1. Objectives
This document covers the Short Circuit Study of Electrical Power System for “Main Electrical
Sub-Station, Citeureup PCC Improvement and Capacity Increase Project”.
Purpose of this study is to confirm that short circuit rating of main equipments (33kV Switchgear
and 6.6kV switchgear) are sufficient handling the maximum fault current in the system.
To determine the system faults at each bus, the ETAP (Electrical Transient Analyzer Program)
Software version 11.1.0 was utilized.

3. Calculation Metodology
½ Cycle is the network used to calculate momentary short-circuit current and protective device
duties at the ½ cycle after the fault. The momentary short-circuit current at the ½ cycle represents
the highest of maximum value of the fault current (before its AC and DC components decay
toward the steady-state value). Although, in reality, the highest or maximum fault current actually
occurs slightly before the ½ cycle, the ½ cycle network was used for this calculation.
The symmetrical rms value of momentary short-circuit current are determined using the following
formula:
V pre− fault
I nom ,rms ,sym =
3Z eq
where Zeq is the equivalent impedance at the faulted bus from the ½ cycle network.
4. Simulation Modelling
4.1 Assumption
• Incoming 33kV Switchgear is supplied by Existing Power Plant assumed short circuit
capacity is 1000MVAsc and X/R is 45.
• Power factor and efficiency of all motors are based on ETAP Library.
• Power factor, efficiency and others Transformer data are based on ETAP Library.
• No tap changing in 30MVA, 5000kVA, 2000kVA, 1600kVA and 1000kVA Power
Transformers
• The R and X of all cable are based on ETAP Library
• All cables are set at a minimum temperature 400C.

4.2 Study cases
The short circuit study are performed under the worst of following configuration
scenarios:
1. Normal Operation: 6.6kV Switchgear supplied by two 30MVA Transformers, both
Incoming CBs in “close” position and Bus Coupler in “open” position.
2. Emergency Operation: 6.6kV Switchgear supplied by only one 30MVA Transformer,
one Incoming CB in “close” position, one Incoming CB in “open” position and Bus
Coupler in “close” position.
