engines and is
being continuously supervised. The agent is obtainable via the DEUTZ organization.
If for any important reasons, such as delivery restrictions abroad, the DEUTZ cooling system
protective agent is not available, alternative products may be used in exceptional cases. These
products are summarized in product groups and may be taken from enclosure 1.
It should be noted that products of the same product group may be mixed with each other. Products
of different product groups may not be mixed. Prior to changeover to a different product, the entire
cooling system must be thoroughly cleaned.
The cooling system protective agent must stay in the coolant during winter and summer, in order to
ensure adequate protection against corrosion, and must not fall below or exceed the following
concentration:
It is not allowed to use corrosion inhibiting oils as cooling system protective agents for
DEUTZ compact engines!
The cooling system must be regularly checked (see valid Operation Manual). In addition to
checking the water level and degree of contamination, it is also necessary to supervise the
concentration of cooling system protection by means of an antifreeze tester.
The entire cooling system must be cleaned and the coolant be renewed in the case of ingress
of lube oil or noticeable contamination due to corrosion residues or other suspended matter.
This applies in particular to the ingress of lube oil, as lube oils may attack the sealing materials
used in the engine.
See also Technical Circular 0199-99-1116.
Disposal
The coolant must not be drained into the sewage system. Proper disposal must be arranged in
compliance with statutory regulations and supplier’s specifications. For disposal of the DEUTZ
cooling system protective agent part No. 0101 1490 / 0101 6416 / 1221 1500 see enclosure 2.

The DEUTZ cooling system protective agent PN 0101 1490, 0101 6416 and/or 1221 1500 contains
monoethylene glycol. Any used coolant is to be recycled as waste. The waste owner is personally liable
for proper waste recycling (see KRW-/AbfG § 5 (Waste Act) “Basic Recycling Obligations”.
Used coolant is classified in the list of water-polluting materials as (WGK 0) “generally not water
polluting”.
In accordance with the classification as waste with waste code No. 070101 used coolants shall be
classed as of 01.01.1999 as waste subject to special supervision when recycled.
The provision of evidence concerning recycling of used coolants depends on the evidence regulation
(usually evidence of disposal, accompanying slip). Any existing national personal presentation
commitments shall be verified from case to case on a regional level.
Pure, non-diluted cooling system protective agents shall be disposed of in an appropriate, approved
incinerator plant. Please contact an authorized disposal company. Any dilution with water for disposal
purposes shall not be permissible.
The above information is based on our current knowledge. However, the user is not freed from
its own obligation of due care and diligence with regard to any potential effect resulting from
the use of this product.
The cooling system protective agent shall be exclusively used for the above application (use
in accordance with the intended purpose); any use exceeding that scope shall be considered
to be contrary to the intended purpose. We will not resume any responsibility for any damage
resulting therefrom. The risk involved shall be borne solely by the user.
The user shall be personally responsible for compliance with any applicable laws and
regulations.
