Chapter Three

Analysis of Managerial Activites

In an organization Human Resource is an important element. It is like an asset. Proper
allocation of a right person to a right place is necessary. Right person includes proper
skills, proper acknowledgement of the roles they will play, proper knowledge about their
duties. Managers are responsible for setting and achieving goal pf an organization.
They ensure that all the resources are properly allocated or not.
Success of a company depends on manager’s efficiency. In Orion group there are also
three different manager level:
1)Top level managers
2)Mid-level managers
3)first line managers

The effective & efficient activities and the delegation of the managers are important.
Each level of managers and their activities may be different but all activities are
necessary.

In the portion of this study, we will contrast our theoretical knowledge of management
with the management system of Orion group.
Activities of top level Managers
Top level managers are the individuals who are responsible for making organizations
wide decisions and establishing plans and goals that affect the entire organization. Top
managers in most organization have a great deal of managerial experience and have
moved up through the rank of management within the company or in another firm. An
exception to this is an top level manager who is an entrepreneur. Many top managers
possess an advance degree, but this degree is not mandatory.
Top level manager plays a significant role in the mobilization of the outside resources.
Top level managers are accountable t the shareholders and general people.
According to the hierarchy of Orion group top level management is consists of Board of
directors. It is the ultimate source of authority. It enhances their planning and
coordinating functions and their skill. The role of top level managers are as follows: -
a. Set the objectives and board policies of the group.
b. They prepare strategic plans and policies of the group.
c. They appointed the executives for the mid-level management.
d. They control and coordinate the activities of all the department.
e. They also responsible for maintaining and contacting with outside world.
f. They basically provide guidance & directions.
g. They are responsible towards shareholders and for the performance of the
organization.

 Skills
Managers need three critical skill in managing: technical, human, conceptual. Among
them conceptual skill is the most important for top level managers. Conceptual skill is
the ability of think and to conceptualize about abstract and complex situation. They also
need interpersonal skills.

 Contrasting the theory of Management Function

Top level managers use all the management functions. In Orion group the board of
directors set all the strategies and mission & vision. They take all the decisions &
planning. The Managing Director is assigned lead the employees & to design the
organization.
Activities of Mid-Level Managers

Managers between the lower level and top level of the organization as well as who
manage the work of first line managers are known as mid-level managers. Their
designation is such as regional manager, project manager, store manager & division
manager. Middle management is considered to be a senior management position, with
respective salaries and benefits. The main duty of middle management is to implement
the strategies of the company in most efficient way a middle manager is the link
between the higher management and the lower management. They include the work of
leading people and reporting it to the seniors. Moreover, a middle manager is the
channel of communication. This contributes to the better coordination of the
organization to make more united.

In Orion group, General managers, Deputy managers are the Mid-level managers. They
play a vital role in the company. These roles are as follows: -
a. Executing, interpreting and explaining the plan of the companies’
policies and directives of the top management to lower management.
b. They participate in recruitment &training of lower level management.
c. Coordinate the activities of the departments
d. They make plans for the sub units of the organization.
e. They send important reports and other data to top level management.
f. Evaluate and inspire junior managers for better performance.

 Skills
Mangers basically need three critical skill in managing: technical, human, conceptual.
Among them, interpersonal skill is the most important for the mid-level managers.it is
the ability to work well with the other people.
After interpersonal skill, a top, level manager need conceptual skill and technical skills.

 Contrasting the theory of Management Functions

Leadership is the most important competency that consists of many skills. As an

inherent leader, a middle manager has to possess sense making and persuading skills.
They must able to motivate, influence and guide their sub ordinates, demonstrate the
quality and level of work contribution necessary for the organization. Middle managers
have to take all the decisions instantly. Managers should have a clear vision of the
strategy implementation be creative in overcoming the possible difficulties.
Activities of First Line Managers

First line managers are the managers at lower level of management. They manage the work of
non-managerial employees. In orion group customer manager are first line manager. They are
concerned with the direction and controlling function of management. Their activities include: -
a. Responsible for the quality and the quantity of field level workers.
b. Responsible for the good relationship with workers.
c. Assigning jobs and tasks to various workers.
d. Supervising, guiding, instructing workers on day to day activities.
e. Communicate with workers about problems and provide suggestions and
recommendary as well as appeal it to higher level.
f. They provide training and motivation to the workers.
g. Prepare periodical report about the performance of the workers.
h. Ensure discipline in the organization.

 Skills
They need technical skill most. Technical skill means the skill with job specific
knowledge & needed to proficiently perform the work.

Grade wise employment

Chapter four
Conclusion
Managers represent the company to the outside world. They continuously perform the functions-
planning, decision making, organizing, leading and controlling. Their individual skills needed
for different level of management. These skills help the bank to reach their goal. Each manager
of different levels and department plays a vital role. Performance of Teletalk Bangladesh so far
is good and they almost have 5 million customers. But a little development in technical sites will
enrich their capability to satisfy their customers. It will ease their way.
